No, it isn't. Giro will never be the best preparation for the Tour. Pogacar is one of a kind but everything went perfectly this year.

But it isn't that impossible to do the double either (I mean if Dumoulin (no disrespect) was so close to do it..).
Surely Vingegaard can win the Giro at 85-90% and be at full strength in july.
No, it probably isn't "the best" but when you don't need to peak for the race to win it, it can be a nice way to prepare.

If they live under the same roof, then coordination is de rigueur -something akin to (I bet Jonas and family are already fitted out with Team Vingegaard matching sweats!)

Now that is what i am talking about, this is on how it's done people.

Thomas was clearly better than Dumoulin. The difference wasn't big because Froome was fading in the last week and Thomas is not an agressive rider (sky was pretty conservative as well).

But Dumoulin was peaking for the Giro and had a lot weaker team for both races. Vingegaard (and now obviously Pogacar for that matter) can win the Giro without peaking, thus being fresh enough and peak for the Tour. Especially with a very strong team, he can win the race fairly easy.

Yes, and despite that (and the weak team) he was second in the Tour.
Vingegaard can win the Giro without peaking and that's the main point. With one main peak in july I think he should be more than competitive in the Tour.
Unless you disagree on the latter.

Yup, Vingo is way ahead of everyone not named Pogacar. He should be able to win the Giro without reaching peak form. The question is if it's optimal Tour preparation for him (it worked for Pog but every case is different).

Yes he can, however he can't beat Pogacar after doing the Giro (unless Pogi doesn't have a normal preparation). Of course he can win the Giro with one leg against everyone not named Pogacar but I don't believe for a second he can beat Pogi in the Tour after doing the Giro. Just my opinion.

With the expected route and usually smart and calculated ride by Vingegaard (of course helped by a strong team) I believe that the Giro won't harm him a lot.
Unless Ayuso, for example, steps up and gives him some sort of trouble (not talking about beating him of course, just putting a fight).

Don't get fooled by what Pogacar did this year. We are probably talking about the best GT rider ever, he is not like other riders (and by "others" I mean GT legends like Froome or Contador).
Vingegaards chance of winning giro without compromising his tour chance depends on roglic and remcos participation in giro. If they are present then he needs to be at his best to beat them b/c we have seen in the tour this year there was only a 3 minute difference in gc b/n jonas & remco. So if he rides giro at 100% then he is cooked for the tour but if rogla & remco aren't there giro will be a training camp for him.

Untill 12 months ago Vingegaard was widely considered as the better GT rider. I don't think it's fair to shift the balance like that untill Pogacar beats healthy Vingegaard. Keep in mind he hasn't done so just yet, so in my book they are equal.

If Pogacar can do Giro-Tour without his Tour being harmed by the Giro, I see no reason Vingegaard can't as well.
As yaf said the Giro without Roglic or Evenepoel would be just a training camp for him.

I also think they are very similar.

@mou responds to the topic of an Vingo do the double

“Difference between Pogi Giro-Tour and potentially Vini Giro-Tour is that Pog has one more gear and team.
UAE can send such a team that Vini will never have Giro as a training camp as some say like Pog had.
Vini can win the Giro, but he will work hard for it if he is not at 100%”
