Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Yes according to HLN and Sporza: The program of Tadej Pogacar DOES NOT contain Tirreno-Adriatico. But instead, he would ride Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.

I find that little wired. Only have 2 races days before Catalunya. Plus MSM and Catalunya is only 1 day apart.

I see. Looks like TA was indeed removed from the article in Slovenian media. And there is a question mark there in regards to possible prep race for Giro. Catalunya is not yet listed. So i guess we got the basic idea, but for some more official and 100% accurate list, best to wait and see. If it even exists at this point.

So he will not get any help in that race
Majka is one of the best in the world at mountain support and is certainly more useful than Almida or Ajuso. I doubt Vine can help much though, probably a lot of pressure on Grosschrartner to hit a really good level.

Also my sources seem to have got some info slightly wrong in my earlier post, apparently he does do LBL and it's the main spring goal with Strade and Milano Sanremo. Looks like a stage race, yet to be decided between Tirreno and Cataluna, will be included also

According to the PCS this looks like it is then. Now lets see what other big names will announce. Then i guess we can judge on how easy or not some race could be. Considering the cyclists involved.

That's certainly true, but he also lost twice in a row against Vingegaard. And lost hard. I would think that with a perfect preparation they can go head-to-head, but the Giro isn't a perfect preparation.
I don’t think Pog’s focus spread should be interpreted as him not considering Vingegaard worthy of his full attention. But just because he respects Vingegaard it doesn’t mean he should focus on him entirely. Pog does his own thing (as does Vingegaard) which is going for everything and sometimes losing out.

I don't think so.
Because you think one of them will be on another level than Yates this year?

Or is there a scenario you imagine where a third and fourth "captain" will have a very different impact than what Yates had as second captain this year?

I'll write off Almeida immediately to do anything that matters. Maybe Ayuso can go in breakaways or do a stupid attack, but I don't think he'll be any closer to Vingegaard than in the Vuelta.

Against potential (weak) Giro opponents, Majka may be more useful than he was in the Tour.

I always watch this clip when I want to laugh as Wout destroyed Majka

Yes, but the TDF is the biggest race in the world. He went for it the past 2 years, and lost. Not riding it with the proper preparation this year, tells me he probably assumes he won't even be able to win anyway.

Ayuso will be one year older than in the Vuelta and if he has a problem free season, I'm sure he will be much better.

But yeah, it might not be feasible to have four GC riders and use them tactically well.

I know they previously announced it but I would be surprised now if they put him into Algarve.

Looks like they want him ultra fresh for MSR having seen how going deep in TA has hurt riders in the recent past.

Well Remco said up front he can't win the Tour in 2024. But nobody really believed that.
?? I truly and wholeheartedly beleive Remco cant win the 2024 Tour

If the Tour is such a lost cause for Pogacar vs Vingegaard as many here seem to suggest, it only makes sense for him to go to Italy and bag another GT win first and soften the blow of the inevitable Danish skeletor triumph.
The issue here is the Tour has been so enjoyable with Pog v Vinge over the last 2 years even if Jonas won. Pog is the only one imo that can take the Tpour to Vingegaard . If he is knackered from the Giro ..btw there are no easy Grand Tour wins...then the contest will not be as good
I guess our only hope is Roglic but cant see him taking on Vingegaard in the long high mountains... maybe Kuss will get yellow ? ha ha

Ayuso, Almedia and the rest including Remco are a step below...They maybe coming but they are not there yet

Its how I see it ...everyone riding for the podium in 2 GTs
