I don't think they can ride Cipressa under 9 minutes without a Pogacar's attack. The climbing record is 9:19
I think it's pretty possible if you bring the right team and you don't completely bungle the positioning at the start.

Someone should just do the W/kg estimate for that, assuming that's the W/kg the front rider needs to do in turns. Drafting is huge on the Cipressa and if you're in 3rd wheel you should be guaranteed to be doing over 1W/kg less than the guy in front.

But you don't break a climbing record of 30 years with just UAE domestiques pacing the whole climb. At least not by 20 seconds.

9 minutes Cipressa still sounds like they want it as a team rather than individually. They probably went about that pace between km 1 and 3 of the Cipressa last year and there were still 30 guys left.
And thats what multi million dollars do to a team when its led by 'gianeti & matxin.' How can u tell the world about what u gonna do prior to the most tactical and unpredictable race in the world🤔 Is it for other teams to block the roads that you are planning to do the damage? Last year matxin wanted to be a hero when he said they are planning to do cipressa under 9 mins and this year his son wellens spoke the same thing(unless he is bluffing coz i expect him to be a little bit smarter than his manager). Or is it visma in PN who told us they're gonna split the race 50 kms to go on the descent and ride away like a TTT and end the race on that stage? Its a crazy world pog has found himself

considering the depth of uae roster the team selection for msr is ridiculous and it makes me really mad because this is the only race in which pog truly needs a superteam to have a chance of winning, in all other races a good team is more than enough for him to have a chance. Laengen and novak are good riders but they can not make any difference by putting a strong pace in the capis, there you would probably need vermeersch and morgado in their place. Morgado is not good at positioning but he has a lot of power and in the capi the fight for positioning is not as extreme as on cipressa and poggio so he could get in front more easily. Also I have a strong feeling that narvaez will be a hirschi 2.0 : totally useless. First, because he's not in great shape (it apppears), second because from his interviews he seems to me like one of those riders that feel like captains and only race for their results even if they have no chance of doing anything significant. Pog needs a superteam to set up a full gas attack on cipressa to create a small group there and hope they relay, it's the only chance he's got considering how strong ganna and mvdp (and also Philipsen to a lesser degree) are gonna be

Narvaez is way more humble than Ulissi or Hirschi.

Never given the impression while at Ineos that he could be Hirschi 2.0 and not ride hard for his leader.

Will be a big asset though I do think his form looks questionable right now.

If I was thinking well out of the box I would try and position Narvaez in the break of the day confident that he would be the most valuable rider there and dare the other teams to work to bring it back before the critical phase of the race burning domestique early.

If still ahead he can be the bridge and work on flats in between the hills.
