Respect goes both ways and RDV has shown nothing but contempt (if not outright arrogance) towards the talented riders of the eras that followed him.

At this point he seemingly exists only to provide rage-bait opinions.. Not totally dissimilar to certain posters on this forum actually.
That is correct.

What was his bait now towards Pogacar?

Just a reminder; last time he reached the velodrome in Roubaix, he ended up as number 13.

(Okay, it was in 2016, and he was 17. A few things has happened since...)

50 years from now riders and fans will be certain they’ve evolved into the greatest athletes in history. Who among this crop will step up to defend it?

The problem is Vlaeminck is a legend because cycling was a national sport in his era. If he was racing in this era, MVP would smoke him with one leg. Him and his brother in cyclocross.
Cycling in the 60s/70s is like snooker in the 30s

It's like snooker in the 80s. /rant

What did RDV say that was so outrageous?
RDV and I are feeling sick, while it's balloons and party hats for the rest of you.
Does RDV have his own thread? We're looking into it.

Don't want to be mean to Davis. But he got a reality check when he faced Hendry. We have a different snooker before and after Hendry.

That would suggest Merckx is actually Hendry and not Fred Davis, as you first implied. I still think he's more of a Steve Davis myself, or perhaps a Ray Reardon with an improved set of teeth.

Unlike snooker in the 30s, road cycling and its biggest races already had a long history by the time of the late 60s. Merckx didn't invent the sport nor was he around when it happened. He also wasn't the first rider to win a lot of races.

I think Philipsen has benefitted twice from being MVDP's teammate at Roubaix.
Certainly. He also benefited greatly at M-SR, but wasn't that the point? Together they make a package that is difficult to beat at these races.

That said, I don't think he had much to do with him winning the race on either occasion
Also true, but MvdP is of course exceptional. Otherwise if you regularly have the fastest sprint at the end and can hang on competitors, you might impede chasing and improve the odds for your teammate. Didn't Philipsen do that with van Aert 2023 (who arguably only tried to secure 2nd)?

The troll is back!
Haha, these are the handful kind of people who say Pogacar isn’t better than Merckx already. The same people—nostalgia has taken over their brain—are incapable of looking forward, objectify common sense, have no idea what’s going on around them, and literally think the world stands still.

I’m sure the same guy believes the T-Ford is better than Bugatti Chiron too if asked, while simultaneously needing help to operate his phone half the week. Absolutely hilarious.

RDV is just a brash Flandrian. I wouldn't get all worked up about it, rather just enjoy the entertainment. Rest asured, if he were racing today he'd benefit from all the advancements and play the game like everyone else. He just comes from a different mentality, a way of life that's incompatibile with the milder tone (doubtless he would say hipocrisy) of today.

Wasn't this the same guy who started to cry when Pogacar crushed everyone by 3 minutes and lifted his bike over his head at the finish line? Poor guy, I hope he has stockpiled whatever meds he takes because he's gonna need them.
Yup. It is crazy to defend this guy, specially when half of the peloton was already mocked by RdV.

Incredible! UAE continues to show classic after classic, how s#itty they are without Pogacar. And there are 3 or 4 who want to lead some classics. I just say "Really?"
