He never does altitude training for the classics. He doesn't want to be fatigued after classics (mental fatigue). His schedule is heavy so he needs time to be at home.
Last year he didn't do it for the Giro?

It's impressive how strong he's been in hill classic like Liège, without altitude.
Everyone does altitude before Liège.

This uae tour is a problem in race day terms. Strade was hard. MSR mostly hard. RVV and P-R were absolutely nails. Esp P-R. He gave up E3 and GW. Would prefer to see him skip AG and FW or at least hope we’ll never hear of it again.

Some season he’ll have to try to bake in E3 and possibly oomloops and GW.

It seems to really boil down to how hard the tour is. All roads run through it.

God wiling, late career objectives would include missing 1 week tours, and anything else he hasn’t conquered.

I think he just should never try go for it all in one season.

He either has to sacrifice cobbles, a second GT or Ardennes in my opinion. I think even this season Ardennes could be a stretch, after Ronde + PR combo. Hope I am wrong.

It is commendable and amazing to try to target everything... but it is also a high risk of coming close and ending up with little. It only plays into the hands of others.

He shouldnt try go for everything in one year and in all my suggestions for a potential schedule, there is some sacrifice that he would have to do. Thats just because I believe it is the most sensible thing to do. Both to maximize his own chances in all the races he partakes in and so that he can also be able to do it for many more years. Adding as many wins as he possibly can.

If he completes the Ardennes treble this year to nail the unfinished business from 2023 I think he won’t go back to AGR and FW more than a couple of times in his career which will help his schedule management.

Pais Vasco is the only one week stage race difficult for him due to his schedule.

Not really.

Besides that, not every rider benefits from altitude.
If you’re talking about the week following a proper (over 2200 meters) altitude camp, it would be highly unusual to find riders who don’t get ANY benefits from altitude. Unless there’s something off with their erythropoiesis functioning, the hypoxia will increase HCT which is always going to give at least some boost. Perhaps the exception would be if a rider has a very high baseline HCT (like 49%) then they couldn’t race until HCT dropped back below 50?
