So according to a post race interview that leadout from Narvaez wasn't planned and Tadej's microphone wasn't working so he just went with it, implying he didn't want to go that early on the climb.

Right now, Pogi is like Neo at the end of The Matrix, after he's become fully self-actualized and is inside the matrix making a phone call to let everyone know the jig is up for the machines. Then he flies off into the ether.

I think there were different conditions. At the Pdb 3 riders beat Pantani record and Landa was near the same. With all due respect, Remco and Landa aren't as good as Pantani. Plus they almost did a MTT with Jorgenson and Jonas who just launched Pocagar.

Pantani record was nothing special, but Remco still did a top 20 performance of all time which isn’t normal.

1:11 ahead after 2km?!

That's a crazy pace and obviously not the best/ideal distribution of one's effort.
Let's remember that as cool it might to beat Riis' "record", the real priority still is/was to get Vingo off of your wheel and therefore gap him.

Narvaez' hammer was very useful in doing so, but approaching the first 2km like that is clearly not conductive to score a PB.
Though it wasn't a MTT and Pog isn't actually worried about anybody not named Vingo, so...

I think the heat took its toll but still an amazing performance.

This was a brutal stage. Matteo Jorgenson will agree with me

1996 was even quite tactical until Riis launched. Ofc it was also after a pan flat stage if I remember correctly.

If you've ridden a bike from the 90's you'll notice the difference, it's harder to move. Requires greater physical effort

The Riis and Indurain times (1.90) are insane with those bikes.

Almeida is one of those cyclists who in GT is always left with the "word could".

Instead Simon has 2 GT. Hesjedal defeated Purito, being Purito the favorite and being another cyclist who never won GT.

There are cyclists who because of the way they ride, have more accidents or lose more time. This year had bad luck, but I always say that when the bad luck is in several GTs is that that cyclist has a problem to win a GT and either he is not going to get it or as much he will win one suffering.
Ayuso could be another one. Instead Lipowitz is likely to win a GT before Ayuso.

Still. Even if he wins 8 stages, which should be the maximum this year he could achieve, it would still mean he'd have to win 4+6 or 5+3 or something similar. But it's not impossible, and that alone is really incredible.

I saw the race again: kudos to Narvaez. Overall he did a great stage, but that kind of final effort in a terrain not his own...was simply magnificent, because you expect the big guns doing well in their habitats, not outside. Same for Wout in the 2022.

Pogacar can attack so early that hilly specialists (Narvaez + Wellens) are enough to pace the bottom of the climb (and job is done).

That early hard leadout might not have been the original plan but that was the key to blowing Jonas up earlier and causing Pogi to gain more than 2 minutes on him. It ended up being much better.

Pogacar did around 6.6 W/Kg. Nothing crazy

Heat and they went very hard from the start of the stage.
