It has a huge amount of cumulative vertical metres but with the vast majority of the climbing being 1km efforts on cobbles it would be a race that potentially MVDP could still podium.

This is a course akin to what Glasgow was for Pogacar where he could compete and win a medal but very difficult to win.

MVDP might be able to top 10 in Rwanda but a podium is a fantasy.

More importantly, he is taking the opportunity of an unfavorable worlds course to race MTB worlds instead. Montreal next year might present another such opportunity.

Logical move with regards to the sort of palmares he is interesting in putting together.

If you're still referring to Rwanda, MVDP wouldn't be in the top 5 favourites whether or not Tadej was lining up to start.

Yes. However he has a small chance of winning without Teddy. Zero with him.
But I would like him to race just to show how better Pogacar is in his terrain. Despite the vast majority of this forum thinks he is the best classics rider, there are still some people who give the edge to MVP. Maybe more H2H in Pogacar's terrain will show them, there is really no comparison.

There are several riders who would beat him on such a course, so he has no ambitions or priority in his schedule for it. That would be true is Pogacar had never sat on a bike. Not sure what type of dead horse you are trying to flog here, but I look forward to your showing even-handedness and criticising Pogacar for being scared of Merlier and Philipsen when he fails to sign up for the Scheldeprijs next spring.

MVP is doing the right thing. I'm just questioning those who keep saying he is the best classics rider when he didn't race (or will not race) 2 monuments +1 WC.

How about Carapaz? He won difficult Tokyo race and now is preparing especially for this high altitude and climbing packed course. He could be a podium finisher and if things align well for him then who knows...

Various things can happen in a one day race like WC, which is harder to control due to limited team strength. Anyway, my main take is that top3 could be guys who climb very very well, like Carapaz or Vingo. Obviously Remco and Healy should be in contention as well.

He is taking it 100% seriously. Jonas is out due Denmark not participating on TT so on this route is really just between him and Remco and maybe Primoz/Vine. And i don't see really where Remco could be faster, there is zero flat.

Remco doesn’t need flat sections to be faster. In TDF 2024 (first ITT) and Dauphine Libere 2025 he was faster in the uphill sections.
