IMO this points to motor use. no reason to risk it on a less decisive stage, but when there's real time to gain it's worth the risk.
I agree. Motor doping is very risky so if it is used it will be used tactically in terms of say the Tour, the Giro etc. Remember Pogacar’s time trial when he overtook Roglic to win his first Tour with a quite frankly ridiculous effort on the TT? That’s the type of stage that motor doping would make sense, when everything is on the line. High risk high reward. Similar would be a big crucial mountain stage. I’m convinced UAE used it at certain races in the Spring classics. As well as enabling ludicrous long range attacks, and preternatural looking seated attacks on very steep inclines, motor doping also has a very nice side effect in that it allows the rider to pace their efforts and ensure they don’t get too tired within a race but also race to race. So the rider will stay fresher for longer as the season progresses. Of course it is certainly very risky. Even if certain mitigations are in place, say mid race bike changes, buying off officials, detection avoidance technology, even compromising of the entire governing body, one small overlooked thing or bit of bad luck could blow it all up. The human factor is at the same time the weakest link in the detection system, but also the weakest link for those doing the cheating. But if certain people have proved themselves previously to be willing to go to *extreme* lengths to gain biological advantages, why would we expect those same people (and others of a similar mindset) not to do so with mechanical engineering methods?

It is a fine argument, does not matter if Mauro was UAE in the year 0 or 2023.

The guy is despicable and embodies what is rotten in cycling. If you find it OK that he is in procycling still than you're just as much part of the problem.
And they clearly had to up the antes so to say, after losing two years in a row to Vinge. New juice, more of the old stuff, sophisticated motors(and using them more often) or all them together. The training explanation(10% rise in one winter!!) is worse bs than the marginal gains ever was.

After Pogacar's crash yesterday there is talk that he might have a reduced performance today. Traditionally, we have seen when a rider has a crash, that it can take a couple of days to get back to full capabilities.

My question is, even though he has suffered a crash, will his performance go down much or will the use of his motor offset any shortcomings from the crash. Or maybe they will increase the watt capabilities of the motor given the fact that he has bruising/road rash.

Teddy will borrow a bike from Marc Marquez:

I think that's why he was so relaxed yeasterday about the bruises, he knows it's not going to affect the watts at all. Today we will see the VR5S for the first time since Dauphine and be prepared for the first super alien performance of this Tour.
