Probably not, Cunego is the fastest sprinter while Fredrigo will be the most likely to attack and stay away on the flats.

Saxo just doesn't have the guts or the strength to do something like this.

Fugalsang maybe not as strong as they hoped, and minus Frank, I guess they don't feel that strong. And Cance last year seemd to be much stronger in the lead ups to the climbs.

Think the heat hurts the bigger guys like Cance more than others, maybe.

Perhaps they could have enhanced this stage - in its current form - if they'd done it after tomorrow's rest day. But then again, which contenders/DS would think they could gain time with a 70km flat after a HC.

They could have shortened the stage with 60km after the last col and 20 before, taking out the Peyresourd. A quick an dirty ~110k of nasty climbs.

Amazing that Hushovd is still in there - and was even on the attack earlier. Even if Petacchi ends up with the green jersey no one can accuse Hushovd of going down without a fight.

What, so you want one of the favorites to attack hard and survive alone for 60km of flat? Different situation.

Judging from the fact that they had their entire team sans Andy dropped on the first climb, I'd say it was the latter.
