Probably has some problem, on the Italian forum I've read that this year is 3 kgs heavier than last year and had a not ideal winter preparation due to a broken arm.

He was a guest of Raisport during stage 2 comment of Tour of the Alps but he said only that he decided to skip Flèche and Liege (Romandie wasn't on his schedule this year) because was fatigued after Roubaix and he'll return for Hammer Stavanger to start the Tour build up after a couple of weeks on Teide in May.

So finally we have the end of spring classics.
With no Sky wins, unfortunately. With big defeats.
What may happened? I hope, really hope, the answer is: everything is subordinate to GT wins.
But I'm not sure I'm right.....

Well with Poels it was predictable, after breaking his collarbone in PN it was always a race against time. These classics came to early.

I don't know what happened to Kwiatkowski though. Weak everywhere

Who is going the Giro with Froome? Ellisonde is a certainty. Puccio? De la Cruz?

From what they said in interviews early in the season Poels will be the B plan, Henao, De la Cruz, Deignan have all confirmed that they'll ride, with Ellisonde addition there are only two spots left, maybe Rosa and Kyrienka.

May be wrong, but I'd have thought Puccio would ride the Giro too, he was superb in the Vuelta last year.

EDIT: Just found this interview with Portal before the Tour of the Alps:

“We have Vasil Kiryienka, Christian Knees, David López, why not Tao Geoghegan Hart? The selection’s not finished yet. And the climbers too: Diego Rosa, Sergio Henao, Kenny Elissonde, Wout Poels…. Salvatore Puccio will be a key element, too.

“They have all been preparing for the Giro. It’s not going to be easy to select the seven around Froome.”

May be wrong, but I'd have thought Puccio would ride the Giro too, he was superb in the Vuelta last year.

I totally forgot Puccio, this spring was nowhere to be seen, he didn't even ride the cobbled classics where he's usually one of the key domestique for Sky.

Well also Poels in the Ardennes seemed to have a very bad shape, probably he hasn't fully recovered from his injury in Paris-Nice but i don't think he risks his spot.

I think Froome really needs Poels. Henao and Rosa are solid enough in a peloton of 20 riders, but Poels is the only one who can really reel in the big guns. I think wee Kenny is probably hitting top form too soon.

I wonder if that's planned though.

Sky always tend to have one standout climber hit peak in first 1-2 weeks of GT before fading and allowing others to take over last week.

It's safe to safe Poels will need at least week to get back into his form, Ellisonde may be crucial in that 1st week.

Yes Kenny will probably be the last guy with Froome for the first half of the race, before Poels rides into form and will probably be one of the strongest climbers by the final few stages.

Give it a year or two and they'll have the next multi-GC star winner in Bernal. But I don't think he'd suit the train style.

It's being reported only today that he's doing the TDF.

I read the Bernal thread just after posting that, i feel a bit stupid now Ok maybe not as stupid as someone sending Bernal to the tour but still. I jest ofc they should know better than me but a tour with a tricky route seems weird as a first GT for a 21 years old climber, even if it's Bernal. He might also be a bit overraced come july if we factor his age in.
