Re the CX, why would MvP want to ride in the same team as WvA to battle it out on CX? Cannot see that working at all.

Sky getting into CX wouldn’t surprise me. It’s really taken off in the UK recently, it lends itself very well to TV production and there is a huge gap for a company like Sky to come in and establish itself as a promoter in the UK. Do that, along with picking up foreign stars and they have a great wedge to get into the big scene in Europe.

It would sense to ultimately sign Pidcock as well then. I don't like Sky in the slightest, but them investing in cyclocross could be good for the sport. Even if it's only a marginable gain.

Particularly from a international media standpoint, if the Disney thing happens I could see cross heading to ESPN as well.

Isn’t CX more akin to F1 where you basically have your own race team and compete with each other? I have very little interest in it to be honest (and no interest in F1 just in case my understanding of that is way off! ).

Yes and no. The team element is not as strong as in road cycling but it would definitely be strange for your only rival be a teammate.

The core problem with CX as a mass spectator sport outside its heartland is its predictability. The strongest almost always wins, there’s little tactical element, the strongest in any given period is usually going to be the same guy. I think it will continue to grow in popularity as a fun thing to do and a fun day out drinking, but there’s a limit to how big it will get.

Another issue I see with this is Disney/Comcast might see it as cheap content for whatever sports streaming service they run, but do they want to put the money into a team?

I wouldn’t read much into them coming in way down. They might or might not be injured but either way they had no reason to do more than roll home after their falls.

Kwiat has posted on twitter that he is ok. Will be interesting to see about Moscon, both of them fell pretty hard.

Bernal losing time means his job is now set, mark Movistar attacks and work to bring them back once Kwiat and Moscon are gone. Froome will be hoping he has the legs.

Sky will hope that Kwiatkowski has the climbing legs of last years Tour, with Moscon showing the form he did in the Vuelta, if they do it will take the pressure off Bernal. Poels will come good by the end of the week as he usually does.

Bernal will now unleash his inner Mikel Nieve and will be the guy that takes the charge after Kwiat/Moscon are gone with the task of staying close to the front even after his duties are over to be at help if Froome has problems and Poels for somewhat reason is not there anymore.

Poels has been keeping a low profile and usually shows up when he has to. I think this year it's more about Froome's legs as there will always be a few of the Sky climbers in good form and also whether Thomas can remain consistent for three weeks.

I doubt Bernal will get through more than 14 or 15 stages before being withdrawn.

Not worried about Poels, he'll be a top10 climber in the third week unless he's really out of shape.
With Bernal not 100% Sky could be a little thin on the climbing side though. I'm not sure they can ask GT to work for Froome if he's still that close to the yellow jersey. Movistar looks probably a bit stronger on paper, which I guess is good for the race.

A beautiful and brave ride by the boys into
a strong headwind that frightened most of
the pretenders. Lots of racing still to come
but a good sign that Mr. Kerrison has done
another excellent job once again this year.
