Latest rumors in medical circles are that Sky is using a next gen EPO pill. This pill is still in early testing (phase 2 of in total 4 test phases before it can enter the market, if at all). This pill differs from previous EPO variants, as it does not increase hematocrit with unnatural substances, which means it is pretty much untracable. In essence, it increases hematorit due to manipulating gen transcription, distorting that so that the body artificially produces more natural EPO than normal.

Thought I might share, although it should be kept in mind that this is hearsay from a Belgian forum.

interesting.
this would be untraceable for both blood- and urinetests, correct?
i wanted to ask if UCI are storing Sky's samples for potential re-testing, but that then becomes a moot point.

Apparently yes. The only thing that can proxy-detect this is the blood passport (as hematocrit levels will rise which is of course testable in itself) but there is a workaround for that: simply tell everyone that you're training at altitude and possibly only use the pills after altitude training, simply to maintain the higher hematocrit that the body produces when at altitude.

For the record, it is a product similar to this in working: http://pharmalicensing.com/public/o...-of-erythropoietin-levels-in-anaemic-patients

So sad, so ludicrous.

SAME OLD SH*T

Watching the latest performances by SKY reminds me of the reason behind the first post for this thread. One year ago, 14,000 replies ago.

Hope they're caught soon.

Rogers and Porte both have GT top 10 finishes pre-Sky. ;)

Rogers worked with Ferrari and out of Freiberg University. He claimed last year to be putting out more power than at any time in his esteemed career of slipping through the net.

At the 2010 Giro Porte was a top 20 climber at best. He lost 3+ minutes to the heads of state on every mountain stage. Two summers later he was dropping those same riders riding tempo, and was a top 8 climber at the Tour. Looking good this year too.

Looks like we have two new additions to Sky's "WTF?" list in Dario Cataldo and David Lopez.

Genuine question:

Does anyone know about Sky 'scouting' system. The only defense they have (don't laugh this is a serious question) is they can see something in previously unheralded riders like Porte, Cataldo, Froome etc (Wiggins to an extent) that others don't

Less genuine:

Is Harman on Eurosport joking or incredibly stupid, when he hails the 'great tactics' of Sky in, er, putting four guys on the front and killing everyone, like no one ever thought of it , or we haven't seen it before somewhere recently

watch eurosports coverage of last years dauphine on the joux plane stage.

the sky = US postal = brilliant tactics, comparison must be made at least 15 times during the ascent by harmon and his side kick (who isn't kelly on that day)

Not totally unheralded: of those only Froome might have had difficulty getting a contract elsewhere. Porte was, well, heralded after his Giro top ten (5?) although that was partly down to luck.

Hence the wink.

And Lopez is finally delivering on his 2007 promise. ;)

kelly is certainly aware of what is happening, he must be other wise he is as dumb as a rock.

harmon has admitted to have been "aware" of the armstrong situation during his years but couldn't say anything so i wouldn't be surprised if the same thing was happening right now. ofc i would also not be surprised if he was just BSing pretending to be a cool guy with "secret inside information"

We know Brailsford is a big fan of CQRanking. Maybe he's picked Lopez, Kiryenka and Cataldo in his team for Hugo Koblet's CQRanking game and looking to make a big profit on those three, Porte also. ;) Maybe even a 3000pt season for Froomey...

No, I am serious. I remember him riding well in Paris-Nice and D-Tour that year. Strange how that was pretty much his peak in terms of results

probably the same as yours, but for the moment i enjoy watching them beat guys i don't particularly luke (one especially). ;-)

i will also watch in amusement when the whole thing blows up eventually though.

Fair enough.

I actually do like some of the Sky riders, but it's the way the team (s) are riding everyone off their wheels, in 2 separated races, that, well, is looking very suspicious, for anyone who has followed the sport longer than from last summer...

He dropped Contador and Evans. Impressive. Dropping Giro, Vuelta and Tour champions.

With 7km to go they had 4 Skyborgs and they had dropped everyone else bar Contador, Nibili, Horner. That's impressive show of power. I honestly can't remember if I've ever seen that before. Ever. One team 4 riders and only a handful of team leaders from other teams.

Postal couldn't even do that!

Has anybody spotted Rogers today? Remembering last year I would expect to see him shepherding Contador all the way uphill and finishing with, say, Uran, his ex-teammate.
What's going on with him? Lack of motivation? Lazyness?

Btw, somebody has mentioned earlier Giro 2010 and that stage where Porte got maglia rosa. Look at the general classification after the stage - a familiar name in a group of esteemed climbers :D

114 Andre Greipel (Ger) Team HTC - Columbia 1:36:25
121 Tyler Farrar (USA) Garmin - Transitions 1:38:02
125 Lucas Sebastian Haedo (Arg) Team Saxo Bank 1:40:31
130 Gilberto Simoni (Ita) Lampre-Farnese Vini 1:42:24
131 Robert McEwen (Aus) Team Katusha 1:43:02
135 Pablo Lastras Garcia (Spa) Caisse d'Epargne 1:45:26
137 Christopher Froome (GBr) Sky Professional Cycling Team 1:46:57

Yeah, it was just ridiculous.

Horner has seen it all in 16 years as a pro, but Sky’s ride still impressed him

“Sky blew the field apart. Froome was very patient when Contador was attacking; he stayed with his teammates. They were very strong. With 1K to go, Contador, Nibali and [Mauro] Santambrogio were gone, but Froome still stayed patient until finally they were insight. He just did one acceleration, dropped me and went past the others,” Horner explained.

“They had one moment where they slowed down a bit, where we dropped a lot of power, but then Contador attacked and they picked it back up. It was intelligent racing from Sky. They have a lot of good guys and Froome was patient. Almost a carbon copy of the Tour.”

I agree.

The rest of the peloton is not stupid. Most of them know how to train, recover and eat well.

Like a lot of people on this forum, I have my doubts about Froome. I hope he's clean. I've followed pro cycling for the last 25 years and when something looks too good to be true it's usually been proven to be.

he owned Saunier Duval and the Mexican wagu beef thing

Johan Bruyneel also almost lost a leg from this chemical O2.
