Brailsford's statements always have the tone of a naive, clueless fan. They should probably get someone more clued up if they're going to hand him £30000000 or whatever to develop British cyclists.

So Alex has time to read the Interwebs and comment about this, but Brailsford doesn't have time to shoot a quick email out to the team saying, oh I dunno... STFU and let the mgt handle it?

David Millar's sister Fran is the PR officer.

Team Sky are the single most technologically advanced cycling team in the history of the universe [sic].

And yet... they can't get a message to their riders. Huh.

Maybe Brailsford is so far away from his team - not unlike the other team clean manager, JV - that he doesn't actually have a clue what's going on with any of them.

No doubt he will continue to "investigate thoroughly to get the facts" before continuing on doing what they've always done.

This Dowsett response is classic "Talanksy", but JV pulled him up on his attitude and made sure he laid low coz hero worship of Lance was currently a no-no. Let's see how Brailsford handles it. New generation are as good as the old generation - and these are the future "stars" of our pro peloton.

In fairness to Brailsford, he shouldn't have to remind them. Anyone involved in the sport with more than half a braincell should know that you should not be praising up Lance at this moment. They shouldn't need reminding not to speak positive of a man who cheated and bullied his way to the top. I think that their plan is to deflect using Wiggins as in most markets, the opinion of the Tour de France winner is going to be more newsworthy than that of a young domestique. That interview is strange in itself though. I have no idea why Wiggins was saying he never competed against Armstrong other than at the Tour in 2004 and at a criterium in 2009. He said it with anger in his voice too, like he was angry that people kept on getting it wrong. Bizarre.

Either Dowsett's brain finally caught up with his mouth or someone in the team brass gave a firm boot to his hole because he rowed back pretty strongly a few hours later.

Yeah my INternet connection is on the fritz, and I read the retraction after posting. A patently false retraction at that - as pointed out by The Hitch. "Legend of the sport" != "Legend due to his corrupt charity built on a lie".

LA is a singularity and it'd be great if he'd take the mess with him as he implodes, but I am guessing that ain't going to happen. These managers are keeping their teams outside the event horizon and .... damn I am sad for pro cycling. And the kids I know who went to Europe to get a pro gig. And came back coz they didn't want to take drugs.

Why should DB or anyone send anything to any of their riders to tell them to shut up?
Doing that would be omerta.

I can't believe that Brailsford is so shocked.

I am only an amateur who has watched Armstrongs bullying of Simeoni etc and I was convinced that he was a bullying cheat.

Brailsford, having been employed in cycling for so many years and to be this shocked shows an astronomical level of incompetence....................or something slightly more dubious.

If you're referring to the 5 live interview he didn't say he was shocked. He said they were shocking revelations.

I wasn't shocked.in the slightest, but still found the weight of evidence and riders shocking too.

As opposed to what? What Dowsett has said now? You think he said that of his own accord? Seriously? Are you that blind? And you think that's not omerta? To come out and retract and look like an idiot because he's saying he meant something completely different to what he said?

Like JV "talked to Talansky" and suddely his tweets disappear? That's not omerta? Seriously?

All that aside - I was responding to a very specific post, which is clearly not shown in your reply, where someone says you can't get a measured response from mgt by a rider at the Tour of Beijing. That's what I am replying to - the most technologically advanced team in the universe [sic] can't get their message straight, and Brailsford has no idea what his riders are up to or how they feel. But demands that we accept they are all clean.

I am sorry that yet again you miss the point entirely.

All these dopers have been obvious. Brad was adamant he would win the 4km Dauphine prologue in 2006 as he was World and Olympic champion @4km and hitting the same power numbers. 21st he came. 21st.

10% more power required to match Dave Zabriskie.

Hint: he's lying. 1000 days later he succumbed and started doping himself.

Background
Cavendish is jointly represented by an agency called Face Partnership and another one called Three60. Face was set up by James Pope and Fran Millar, the sister of British rider David Millar. Early on the company specialised in representing riders and took on Cavendish, amongst others. More recently Face shifted its focus to events management and several riders left the stable. For obvious reasons David Millar remains, as does Cavendish, although these days Face handles the communications side and Three60 has been brought in to handle the commercial activities, including contract negotiations. Face organised the big team launch for Team Sky and Fran Millar later joined Team Sky to run their PR effort with the job title of “Project Manager” but she remains on the board of Face.

While the length and thoroughness of the USADA inquiry was to me a big surprise that shouldn't have been, the biggest was Brailsford's and Yate's feigned innocent shock.

I ride for fun and follow the news, but can anyone in the industry, especially the top team at present, not have had a pretty good idea about what goes on? I mean, the in trade gossip and board room discussion must have been what doctors are succeeding and what the new science is..

What are you so angry about?
And what is your point - please articulate it.
Because you had one fact in your post (which was wrong) and the rest was banging on about how management should put out a unified approach.

You are complaining that they can't get their message straight - you can even get your argument straight.

Answer the question: is Alex Dowsett's subsequent retraction his, or has it been directed from above?

If it has been directed form above, is that omerta?

To answer your question (though you did not answer mine) - I do not know.

Do you know?

I don't actually care what he said - because he is wrong, and what he says is meaningless. It is not a sign of anything other than he is rather out of touch and lives in the Pro bubble.

Brailsford is different - he is in the know and is media savvy.

Rob Jorgensen is Skys PR.

PR officer = public relations officer. I'm going to assume you know what that means.

Marketing Communications (or MarCom or Integrated Marketing Communications) are messages and related media used to communicate with a market. Marketing communications is the "promotion" part of the "Marketing Mix" or the "four Ps": price, place, promotion, and product.

I know what a PRO is.
I did not know what a MarComms was - but now I know it is not a PRO.Thanks.

Fran is on the business end of things, not the public.
You can google all you wish - it does not change that.

If???

I asked a simple question - do you know?
If you do, then say so - otherwise I have no interested in your opinion.

Press/PR officers at the Giro were... Fran Millar and someone else.

Hint: that's public.

Equally plausible.

From above meaning from team management.

If Alex Dowsett's retraction has been directed by team management, is it a case of omerta?
