Everything on the pro's bikes has to be available for public purchase.
They get around it by claiming they are research / prototype items undergoing testing, I believe.

Or, like Sky in 2012, they make it so difficult and ridiculously expensive that you cannot afford or they do not make it possible to purchase - see the bikes used by Sky at the Olympic games.

Sky didn't compete at the Olympics fella ;)

Hmmm, all but name, all but name.

Even the GB kits have Sky on them!

I think, in reality, very few Sky riders are actually still involved with riding track though now. Even the management have moved on, but I do get what you guys mean :)

They are up on the pina web sight

Frame sets around £6000 "June"

Full bikes a bit later £10000000000.000000000.000000000 probably :D

Its about what the "regular" road frame set costs I think.

Pinarello are more expensive than the other top-end frames.

Doesn't matter much to me, any manufacturers top end frames are well out of my price range..

Really? I've never looked at most to be fair but I know an S-Works Tarmac is £2,800 as I saw one in a concept store and I thought even that was a bit pricey.

£6000 though?! You can get a custom made Cyfac for half that! I don't know if I'll ever be able to look at a Dogma with a straight face again...

Looks like I was wrong.

Pulled up a few sites and the frame for an Dogma F8 (bought in the US anyway) is a little under $6000 not 6000 pounds.

Stupid currencies.

It's still nearly £4000, which is basically your custom Cyfac and a nice set of Deep rim carbon wheels built up (Enve even if you want to throw money away!). Mental.

Its all crazy money to me.

My road bike cost me $50 second hand. Old steel beats with gear change on the down tube.

Does this middle aged fatty quite well enough.

I did spend some on my Tri-bike though (a new Cervelo P2)

All my bikes are steel, I won't ride anything else. 105, RS21's (will have some 32 spoke training wheels soonish) and an 853 frame/carbon fork for me, £1200 and it's paid for itself and a Lemond Fillmore in commuting cost reduction. I'd happily ride an old steel frame too, but the prices are going up these days. 160mm travel steel hardtail for fun.

I like parts that do the job and bikes that last. All of that is more than enough for me.

But £6000 for the Pinarello... I'm actually hoping I see one in the wild...

As i have said in a couple of different threads the companies don't make bikes for cycling fans anymore
If you want to see how much a fully set up bike would be go down to sigma sport in kingston
there you can see what the city wannabes spend there thousands on.
and if you want a really good laugh take a ride to boxhill on any saturday or sunday and watch them all struggling up there on there fancy bikes. What a bunch of muppets

This post is great, because I have a friend who got married at Hampton Court Palace (ridiculously posh, I felt massively out of place!) and I found Sigma Sport by accident when I was wandering round outside my hotel :)

On the Sunday I walked from my hotel to Hampton Court and I can attest to the large number of people on multiple thousand pound bikes riding at 15kph on the flat!

But each to their own. Better they are out on bikes than in on sofas and I'm sure their money helps tech trickle down to the level we are willing to buy at.

If they help keep the LBS* in business, thats just fine in my books.
I'd rather trim a pound (or many) off me than look to shave a few grams of my bike.

*I am related by marriage to a LBS owner, so may be biased in that assessment.

I support my LBS's as much as possible. As I do my own bike maintenance/building sometimes I just can't justify it but most of the time I buy locally.

And yeah, If I had a grand to spend I'd take myself to the Continent for a week of serious training, rather than dump it on lighter bike bits.

Two or three years ago they had Gerraints ex team bike on sale in Sigma for around 3,500 i seem to remember
I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole though as I know how those guys treat their bikes and it is not pretty

We'll have to agree to disagree fella ;-)

Yeah, it's not like Kiriyenka, Nordhaug, Eisel, and others blatantly rode for Team GB.....oh wait, yes they did

Being kind of a geek that I'am. I'm still waiting for that report SKY/UCI is doing. On living and training at altitude to explain Henao's Blood Values?

Hmmm, I guess that is not high on the things to do list at BOTH organizations?

Go and read of The Sports Gene by David Epstein then. There's a whole chapter about the blood of Colombians, Ethiopians and Nepalese.

The UCI wasn't involved.

It was Sky and a UK University (I think Leicester, but that could easily be wrong)

from June 2014

"Team Sky has revealed that the research programme was conducted by a team from the University of Sheffield with the cooperation of the Colombian anti-doping authorities. It started in Europe, continued for 6-weeks at altitude in Colombia and finished last week with final base-level tests in Nice. Team Sky said the findings have been given to WADA, the UCI and CADF and all urine tests are in the rider’s Biological Passport. The experts will also seek to publish a full scientific research paper in the coming months."

Re: Sky

So Sky is right on schedule and being transparent. lol. They are more hoping it is all just forgotten. Fans have very short memories.
