Samitier and Castrillo have been the pick of the Lizarte riders this year, and were the ones a few of us were earmarking to be this year's promotions to Movistar as soon as they elected to promote Carretero last year. Definitely Samitier, who's been a standout junior/espoir for a while in the Spanish scene. Sérgio was the more ready at that point in time, but Castrillo has come of age this year. While both have decent TT potential they are both climbers first and foremost. Samitier won the Vuelta a Bidasoa, one of the most important espoir races in Spain, taking a win on a HTF and launching an attack on the Jaizkibel; he has good explosive acceleration on the climbs, has won Muritos and also has good burst to win sprints from select groups, so while I had him down as more of a climber, he's a much more complete rider, but will still be more of a stage racer / hilly one-day races guy along the lines of many of the big Spaniards of the last generation. Despite his U23 TT success I still think Castrillo is more of a pure climber; he was the one Lizarte guy who really 'fit in' with the best of the espoirs from overseas in the team's expedition to the Giro della Valle d'Aosta, finishing top 20 and being strong in the major ascents which are longer and more grinding than most that he faces in the Basque-Navarrese scene, which tend to be more inconsistent and medium in length.
However, they were the only logical choices to promote from Lizarte this year, so if they do go Landa, Sepúlveda and Rosón (the Kudus rumour came around a couple of years ago, I don't know how much legs it has but I know Unzué is very high on the guy) and promote both Samitier and Castrillo, then that's a lot of escaladores coming on board, and not much horsepower for the flats especially with it looking likely that Gorka goes, and rumours about Castroviejo too. The only real logical alternative would have been Dzmitry Zhygunou, but then they might lose either Samitier or Castrillo if another team offers them, like they lost Óscar Rodríguez to Murias last year.
