Exceptionally good day for the best team in cycling. Ion was a monster, but what went under the radar was Castroviejo. Absolutely superb performances by both.

Dayer was decent, not spectacular. Soler, after being in the morning break and pulling, took advantage of the numbers. He will remember this win for a while. Nairo looked impressive, but its hard to read to much into it.

Very impressed by Soler too. I actually hoped to see Dayer stay longer with the peleton on the last climb. Was surprised that he dropped that early.

Yeah, somewhat disappointing, but Dayer seems to be much more of an allrounder. Decent/good on all terrains.

I underrated Soler. Yes, I know this is only Sud, but I had much more hope for Ruben Fernandez. The motor Soler showed out there was impressive. The interesting part is how many of the 'young guns' will assist Nairo in La Vuelta - Fernandez, Soler, Dayer etc. Looking very much forward to that.

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of choice Unzue will make: sending Ion to the Tour who seems to be in (top)shape already and with probably the national TT under his belt next week, or the veteran Moreno who will be useful in the third week. I don't think he will select both. Ventoso and Jesus Herrada should be the two other riders in the squad.

Extremely strong lineup. I like the fact they picked the better rider in Oliveira over Ventoso, he can also contribute on the more hilly days and even mountain stages.

Ion wanted to go so he should go. He is entitled to riding the Tour after the year he has had, but then I am surprised that Castroviejo was left out. I would have liked to see him instead of Herrada. Herrada isn't suited to pure domestique work IMO, he is much better as a captain/protected rider in smaller races and smaller classics, fx. like Pologne or the smaller spanish races. The Vuelta also suits him much better.

That leaves me to speculate for the Vuelta squad: Amador, Ventoso, Malori, Castroviejo, Erviti, Dayer, Fernandez, Soler, Betancur, Izagirre x2, Moreno and Nairo. Amador, Malori, Castro, Betancur and Nairo should be 100% barring any crashes/sickness/depression breakfast.

Has Herrada ever been in a race with Quintana? That's a strange decision IMO; especially if he took Castro Viejo's spot.
Yep,its really surprising. I thought Casteoviejo is a must

Castro is not in full shape yet. Unzue is way too experienced to make mistakes. He choose the very best in this moment

Don't think we'll see Malori in action this season any more. His recovery would take 6 till 12 months at least.

Yeah. Extremely strong. Look at Winner, Ion, Gorka, Moreno and Herrada brutaling it up the mountains. Pathetic performance except for Valverde and Quintana (and from perspective of Quintana's hype, his performance can be considered pathetic too). Especially Moreno and Izagirre suck. Izagirre's were at Suisse, though. Looks like anyone who was there is done; is that the reason?

Whole Movistar squad seems to be off for some reason that I can't think off. Only one who looks almost like his usual self is Valverde but he has Giro in legs which explains why he isn't quite 100%.

And yes, they have been disappointed. Dani Moreno, Anacona, Ion to some extend.. but why do you feel the need to rub it in constantly and be such a nuisance?

To rub it constantly? It's first time I've mentioned that. Calm down, you even agree with me yet you tell f*** off. And I'm not even only one saying this, there is you and Ratta sharing this opinion. Have you told yourself to f*** off too? I haven't seen that. ;)

Edit: emotions are high, I can understand.

Im not talking about this particular case, just your behaviour in general, fx. in the Contador-thread. It makes me take their party for crying out loud - then you know its bad, if you catch my drift.

I was probably too fast for my own good here, but you really didn't need to put it in that sarcastic and provocative tone.

I don't catch you drift because I don't understand these words "It makes me take their party for crying out loud" like in way that my english is not good enough.

This year's edition is very similar to the 2014 edition. A leader who just isn't good enough (Quintana/Valverde), a mountainsherpa who perhaps is even strong as the leader (Valverde/Gadret) and the other climbers who fail to deliver in the mountains (Anacona/Moreno vs Intxausti/Izagirre)

So?

I'm really curious to see the final Vuelta compo. At the moment there are a lot of doubts on the presence of Quintana, Valverde and even Betancur.
With all the leaders somehow at the end of their powers now ( Quintana, Valverde, Ion and Moreno), maybe it's an option to launch the youngsters like Fernandez and Soler.

Based on his race schedule, Fernandez would be the ''only'' leader being already the leader in Poland and probably in Burgos. But Movistar currently is 1st in the WT standings and will drop a lot of points with Fernandez as unique leader. Perhaps the Giro leaders Valverde/Amador + Moreno + Fernandez would be a good option under the current circumstances?

Im pretty sure Nairo will ride and he will obviously be the captain.

Amador doesn't have Vuelta-potential at all, if he will go (which he should), it will be as a 100% helper. Moreno is too old to be protected, but I could see him ride decently if selected. Ruben is interesting, but gotta show something soon. Valverde? If he rides, he will do well as in top-10.

I highly doubt that. The team doctor of Movistar, Jesus Hoyos has given an update on Nairo's situation on 24 July: 20 days of rest and medical exams. It would suprise me if Nairo still decides to participate with only one week of training before the Vuelta starts.

Can you link me that? I just read an interview a week ago that Quintana would skip the Olympics, citing it was in order to prepare properly for La Vuelta.
