It would be fun to see what everyone think their riders will score - or just what some of the most picked riders will score.

If they score this way, I will be happy. In reality some will flop, some get injured, some will be ill and I end around 9000 points.

I will miss only one pick - Matti Breschel - I rushed with my selection and just forgot him.

Does my team suck? I like only have 31 riders.

My 2 risks are (both influenced by chief advisor - El P) Jelle Vandevert and Tommy De Gendt.

Both had outstanding season so im paying top dollar. Both werent going to get picked by many.

I went for De Gendt because I think of how Gilbert developed and I dont think last year was his cieling. He broke his arm in the Tour and came 6th on LALPE. He then came 4th in the Tour tt the next day.

Thats talent. Talent i hope stays and gets to be shown off in races worth lots of points.

Jelle meanwhile, well he came 6th on Muur while doming for Gilbert. Hes got leadership now (other than when VDB is there), lets see what he can do with it.

Thats right, what was I thinking right :;)

The question is...is is a good thing or bad thing?

Quite honestly I would rather have more unique team

Better

I think Italians are necessary, at least 3-4 to take advantage of the huge points on offer in 1.1 land.

Yup. Loads of points there and also a reason to pay more attention to those races.

Well, I think technically if teams have the same number of points, then the team with the largest net score wins. So that probably makes Dim top at the moment (assuming that others picked teams with closer to 7500 points).

So Dim will be top until the first ranking comes out :D

Weve been over this. If 2 teams are equal the poster with more posts wins.

I'm a bit surprised these riders haven't been picked more times:

Juan Jose Haedo - 6 times
Antonio Santoro - 5 times
Daniele Ratto - 4 times
Sonny Colbrelli - 4 times

Did anyone consider these and why were they left out in the end?

Edit: Matteo Pelucchi - 7 times as well.

Ratto. I spent a while looking at and was in my team on many occasions, but I decided Fabio F and Enrico B were better.

I think one of the most interesting aspects in this years edition is the high number of different "expensive riders" picked.

Boonen, Kreuziger, Anton, LLS, Haussler, Vanendert, Kruijswijk, Brajkovic, Gesink, Roche, Van den Broeck, Menchov, Pinot, Van Garderen, Farrar etc. have all been picked quite a few times in various constellations, and some have De Gendt, Basso, Nibali etc. as well.

Havetts said:
I think Valls being mentioned made him be a pretty standard pick. Which is a shame :(.

I decided not to take him and didnt even think too long over it. COuld come back to bite me but 1987= turns 25 this year, and I want any 25 year olds to have shown more than a 2nd place in a Tour stage.

Besides, did he have any injuries this year or was it just a poor season which he could very well repeat?

Anyone counted up the 0 pointers? Verdict on best value in there? I lumped for just Sicard after dropping Lloyd and a couple of others.

he was injured for a half of year in 2010 (edit: problems with a knee, if i'm not mistaken), and whole the 2011 season he had mononucleosis...

Kvinto said:

oops:eek:

Well still. There is a case against him. He was leader at Footon, probably not at Vacan. Also you cant go all for young riders and I have 3 out of the last 4 u23 world champions so Vallls was out.

I somehow fluked a top ten finish last year. My longlist this year was based largely on those who were picked last year, and failed those who picked them. That means that it largely revolved around those who had failed in 2010 and 2011, or who had not had the breakthrough that was hoped for in 2011.

I somehow managed to miss one of my favourite riders, LL Sánchez, by doing this, and now see him among the most popular 10 picks, but even worse, my first draft submitted to Hugo included 2 riders that are inevitably destined for a major fall away in points. I'm embarrassed to admit that I had named Sergei Ivanov (now involuntarily retired) and Robbie McEwen (didn't realise he was quite that old, and had missed the announcement that he would retire in a couple of months) in my squad. I only noticed this when I worked out and posted an age/nationality/team/costing breakdown and posted it here, so I guess I am indebted to whoever started that set of posts. Hugo, ever the gentleman, allowed me to swap them out for Simon Clarke and Richie Porte, rapidly chosen as having an aggregate price not much lower than that of McEwen and Ivanov.

I guess the moral of the story is to avoid any name that translates as Johnson.

18 points I didnt want to see go, but Maxim Iglynski was unfortunately 20 points more.

That ******* tottaly destroyed the "harmony" of my team! Although he was only 1 point more for my team. Had to shuffle a few top-enders after that :(

Wow, 5 pages to get through...

statistically the average selection will be pretty accurate i expect to see kvinto in the final top 10 (i haven't looked at his team, although i'm sure i can guess who's in it).

my technique was scanning peoples teams from last year and seeing who was an awful selection, then picking them (ex riccco). i'm sure i missed people and it probably caused me to think young people who were good in the game last year shouldn't be picked so probably missed some good young guys at ~200 points.

was keen for nico roche but went with oscar freire instead

Cattaneo doesnt have a team. I asked our experts (Kazistuta and Madrazo and Jakob) and they seem to think that he will join Lampre as a staggaire later, so not worth it.

He will, least that's what the googletranslate article said. :D

Here's my superb team:

BARDET Romain 130
(21) He's gone from 9 points to 50 to 130. He's on the rise, man!
BASSO Ivan 917
(34) He's going to win the Giro, I'm sure of it!
BLYTHE Adam 173
(22) He's... young, you know.
BOARO Manuele 67
(24) I had to pick Saxo riders. Like, duh...
BOOKWALTER Brent 132
(27) Just picked him because I saw a couple of nice results of him in the TTs, I didn't actually look at his results on the CQ site lol...
BOONEN Tom 502
(31) I'm sure he's going to score more.
BRAJKOVIC Janez 562
(28) He rode with Pfeiffer's disease last year, so he has to score more this year.
BRESCHEL Matti 98
(27) I just hope his knee won't get in the way of results again. :(
CASTROVIEJO NICOLAS Jonathan 296
(24) He's a pretty talented TTer, he finished 11th at the Worlds and 2nd at the Spanish Nationals, plus won two time trials, notably the prologue of Romandie.
COSTA Rui Alberto Faria 413
(25) He did well last year, scoring 664 points, but only cost 413 because of his suspension.
DE LA FUENTE RASILLA David 144
(30) He's just like... awesome.
DUMOULIN Tom 81
(21) He's still young, so he should at least improve.
FELLINE Fabio 222
(21) He has a nice name, y'know.. And he's only 21 years old.
HERNANDEZ BLAZQUEZ Jesus 81
(30) Jesus is da man. He looks like 20 but is in fact thirty, and won't score many points, but he is awesome!!
HERRADA LOPEZ Jesus 205
(21) Just picked him because I was looking for youngsters and Spaniards.
JØRGENSEN Jonas Aaen 242
(25) Eee! Jonas is awesome and pretty so what's not to like?
JUUL JENSEN Christopher 83
(22) We know Bjarne has them eyes for talent, so Chris should be quite a talent too right?
KELDERMAN Wilco 134
(20) There's lots of hyping about him so I though well I'll just join. ;)
KING Benjamin 115
(22) I only chose him because he's young and American and his name's King.
KISERLOVSKI Robert 261
(25) For some reason he just sprang to me and didn't let go lol.

:p Our aim is top 100. With 6 unique picks (Miyazawa, Chris Juul , Jonas Aaen, Tommy, Troels Vinther and Manuele Boaro) I'm on the 14th place of The Uniqueness Ranking (IIRC) and with those I've picked almost half of the Saxo team (Tommy totes counts as Saxo as well). I'll come with a clarification of my picks some time today. (I have to think about some legit reasons...)

My team has 16 different nationalities:
Italian – 7
Danish – 5
Spanish – 4
American – 3
Dutch – 3
French, British, Belgian, Slovenian, Croatian, Iranian, Ozzy, Japanese, Polish, Norwegian, Portuguese – all 1

My team consists out of 33 riders, costing 7499 points together. With an average age of almost 25, my team has talent, and experience. A fair amount of them are my personal favourites, and others are either ones that had a sh*tty season last year, so I expect them to do a better one this year,or (young) talents that I think can improve quite a bit.

In the quote I've posted my clarifications.

SANCHEZ GIL Luis Leon
HAUSSLER Heinrich
FEILLU Brice
KREUZIGER Roman
PORTE Richie
BRESCHEL Matti
BAGDONAS Gediminas

Here's my superb team:

KRISTOFF Alexander 446
(24) Right, was it ACF who was hyping this guy? I'll just join alright?
MAJKA Rafal 57
(22) He's young... And talented... And Saxo-boy...
MASCIARELLI Francesco 127
(25) Okay, I'll admit. I have no idea whatsoever who this guy is.
MIYAZAWA Takashi 143
(31) He is a Japanese sprinter of team Saxobank and I want to see what he can do.
PUCCIO Salvatore 100
(22) Just his name alone already... Salvatore Puccio. Damn he's awesome! And young.
RENSHAW Mark 286
(29) He was Cav's leadout man. Not anymore. He won't have much competition as a sprinter of the Rabobank team. Wins guaranteed.
RIIS Thomas Nybo 5
(19) EEEEE!!! Bjarne not only has the eyes for talent but has them genes too and Tommy is going to be just as awesome as his father. Remember when Bjarne said Alberto was the most talented rider he knew of? He was lying. He totes thinks Tommy is the most talented. And he's super pretty. And I expect him to at least double his score. ;)
RUIJGH Rob 300
(25) I hadn't heard of him before this season, so I'm sure he's going to do well.
SANTORO Antonio 103
(22) He's Italian and Italians are awesome. Just as Spaniards and Danes.
SOHRABI Mahdi 210
(30) He's like a bit of a hype and I don't to miss out on something, so...
TALANSKY Andrew 229
(23) He's going to be Garmin's Tour top 10 guy.
ULISSI Diego 483 (22) Honestly, I don't remember why I picked him. Most probable is because Italians are awesome.
VINTHER Troels Rønning 152
(24) He has an awesome (and slightly weird) name and he's Danish and Saxo-boy and pretty so there.

Our aim is top 100.

This is the second part of my clarifications. Again, in the quote...

I know some of my reasons are weird but please don't hate.
