Not wanting to sound ungrateful and demanding, but will there be any updates for July at all?

The carnage in Poland is bad news for my team. Was hoping for a good haul of points from Jungels who crashed out, and possibly Peraud as well, another DNF.

With the top 5 currently looking like this (hope this doesn't spoil upcoming updates), it looks like skidmark could pull away from the "big 4" with some significant Formolo points from Poland:

1 Kjellus 9611
2 skidmark 9597
3 jeroenk 9571
4 Squire 9496
5 the asian 8998

However, with the Tour of Poland finishing on Monday, those points will be distributed at the same time as the Tour GC update after next weekend, so we could see some interesting developments. All the top 4 have D.Martin and TJVG, but jeroenk could be the one profitting the most with Adam Yates. Lots of racing still to be done though. I'm worried about all the Formolists currently in the top 10, as my more rare Tour GC picks Barguil and Kreuziger are not looking like advancing much. Damn, I really could have done with those Jungels points.

The person who did the updates in June has sent me the instructions on how to do them so I'm happy to do the two that have been missed and this weeks one as well, I've done some of the youth game updates this year so sort of know what I'm doing anyway!

I'll try and have one up tonight, then last weeks on Tuesday/Wednesday and then this weeks Thursday/Friday.

Hopefully that is OK with people.

Not really my decision, but I say go ahead. If you have any questions regarding the update, feel free to ask me :)

Update #25: Sagan for Success

Not much in the way of action this week with the opening couple of stages of The Tour being the main chance to pick up some points, given that is the case it's no real surprise that the leading three teams all have Peter Sagan, followed by teams with Alaphilippe and Cavendish.

This Week's Top scorers

Rank Team Pts this week
1 LaVelocipede 210
2 kiilike 195
3 scrooll07 185
4 Eric10 169
5 ironted 150
6 the_fool_on_the_hill 136
7 Vesica 130
8 Sasquatch 129
9 togo95 125
10 LaFlorecita 112

As mentioned all the top teams had Sagan, they also all had Marcel Kittel however it was the addition of Dan Martin which meant that LaVelocipede was the leading scorer this week.

Eric10 also had Kittel but was aided by Nicola Ruffoni's first win of the year which he got on the second stage of the Tour of Austria.

Most of the rest of the top 10 are there thanks to riders already mentioned however 6th place for the week the_fool_on_the_hill did have a contribution from rare pick Nathan Van Hooydonck who picked up two top ten finishes in lower level races.

High movers this week

Rank Team Up / down
1 LaVelocipede +9
2 Eric10 +6
= scrooll07 +6
4 ironted +5
5 Jspear +4

The only one of the top five movers who was not in the top 10 for the week is Jspear who was 14th.

Polka Dot Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 110
2 Eric10 96
3 the_fool_on_the_hill 80
4 ironted 78
5 EvansIsThebest 72

Eric10 halves the gap at the top however Emericlabordure still has a fairly healthy lead. ironted and the_fool_on_the_hill move up one place at the expense of EvansIsTheBest who drops a couple of places, the only other movement in the top 10 is Amsterdam moving into 10th place.

Green Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 215
2 Pentacycle 161
3 ironted 139
4 Eric10 131
5 Kjellus 128.3

No change for the top two however ironted and Eric10 leap into the top five, Kjellus drops a couple of places, elsewhere in the top ten togo95 is up to eighth and the_fool_on_the_hill is now 9th.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Team Total Points Up / down
1 Kjellus 9304 +2
2 jeroenk 9300 -1
3 Skidmark 9285 -1
4 Squire 9199 =
5 theasian 8760 =
6 vladimir 8711 =
7 abbulf 8679 =
8 Maaaaaaaarten 8672 =
9 CraZyCaLL 8638 =
10 togo95 8610 +2

kjellus has moved into first place albeit by only 4 points, jeroenk and Skidmark both drop one place into second and third respectively however it is all very tight. As you might expect with so little racing going on there is not much movement in the top ten with 4-9 staying in the same place. Squire is within touching distance of the podium and has a decent size lead to 5th place. Togo95 is the only new entry in the top 10 at the expense of Nicosix.

There are no real big losers this week perhaps the unluckiest person is LaFlorecita who despite being tenth on the week drops a place to 12th.

As said there is limited movement this week however next week might see a bit more of a shakeup.

Five more teams moved into profit this week, they are hilltopfinisher, GP Blanco, Amsterdam, last years winner Cykeltyven and ansimi, this means we now have 65 teams in profit so far this year.

This is the update for a couple of weeks ago, I will post last weeks in a few days and then this weeks not long after that and then hopefully we will be caught up by next week.

Update #26: Strong performance in Austria helps Joelsim win the week

Joelsim takes the honours this week thanks in part to having the top two finishers in the Tour of Austria, Jan Hirt (also a stage winner) and Guillaume Martin, he added to that with contributions from popular picks Marcel Kittel and Dan Martin and also with Daniel Navarro's two top five finishes on stages 7 and 9 of the Tour de France.

This Week's Top scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Joelsim 535
2 topprak 464
3 just some guy 434
4 vroome.exe 430
5 search 420
6 freshman 414
7 postmanhat 381
8 18-Valve. (pithy) 374
9 Emericlabordure 368
10 VeloRooms 354

One of topprak's main points contributors was the rare pick (2) Chris Froome who got a stage win and held the yellow jersey for a couple of days, they also had Guillaume Martin, Kittel and Navarro as well as getting a couple of stages wins courtesy of Nicola Ruffoni in Austria and Steele Von Hoff in the Sibiu Tour.

Rounding out this weeks podium is just some guy who had the aforementioned, Hirt, Kittel, Dan Martin and Navarro as well as a minor input from Vincenzo Nibali.

Virtually everyone else in the top ten had riders already mentioned to credit for their performance this week the notable exception being Emericlabordure who on top of a couple of those also has Bryan Coquard and Dan McLay.

High movers this week

Rank Team Up / down this week
1 Joelsim +18
2 freshman +13
= vroome.exe +13
4 search +12
5 18-Valve. (pithy) +10

All five high movers this week are in the top ten for the week, the highest ranked overall out of those is search who has moved into the top 20.

Polka Dot Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 117
2 Eric10 96
3 ironted 88
4 the_fool_on_the_hill 80
5 EvansIsThebest 72

After having their lead cut last week Emericlabordure increases it after being the joint 7th highest mover this week, elsewhere in the top five ironted and the_fool_on_the_hill switch places thanks to ironted's unique pick, the revitalised Mark Cavendish. Elsewhere in the top 10 freshman has moved up six places into 6th.

Green Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 229
2 Pentacycle 161
3 ironted 139
4 Eric10 131
5 Kjellus 128.3

Once again Emericlabordure extends their lead and is now 68 points clear of 2nd position, there is absolutely no other movement in the top 10, a bit further down both just some guy and frehsman have jumped into the top 25.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Team Total Points Up / down

7 vladimir 8933 -1
8 abbulf 8910 -1
9 CraZyCaLL 8872 =
10 LaFlorecita 8843 +2

Kjellus maintains their place at the top of the standings and skidmark and jeroenk switch places but it is still very tight with just 40 points separating the top three. As with last week squire stays in fourth and has a decent gap over 5th place. The two upward movers in the top ten are Maaaaaaaarten and LaFlorecita who both move up a couple of places into 6th and 10th respectively, togo95 is the unlucky one who drops to 11th.

We now have 80 teams into profit meaning 15 more got there this week.

Yay moved up another two places!

When the GC points come in I might be in for losing some points though. I just hoped Landa would get top 20 or something and Nibali would maybe win a stage. I think almost everybody in the top 10 has Van Garderen and Daniel Martin, so Van Garderen not being good isn't really harmful, but Martin doing okay isn't helpful either. And that's about it for GC points for me. I was also hoping for Jeannesson to get 15th or something. :(

Thanks so much to snccdcno for taking over! I don't know what kind of technical mishap occurred with my PMs to jaylew, they say they're sent in my sent folder but obviously he didn't get them, and I didn't have frequent enough internet access to troubleshoot. Anyway, catching up on the updates are much appreciated.

As for my team, I know it's a rich man's problem to have your worst problem not being in first place, but I've been oh so tantalizingly close this year and last year, but haven't been first on any updates despite being within 20-50 points several times. Ah well, this is a great place to be coming into the final quarter of the year. The Tour GC was a bit ghastly for me, with Dan Martin exceeding expectations and TJVG and Barguil falling far short. The Tour is always hard to get tons of points on in this game, as it's the cream of the crop and the expensive riders tend to take the most points. So I'm not disappointed exactly, I just had higher hopes, particularly for Barguil and TJ in the third week when I thought they could slip away to take a stage or two.

Looking forward to getting home in two weeks and being able to follow more closely!

Update #27: Jancouver's multiple pronged performance in Poland takes the week

Jancouver is this weeks highest points scorer thanks to a strong performance in the Tour of Poland, they had no less than six riders contributing a decent amount of points, in the GC there was Davide Formolo and Davide Villella who finished 4th and 10th respectively, they also had the winners of the first four stages, Davide Martinelli, Fernando Gaviria (two stages) and Niccolo Bonifazio, as well as Luka Mezgec who finished on the podium in two stages.

This Week's Top scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Jancouver 477
2 tanja 475
3 Sasquatch 439
4 topprak 435
5 Team_X 434
6 scrooll07 425
7 freshman 423
8 Nicosix 408
= Sneekes 408
10 CraZyCaLL 390

tanja's unique pick Larry Warbasse finished 7th in Poland and was also helped by Tom Dumoulin's win in the time trial on stage 13 of the Tour, they also had Formolo and Gaviria.

3rd place on the week was Sasquatch who on top of having Gaviria, Bonifazio and Mezgec had Tour stage 15 winner Jarlinson Pantano and 6th place on GC in Poland Ruben Fernandez.

Of note elsewhere in the top ten: topprak and freshman had their main contribution from Chris Froome who finished 2nd on a couple of stages and wore the yellow jersey the entire week. scrooll07 is one of only three people to have Peter Sagan who scored 245 points this week which was due to two stages wins, as well as a second and third place. Nicosix had rare pick Tiesj Benoot who finished 5th in Poland.

The rider that scored the most points this week with 307 was Tim Wellens who was the winner in Poland he is a unique pick for Eyeballs Out who managed to finish 25th on the week pretty much solely thanks to Wellens.

High movers this week

Rank Team Up / down
1 scrooll07 +15
2 Jancouver +13
3 Sneekes +12
4 Sasquatch +11
5 freshman +10

Not a great deal to add here as the biggest movers were all in the best ten performers on the week, Jancouver is in the best position of all of those in the overall rankings and is now in 33rd place.

Polka Dot Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 117
2 Eric10 96
3 ironted 88
4 freshman 82
5 the_fool_on_the_hill 80

No change for the top three however freshman moves up three places into 4th, Sneekes is now in 7th place and the highest mover for the week scrooll07 has moved into 8th place.

Green Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 229
2 Jancouver 171
3 Pentacycle 161
4 ironted 139
5 Eric10 131

Jancouver takes advantage of being the best team this week by moving up 5 places into 2nd and is 58 points behind long time leader Emericlabordure. Elsewhere in the top 10 Nicosix has moved into 10th place.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Team Total Points Up / down
1 skidmark 9944 +1
2 jeroenk 9843 +1
3 Kjellus 9825 -2
4 Squire 9726 =
5 Maaaaaaaarten 9286 +1
6 CraZyCaLL 9262 +3
7 Nicosix 9224 +5
8 the asian 9160 -3
9 vladimir 9152 -2
10 abbulf 9121 -2

Skidmark is the new leader and jeroenk is up to second this is at the expense of former leader Kjellus who has dropped to third. Skidmark is over 100 points clear which whilst in the big picture isn't a large lead is the biggest gap in six weeks, the difference maker was Formolo and his 139 points.

Maaaaaaaarten moves up for the second week in a row, CraZyCaLL and Nicosix are the biggest movers with the latter moving back into the top ten after a couple of weeks absence. The asian is the biggest faller in the top ten having moved from 5th to 8th, the only person to drop out of the top ten is LaFlorecita who is now 15th.

18 more teams moved into profit this week meaning 98 teams have achieved that so far.

In a look forward to next weeks update I thought I would have a look at how those teams in the top twenty fare when the big points are handed out in the race which is the most generous when it comes to points available.

The cut off I used was top 15 on GC (100 points)

Dan Martin and Adam Yates - jeroenk, abbulf, togo95 and greenedge
Dan Martin, Roman Kreuziger and Sebastien Reichenbach - Kjellus
Roman Kreuziger and Dan Martin - Squire
Dan Martin and Sebastien Reichenbach - search
Dan Martin - skidmark, Maaaaaaaarten, CraZyCaLL, the asian, vladimir, Geraint Too Fast, LaFlorecita, Kazistuta, waleweter, asdfgh101 and Hugo Koblet.
Nobody - Nicosix and Wallenquist

There are two teams that have Chris Froome, three that have Romain Bardet and two that have Nairo Quintana, the highest ranked team out of those is in 70th place so whilst they may not have an impact near the top of the standings they could well be among the highest scorers and more than likely the highest movers of the week.

The spreadsheet can be found here

Great update, thanks!

What's astonishing is that skidmark is leading while having been in the weekly top ten only once this year (and that was a 9th). Such consistency!

A bad few weeks for my team has been made worse by the news about Jesse Sergent retiring. So he's stuck on a 30 point return for a cost of 113.

Looking forwaad to the next update.

Hopefully having Nibali and Barguil as well as Martin means i should be able to hold on to my top 10 place.

Have given up hope of winning the game.

800 Points is too much of a gap and Skidmark has nearly all the main riders that i have.

Only chance is if Nibbles wins both Olympic RR and Lombardia, but given that Nibali's leaving Astana at the end of the year i feel it's highly unlikely that he'll do it.

Yates and Meintjes have delivered, Frank and Pelucchi I'm still waiting for. Asadov and Alizadeh were mistakes. I had never heard of the former and barely heard of the latter. Either they perform in the end of year Asian races or my top 100 goal is not gonna happen.

Happy with Yates and Meintjes (although I am not 100% confident that he will break even this season). Had hoped for a bit more from Barguil and Rosa and a stage win from anywhere would have been nice.

My main disappointments this year have been Arredondo (I suspect I am with 59 others here) and Daniel Diaz (not entirely sure why I picked him). The other Yates obviously now has a very low score but that is more circumstance than him actually doing too badly.

I still have hopes that other low scorers like Dombrowski, Polanc, Peraud (unlucky so far this season), Teuns and Anton (less confident) will score well in the 2nd half of the season.

1st time I have done this though so I have learnt the sort of rider to get for next time...

Nice to see I'm up another time. But next week will be hard with me only having Dan Martin in the top 20 GC though. If I want to get anywhere I need to have Nibali win Rio and Landa needs to find some races where he can be the captain and score some points.

Update #28: Freshman first thanks to Froome

The Tour is the race that gets the most attention all year and is also more importantly for this game the race that gives out the most CQ points. That meant this week that two teams managed to score more than 1000 points. This is not as many as last year when one team actually scored more than 2000 points but this speaks to the rarity of most of the main points scorers, which is obviously good for those teams that have them.

Freshman is this week’s top scorer, it's no surprise that they have the rider that scored the most points this week in Chris Froome with an impressive 764 points, they also have Dan Martin and comparatively minor contributions from Marcel Kittel and Tejay Van Garderen.

This Week's Top scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 freshman 1092
2 axis 1039
3 topprak 990
4 Slapshot 982
5 scrooll07 962
6 armchairclimber 955
7 RoudeLeiw 920
8 postmanhat 896
9 ironted 838
10 GP Blanco 816

Next up is axis who is one of only three people who selected Romain Bardet who scored 546 points, they also had Adam Yates as well as Kittel and Warren Barguil.

Finishing off the podium is topprak who aside freshman is the only other person to have Froome they also have rare pick Geraint Thomas as well as Kittel and a small amount of points from Mikel Landa.

Elsewhere in the top ten it's as expected dominated by teams with people who did well in the Tour de France, Slapshot in fourth did also have unique pick Jelle Wallays who was the winner of Grand Prix Cerami and armchairclimber had the 3rd place finisher Christopher Latham.

High movers this week

Rank Team Up / down
1 freshman +31
2 scrooll07 +23
= postmanhat +23
4 axis +22
5 RoudeLeiw +19

All of the top five movers were highly placed on the week, this is the third update in a row freshman has been among the highest movers, this has helped them become the highest ranked of all those listed above and they are now in 39th place.

Polka Dot Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 117
2 freshman 107
3 Eric10 96
4 ironted 94
5 the_fool_on_the_hill 83

Due to the fact mentioned above it's no real surprise that freshman is now sitting in second place in the polka dot competition and is the closest challenger to Emericlabordure in a little while, elsewhere in the top 10 scrooll07 off the back of two good weeks in a row is now up into 6th place and RoudeLeiw is in 10th.

Green Jersey

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 229
2 Jancouver 171
3 Pentacycle 161
4 freshman 159
5 ironted 153

The podium remains unchanged but freshman is up 7 places into 4th, Slapshot up one to 6th and scrooll07 climbs 8 places to take the last spot in the top 10.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Team Total Points Up / down
1 jeroenk 10606 +1
2 Kjellus 10563 +1
3 skidmark 10488 -2
4 Squire 10357 =
5 abbulf 9889 +5
6 togo95 9875 +5
7 Maaaaaaaarten 9790 -2
8 greenedge 9770 +6
9 CraZyCaLL 9728 -3
10 the asian 9707 -2

Jeroenk is the new leader, they have replaced skidmark who achieved their aim to lead at least once, Kjellus moves up to second and Squire has a Rojas like grip on fourth place, as you might expect in a week where so many points have been handed out some of the gaps are starting to grow.

The three big movers in the top ten are abbulf, togo95 and greenedge who all had the Yates and Martin combination. The two people that have dropped out of the top ten are vladimir who is now 11th and Nicosix who is 14th.

19 more teams have found their way into profit meaning 117 out of 144 have achieved that.

The spreadsheet can be found here

Not too shabby, up another two spots to 15. What could have been, if Kelderman, Barguil and Tejay didn't all fail to live up to the expectations?

Placings from Demare and GC from Meersman in Belgien should keep me floating this week, and hopefully the guys in my home tour can get a solid earning (all of Cort,Valgren,Van Asbroeck, Herklotz and Bauhaus made it in the front group yesterday, and the first 4 have decent chances to do well GC wise).

Sometime post-Giro, pre-Tour I was sitting close to the Top10... now I'm 59th cursing the Tour once more.

Hopefully Wallonie kickstarted my comeback with Jelle V (99), Senechal (56) and Lietar (34) scoring on top of Demares 20 points.

San Sebastian
Kwiatkowski (hopefully he starts saving his and my season right about now...)
Dan Martin
De Plus
Restrepo
Jelle V
Kudus
Jeannesson

Hopefully, those guys have some friends among the motos...

Getxo
Betancur
Haig

Rad am Ring
Nerz

Utah
Bohli
Zabel

So much for kickstarting...

wow, my wish came true! Now I just hope for a solid continuation of the season. Things are looking good so far this week, with Meersman finally scoring some good points (although letting the GC slip through his grasp at the end) and my two danes Cort and Valgren looking real hot so far. I'll be back on updates starting next week, thanks to all who took over. Let's take a look at this weekend:

San Sebastian

Dan Martin
Arthur Vichot
Warren Barguil
Davide Formolo
Louis Vervaeke
Merhawi Kudus

The first three are fresh off the Tour and absolutely threats for the win (although probably too tough for Vichot). Formolo could easily top 10 in this race as well; Vervaeke is working for his leaders and Kudus hasn't really raced since the Giro so I don't expect much from them. Quality over quantity for my team.

Polynormande

Yannick Martinez
Guillaume Martin

I don't know this race, but the podium list from recent years suggests either solo attacker or small bunch; I guess both these guys could feature, Martin certainly is in form after Austria, although he's more of a climber climber than puncheur.

Memorial Ricardo Otxoa

Betancur

*shrug* I dunno, he can win anything on his day, but his day doesn't come that often now.

RideLondon

NOBODY

Oh wait, I have Goss - well, I guess I don't have to revise that 'NOBODY', really. Either way, zero points from a HC race might be bad news to balance my otherwise okay week. Lots will depend on San Sebastian.

Nice haul of 200 in three races this week for Simon Yates. Went with the twins over the similarly priced Kwiatkowski and it could still end up being the right decision, despite Yates's point wipeout. Manny Buchmann goes into profit today as well.

This week has a few riders who are still in the red though

Utah
Talansky

Burgos:
Betancur
Eiking
Yates, S
Mas
Ebsen

Nice. After the ideal start I disappeared from the top ranks somewhat, but in the last few weeks I have been climbing back up again. At this point my goal for the rest of the season will be to keep the position of the best team without Cancellara. A top 10 overall would be awesome.

Update #29: Well done Crevaison

Crevaison is this weeks highest points scorer the team had strong performances in Wallonie and Denmark, in the former they had Gianni Meersman, Jelle Vanendert and Florian Senechal who finished 2nd, 4th and 8th overall respectively and in Denmark they had stage winners and 1-2 on GC with Michael Valgren and Magnus Cort Nielsen.

This Week's Top scorers

1 Crevaison 798
2 Hugo Koblet 767
3 Londonpat 759
4 search 749
5 Schleckamagurky 728
6 ansimi 720
7 hilltopfinisher 710
8 Ruudz0r 705
9 Eric10 701
10 Martin 691

Hugo Koblet had four of those five riders with Senechal being the exception, they also picked up a lot of minor contributions like from Marc Soler who finished top ten in one of the Spanish one day races held last week. Much the same can be said for Londonpat who finished third, they didn't have Soler but did have Nicolas Marini who got a couple of podium places in Tour of Qinghai Lake.

The rest of the top ten is made up of teams with some of the riders mentioned above, ansimi, Ruudz0r and Eric10 also had nearly 200 points from Simon Yates and his various exploits in Spain and Martin had Ride London winner Tom Boonen as well as Mads Wurtz Schmidt who won a stage and finished third in Denmark.

Onto the monthly standings now and the top two are the only teams with Chris Froome and given the July he had I suppose it's not a surprise they are at the top, he was responsible for just under half of the points freshman got and just over half for topprak, Joelsim got a solid contribution from a lot of his riders the most points from one was Dan Martin with 312. Scrooll07 combined the rare picks Peter Sagan and Romain Bardet, search whose good month has seen him move into the top ten goes the same route as Joelsim with Dan Martin being the highest scorer.
