Page 42 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
I didn't check this thread for a while and then I see surprisingly that I won a weekly update! :D  And still climbing to the top-25...Already on a higher score than last year, with several the Vuelta, Canadian races, Worlds en Lombardia still to come! Kwiat and Rosa are better going to score some points...

At some point I really hoped to finish in the top 10 this year. But with Nibali crashing in Rio and Landa getting sick in the Giro and just doing some pointless domestiquing after that, it's not going to work out. If TA had the MTF and Nibali would've won, if Landa didn't get sick in the Giro after amazingly limiting his losses in the TT and if Nibali would not have crashed and at least podium in Rio, I would definitely have been firmly planted in the top 10 right now, but now I'm 17th and I don't have much hope going up. Hopefully but doubtfully I can still hold on to a top 20 place, which would be the highest I've ever ended......

Update #33: Big week(s) sees Emericlabordure solidly claim leads in Green and Polka Dot Jersey comps

This update was a bit of a long time coming. First off, there was no Aug. 28 update from CQ so no game update came last week; then, this week they put up both Sept. 4th and Aug. 28th, but the Aug 28th update contained the same data as September 4th, even with races that took place afterwards! I didn't notice until I was writing an update, thought I made a mistake, then didn't have time to check it to make sure for a few days. So, pardon the long delay.

At any rate, this week's update covers 2 weeks of the Vuelta, the GP Plouay, and a few other HC races. Not a ton of shakeup in the overall, but the supplementary competitions get some solidification at the top.

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Emericlabordure 785
2 Roubaix 690
3 jsem94 660
4 Geraint Too Fast 650
5 LosBrolin 644

You may be familiar with the name at the top of this list. For the fifth time this year, Emericlabordure gets the most points for a week of this game. With the three fastest French sprinters out there (Bouhanni, Coquard, Demare), this team was always bound to get points in clumps, and it has definitely shown over the course of this game. Throw in the ever-present, ever-popular Kittel, as well as Meersman, McLay and a few others, and it is no surprise this team is tops once again. Second place Roubaix goes a slightly different route, with Kittel and Demare and Meersman but also less popular picks like Simon Yates and David De La Cruz picking up solid points in the Vuelta - watch out for this team in the next update, as both are quite high on GC and quite rare picks. Third place jsem94 also has those 3 popular picks but gets big points from Sylvain Chavanel (who won a 2.1 race way back in August) to round out this week's podium.

This Week's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 Emericlabordure (+16)
2 Roubaix (+14)
3 LosBrolin (+13)
4 vernakular (+10)
5 jsem94 (+9)
5 uspostal (+9)
5 Martin (+9)

A similar group to the above list; just like their team was constructed to score points in clumps, Emericlabordure's team has also gone down the standings in quiet moments, and rocketed up them during weeks like this. Three weeks winning and three weeks finishing second in the Highest Movers competition this year, on top of the 5 Top Scorer titles. The top 2 teams are the same as above, with LosBrolin making the podium on the back of a stellar performance from unique pick Alexander Kristoff, who despite being almost 1000 points behind last year, can certainly pick them up in clumps on a given week.

This Month's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this month
1 hilltopfinisher 1820
2 Roubaix 1742
3 StephenC2020 1673
4 the_fool_on_the_hill 1650
5 jsem94 1631
6 Vesica 1610
7 ansimi 1571
8 Hakkie2 1568
9 Josedin 1560
10 shalgo 1558

It is also the end of the month, and so time to look back on a relatively quiet August, at least compared to the heady days of spring and leading up to the Tour. hilltopfinisher has had a good go of it, with Cancellara, Ewan, Moscon, Meersman, Demare and Oomen all picking up more than 150 points in August. The rest of the top 10 clear 1500 points for the month as well.

This Month's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 hilltopfinisher (+32)
2 the_fool_on_the_hill (+25)
2 Roubaix (+25)
4 Lortnoc (+23)
4 jsem94 (+23)
6 ansimi (+19)
7 Team_X (+18)
8 Vesica (+17)
8 simple (+17)
10 LightBing (+16)

Again, hilltopfinisher does finish on top of this particular hill, using a good month to move into the top 30 overall.

Green Jersey Competition

Rank Team Total
1 Emericlabordure 274
2 Eric10 190
3 Jancouver 175
4 freshman 173
5 Pentacycle 161

Emericlabordure had a good lead going into this week at 229 points total, but others were catching up; this win makes it much more likely that the top of these standings will be the same at the end of this game. There is only one team within TWO weekly wins (or 90 points) of Emericlabordure as it stands now, so this is a Sagan-like lead.

Polka Dot Jersey Competition

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 143
2 freshman 117
3 the_fool_on_the_hill 111
4 Eric10 96
5 ironted 94

This one was getting even closer - in recent weeks, freshman had pulled to within one point of Emericlabordure, but again, this week's victory really pulls their team away in that regard. This one isn't quite as done as the Green Jersey, but more than a weekly win of a lead is pretty good at this point.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (-) skidmark 12587
2 (-) jeroenk 12375
3 (+1) abbulf 11937
4 (-1) Kjellus 11897
5 (-) Squire 11854
6 (-) togo95 11685
7 (-) Eric10 11602
8 (+2) search 11488
9 (-) vladimir 11473
10 (-2) greenedge 11471

And finally, despite this update covering two weeks, the area with perhaps the least amount of movement is the top 10 overall. The top 10 is stretched out over 1000 points, although there are some clumps and individual battles to be had, and there is still alot of racing to go, including the Canadian races, the Vuelta GC, the Italian one-day races, and of course the Worlds. No teams enter or leave the top 10 this week, and the space between 1st and 2nd increases slightly as team skidmark benefitted from a strong performance from Chavanel to end up in 10th place on the week for points.

well, I've gotta be happy with this week. No huge points from a single source, but just a solid week all around. Cort comes alive with two stage wins, Talansky and Formolo get all-time GT highs, some not-top-10-but-okay points from Guillaume, Dan, AND Tony Martin in the ToB (all my Martins at once!), and some more from Stuyven and Valgren in Canada. Sure it's a shame that Lopez dropped out of La Vuelta and that guys like Van Garderen and Kudus didn't really do anything. But I've gotta be happy with the week, and obviously very happy with where my team is.

All that information and no change in position !!

Still sitting 47th

Don't see the Vuelta being strong overall either.

Latour and Frank strong in final stages, but no GC threat as hoped

Lopez crashed out, Anton was my wild card for top 7 was ill & TJVG was pointless (figuratively and literally)

Update #34: kiilike uses Sagan's success to top 1000 points in Vuelta GC week

The big points event this week, of course, was the Vuelta, but clusters of points come in other races as well, notably the Canadian WT races, and of course the Tour of Britain. To win, it would make sense that one would have to maximize Vuelta GC points, rare picks, and points from the other races. This was just the case this week.

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 kiilike 1071
2 Carlo_Algatrensig 1064
3 Roda_na_Frente 1038
4 uspostal 993
5 ansimi 954

Three teams topped the 1000 points mark, and kiilike takes a narrow victory by 7 points. Sagan's (3 teams) 352 points certainly helped to a large degree, as did Talansky's 245, and around 100 from Peraud and unique pick Konig. Carlo Algatrensig comes oh so close with a more varied team, including Talansky and Peraud, but also with Formolo, Matthias Frank, Nathan Haas and Dylan Van Baarle. Roda Na Frente takes third on the strength of, well, Quintana and his 641 points for the week.

This Week's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 Roubaix (+19)
2 vernakular (+17)
3 uspostal (+16)
3 PeterB (+16)
5 vroome.exe (+15)
5 kiilike (+15)

After finishing second in this category last week, Roubaix has another solid week on the back of Simon Yates, Formolo and David De La Cruz, and a ton of other scorers in the 15-60 range. Vernakular (the other team with Quintana) and uspostal (Mollema, Talansky, Haas, Cort) go to show even more how many different ways to success there are in this game, especially in high scoring weeks.

Green Jersey Competition

Rank Team Total
1 Emericlabordure 274
2 Eric10 200
3 Jancouver 175
4 Roda_na_Frente 173
4 freshman 173

After last week seemed to cement things at the top, this week has a little movement underneath. Eric10 picked up 10 points to become the second team to cross 200 and make it less of a miracle if they catch Emericlabordure in the final part of the season. Roda na Frente takes 30 big points to move into a tie for 4th. A little lower, the fool on the hill and Roubaix moved into the top 10 overall.

Polka Dot Jersey Competition

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 143
2 the_fool_on_the_hill 118
3 freshman 117
4 Roubaix 100
5 Eric10 96

This one, as mentioned last week, is slightly tighter, although Emericlabordure still has a healthy lead. the fool on the hill's 7 points moves them into 2nd, and one week's victory (25 points) away from a tie for first. Roubaix, with this week's win, moves into the top 5.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (-) skidmark 13215
2 (-) jeroenk 12979
3 (-) abbulf 12617
4 (+3) Eric10 12492
5 (-) Squire 12411
6 (-2) Kjellus 12392
7 (-1) togo95 12227
8 (+1) vladimir 12068
9 (+2) StephenC2020 12056
10 (-) greenedge 12053

Not a ton of dramatic movement at the top - the top 3 are pretty spread out now, and Eric10's solid week had the biggest jump. After a couple of weeks of knocking at the door, StephenC2020 moves into the top 10, and search falls out by just 30 points.

It is not going to shake up the leaderboard a huge pile, but Merhawi Kudus is showing as zero points this year, so -200+ for the week.
I was surprised to drop two places having Talansky, Haas and Pardilla in my team, along with lesser points from Costa, Reichenbach, D Martin, Skuijns and a few more.. But getting -206 from Kudus is the reason why I guess.

I think it's fair to say we're looking at the first ever double winner of the CQ game, and the first triple podium finisher. With Kudus' missing points factored in, skidmark's lead seem pretty unassailable. The only conceivable challenger, jeroenk, doesn't have anyone who can make the difference at the worlds RR, and Jungels (Worlds TT) and A. Yates (Lombardia) are unlikely to make up the deficit of almost 500 points.

As for my team, I have mixed feelings about sitting in 6th (with Kudus points added). I'm looking at my best ever CQ result, but there were a few obvious mistakes I should have avoided. Hopefully I've learnt a lesson for next year. It also feels like my team has had all sorts of bad luck, with an excessive amounts of illnesses, injuries and DNFs. Or maybe it's just me paying extra attention to "my" riders and noticing these things more.

Overall, this doesn't look like a vintage edition of the CQ game, with quite a low points tally. Are anyone able to do the calculations for the best possible team for this season?

Sorry all, I help organize a music festival every year and it was last weekend, stayed out an extra day to clean up and didn't get back to anything until today. I did the new spreadsheet but then found out that last week's had to be fixed. snccdcno was kind enough to fix last week's, so I'll repost that tomorrow and then do the new update off of that one.

Okay, here is last week's redone spreadsheet (I saved over the old one so the old link should go there too): https://www.dropbox.com/s/0xy7t7xkhuooqjo/CQ%202016%20Update%2034.xlsx?dl=0

Update #35: Amsterdam is the centre of attention the week before the Eneco Tour

phew! Updates have been missing from CQ, names have been wrong, I've been late - sorry. Hopefully I'll get this one out and then the new one by Tuesday, and then we'll be on track until the end of the season. With the update of names for some of the Ethiopian riders, the last update had to be redone, but this one is just business as usual (I hope? Please tell me if there are any more CQ errors or changes). And just before the tour of Benelux started, it was the topically named Amsterdam who was the week's big winner.

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Amsterdam 415
2 karaev 387
3 Londonpat 362
4 Roubaix 359
5 Eric10 358

Team Amsterdam got most of their modest point total from unique pick Tony Gallopin, and not-at-all unique pick Fernando Gaviria; interestingly, their team also had Niccola Ruffoni, who (spoiler alert) just got a few points this week. We will see how that translates to the next update. Second place karaev had big points from Gaviria, but good supporting points from Cort, Fedi, Van Asbroeck and Dehaes. Londonpat makes the podium by inches with a mix of those same riders.

This Week's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 Sasquatch (+10)
2 Amsterdam (+9)
3 trackstand (+8)
4 Armchair cyclist (+7)
4 karaev (+7)

Sasquatch claims top honors here with points from Alaphilippe, Cort, Gaviria and Ruffoni, while Amsterdam doesn't quite pull off the double victory. trackstand, whose team took a big chance with high-priced talent in Nibali and Kwiatkowski, has a bright spot this season, rounding out the podium.

Green Jersey Competition

Rank Team Total
1 Emericlabordure 274
2 Eric10 212
3 Jancouver 175
4 freshman 173
4 Roda_na_Frente 173
6 Roubaix 169
7 Pentacycle 161
8 the_fool_on_the_hill 160
9 Slapshot 157
10 ironted 153

Second place Eric10 pulls back 22 points on Emericlabordure, but the mountain is still high, requiring 62 points to draw level - their team could have used 5 more points in the game to get to 3rd place and 30 green jersey points on the week, very close! Roubaix and the fool on the hill also move up in the top 10, the former capping off an impressive three-week run of scoring points, and totalling 73 in that time to rocket up the standings.

Polka Dot Jersey Competition

Rank Team Points
1 Emericlabordure 143
2 the_fool_on_the_hill 118
3 freshman 117
4 Eric10 96
5 ironted 94
6 Roubaix 93
7 EvansIsTheBest 84
8 scrooll07 80.3
9 hilltopfinisher 80
10 LosBrolin 78

Same leader here, and not much movement (ironically) at all in the top 10; 8th place scrool07 scored 3.3 points for tying 6 ways for 7th place, but that's it in the top 10 for points this week.

Top 10 Overall

7 (+1) Kazistuta 12490
8 (-1) togo95 12488
9 (+3) search 12372
10 (-) StephenC2020 12342

A quiet week for points, and equally quiet at the top of the charts, with no movement in the top 6 whatsoever. search makes the top 10, and vladimir plummets out with a jaw-dropping 13 points on the week.
