Tour de San Luis:
SOLER Marc
GAVIRIA Fernando
JAUREGUI Quentin
SAGAN Peter
POLJANSKI Pawel

Santos Tour Down Under:
VELITS Peter
PREIDLER Georg
VALGREN Michael
ARREDONDO Julián David

With Sagan and Gaviria in San Luis could get good points in the sprint stages but not so good team in Tour Down Under for me,maybe Arredondo could do something there

POZZATO Filippo
SANCHEZ Brayan

TDU
VELITS Peter
GERRANS Simon
VALGREN Michael

San Luis team is pretty decent, I expect Gaviria to score and Nibali and López could score point in the GC if they have any sort of a shape this time of year.

For TDU at least I didn't miss obvious pick Gerrans and I guess on this route Valgren can do something for the GC if he is in a decent shape, but you never know this time of the year.

San Luis
Gaviria
Lopez Moreno
only 2 popular picks so no particular interest.

TDU
Meintjes
Fernandez Ruben
Gerrans
Wippert
Arredondo
Zurlo
Battaglin

Meintjes and Fernandez could make a top 5 GC , Wippert for the mass sprint and Battaglin as a stage hunter

Only Gerrans for me this week. Next week will be better.

Tour de San Luis
QUINTANA ROJAS Dayer Uberney
CONTRERAS PINZON Rodrigo
GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
PERAUD Jean Christophe
LÓPEZ MORENO Miguel Ángel

Contreras, Peraud and López for the GC (hopefully), maybe Dayer for some free role and Gaviria for the sprints.

Santos Tour Down Under
DE MARCHI Alessandro
GERRANS Simon
VALGREN ANDERSEN Michael

Gerrans and Valgren for the GC and De Marchi stagehunting.

You are clearly out to jinx, kind Sir!

Valgren Andersen for the TdU-GC sounds like Fantasy-bias, surely they'll let McCarthy have a go in his only native race of the year?

As the sole honcho with Marezcko I'm counting on Viviani oversleeping his alarm clock on the day of Argentinian departure...

They can have more than 1 rider for GC ;)

Fair enough, let's agree that it's less likely than McCarthy being top dog for the week.

All races have a certain flavour of the nation they take part in, but my sentiment is that the TDU really is all Aussie all the time. Perhaps it's just the fact it takes place more or less in solitude which highlights it.

Td San Luis:
Andrew Talansky
Vincenzo Nibali
Angel Lopez
Janier Acevedo

These guys have the potential to do well, but they're probably not in the best of form right now. I'm hoping Talansky tries to insure he keeps a high status within his team; I'm hoping Acevedo tries since he's back with his old team, change of scenery, ect.

TdU:
Floris Gerts
Peter Velits
Simon Gerrans
Cameron Meyer

Gerrans and Meyers should both do pretty well...fingers crossed.

Just a small side note as this thread is teeming with the type of person who would fancy this:

We've got room to accomodate a further couple of managers in our season long keeper style fantasy league with salary cap at First Cycling. The draft for new managers takes place at 20:00 CEST today, ie. in 1 hour and 20 minutes. If it might tickle your fancy, the full set of rules is laid out here - message Logreid on the site if you would be interested in making a late entry:

Re:

Down Under
Gerrans
Valgren

Well, I won't be challenging for the TopSpots after this one. Almost everyone has Gerrans and Valgren might not do much besides helping, I fear.

San Luis
QUINTANA ROJAS Dayer Uberney
CONTRERAS PINZON Rodrigo
GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
NIBALI Vincenzo

There might be points and hopefully not only by Gaviria. Quintana and Contreras as wildcards and Nibali hopefully doing more than getting tan lines.

Tour de San Luis (18/01 - 24/01) 2.1
SOLER Marc
GAVIRIA Fernando
LOPEZ MORENO Miguel Angel

Looking forward to TDU, some points hopefully there, and San Luis is basically just Gaviria, and hoping maybe Lopez will be a good enough team mate to top-10 a stage to score some points. Same with Soler.

Oh yeah, can't wait for the racing to start!

Tropicale Amissa Bongo

Adrien Petit - he could maybe go for a sprint, but I'm thinking they'll be going for Gene here.

Tour Down Under

Simon Gerrans - good overall hope
Michael Valgren - dunno

That's it?!?! Two riders? Oh boy, this is gonna be a slow start to the season. Which is fine, the season is long, but it's fun to cheer early when the table is fluctuating so much.

San Luis

Yannick Martinez - I think he's the fastest rider on his team at this race.
Fernando Gaviria - he is definitely the fastest rider on his team.
Lawson Craddock
Andrew Talansky - these two should be the top 2 on their team for GC, but you never know form this early.
Eduard-Michael Grosu - let's see what he's got for a sprint in year two as a pro!
Matej Mohoric - can his end-of-season form be a sign of his starting form in year 3?
Miguel Angel Lopez - I feel like he is going to be unstoppable. He had 34 race days last year. 34! His stage races were: Catalunya (DNF), Turkey (15th). Suisse (7th), Burgos (4th). That is ridiculous for a neo-pro. He's gonna kill it this year.

So I guess I'll be watching the lowest-categorized, and most exciting, of the early season races. Can't wait!

Talansky starting this early in the season may turn him into a good pick. Last year, when I had him on my team, he didn't start until March and had very few race days before the TDF.

Maybe the new program will be good for him.

I've chosen him on the basis that he actually slightly has to defend his position as top dawg in the team for the Tour this year and subsequent with the additions of Rolland and Uran. I think the earlier start to the season isn't just about trying a new variation of the calendar to optimize preparations for the Tour.

I am quite sad that I only just discovered this game today. It is probably too late now to make a team?

Unfortunately it is yes. However, the "Emerging riders CQ game" hosted by Armchair cyclist is still open for entries. Bear in mind though that this version of the game has a duration of three years.

Also, you can still make your team and measure its progress against other teams for yourself. It may be a good practice for next year to see what is the best approach to picking riders who are able to accumulate as many points as possible.

Yeah, the season is still just starting but the picks have been revealed, so there's no more accepting teams. However, you can definitely make a team and track it - I can even add a tab for you on the spreadsheet to make it easy to follow and calculate, but I wouldn't include your team's results in the weekly or overall rankings and competitions. You're certainly welcome to participate in this thread too, even if you just have a 'ghost' team. Also, then you'd have your own tab ready for an official team entry next year!

And the Classics game is only weeks away, rapidly followed by the Giro game, and two more GT games to follow after that.

Don't know if I made the right choice in the end..feel a bit stupid now.

I picked Alaphillipe for 826 points, from the 'obvious' picks I don't have Tony Martin (624) and Gerrans (244). Together they make 868. 868 - 826 = 42. So let's say for those points missing I need to remove Stetina (50) from my team.

We'll see at the end of the year what the best would have been.

Two more comment on some picks, I really like the Geraint Thomas pick. I didn't think about him (I choose Kwiat as 'high priced pick'), but I think he can be a kind of Porte this year. Doing well in one week races, maybe picking up some points in the classics, picking points in a GT. Can score 1500 for sure.

Dennis (had him last year) is also a very nice one! wants to focus more on one week races, which he can do really well in my opinion. Plus two mayor TT's this year. Good pick.

Curious about the Alaphilippe pick. Where do you think his extra points are going to come from. Had a good classics campaign last year, so I don't see him picking up more there or do you think he can?
Do you see him evolving into a top 10 in major stage races?

I didn't pick him because he had mono late last season. I wasn't sure how that would effect him this season. Pretending he didn't have that, he could have had a much better season last year. He didn't have a second wave of top form last year... If he's able to reach top form and peak twice then he should score pretty high....imo :)
