Just realised that I have Contreras Pinzon as well as Bobridge.

However, pretty sure that missing Gerrans and Gaviria will make it tough to contend in this game, and a lot of my middle-of-the-road picks are just crap.

Petit wins another one. He might be the Kump of this year...

Or he will lead out Coquard the rest of this season. But still a nice point haul in Gabon

Yeah, I've been burned a few times by guys who scored a bunch of points in January, and then I mentally scaled up what they could do for the year, but then it turned out that was the most points they score in one go all season. I'll take it for what it is - a good early season surprise. I picked Petit because I thought he'd get some chances in second-tier races (like this) and some French 1.1 or 1.HC placings when he wasn't leading out Coquard in the bigger races. If he's got this boost at the start of the season that's great, but he's not gonna run amok like Marko Kump last year, I don't think. If he outscores his best previous season (low 300s) I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I really cannot believe I missed Petit. 300+ points for three straight seasons, then 51.

Already getting a bit dispirited about this season. Forgot about Gerrans, missed the news on Kung, Mcarthy and Woods were omitted from the team at the last moment. Too much sentiment and not enough science in the selection, meaning 104 on the popularity table. Will be well chuffed with that as the final result. Here is the team in horribly formatted, alphabetical team order

The thing about Kung though, is that he missed like 3 months last year due to his Giro crash and still got 324 points. This year, his illness might just translate to being a bit behind to start the season. But if he's back full on by March and has a full season, even extrapolating for last year he'd be bound to get more points. Give him a year of development and improvement and he still could be an excellent pick. It's still early going.

Yes but there is also Rio, he will focus on track. I considered him despite the track focus but when the news of his illness came out I decided against him (but what do I know)

Srsly, how could I miss Gerrans? How could I miss someone with this cq statistics:
2t3kZbr.gif

I just can't believe how stupid I was. With him this week actually would have been pretty good for me, but now I had some good picks and still will loose loads of points to the other players because they all have god damn gerrans

This may be his best race of season, and the rest of the season may be mediocre. I can't see him winning Amstel as Matthews is OGE's leader there, same for MSR. As for Liege, I seriously doubt he will win again, or that ether ever will be as boring a race as that again. He may win a Canadian classic, but that's about it this season. A stage or two at Catalunya maybe. He is 35, after all.

He does not need to win any other race to get to 1000 points. He is a wheelsucker extraordinaire, and unless there are again some major injuries, he will score a bunch of points just sitting in the pack and sucking on wheels.

He already scored 383 points, costing just 220. The truth is that there is no other race so generous in rewarding so many "easy" points.

Personally, I'm slightly disappointed that my top dawg Rohan Dennis did not score more of those "easy" points. Well, perhaps it is better that he is not flying at this moment, and he will be peaking later for WC and the Olympics

Nice ride by Lopez today. Too bad he is on Astana otherwise, he would be on my team as well :(
I dropped him too, I didn't believe he could shine among strong presence of mountain goats in Astana.
And also, I blame myself for not picking Petit, he was on my short list but I replaced him for some stupid reason :(

Don't worry so much, there are literally tens of riders that will have great year whom many or even all of us have missed. Last year I did not have EBH (429->1068, on 94 teams) and still achieved 5th place. And 5 teams in final Top 10 missed Kump (28->534, on 34 teams). It is very difficult to make a perfect team without any weak point. And don't forget that you invested those 244 points in someone else, who will hopefully score you points at some other time of the year.

I also had Petit but eventually could not find enough place for him. But I would not call reasons for omitting him stupid. There were several very valid reasons: he did not show signs of improvement over the last few years; in 2015 he did not achieve many good results even if he did not have to ride for Bouhanni. And his new team was declaring giving full support to Coquard. Of course I knew he would likely improve his 2015 score, but there were many similarly appealing riders in this price category. So it's just yet to be seen how important pick he will eventually be, although after winning this Bongo race it is perhaps a bit more likely that he will outscore some other riders with similar cost that we have selected.

With the golden combination of Gerrans, McCarthy, Dayer, Gaviria, Lopez and Petit, I expect the team of togo95 to be pretty solidly cemented on top of the leaderboard this week.

Yeah, this week was really good for me. Hopefully my team can continue in a similar fashion over the whole year, but I don't have high hopes.

Had a decent week with Gerrans, Dayer Quintana and Lopez. Unfortunately, Gaviria and Contreras crashed in San Luis and Barguil was one of the Giant-Alpecin victims.

Next races:
Mallorca
ROSON GARCIA Jaime
LANGEVELD Sebastian
MULLEN Ryan
KUDUS GHEBREMEDHIN Merhawi
DE PLUS Laurens
VERVAEKE Louis
BETANCUR GOMEZ Carlos Alberto (will he start?)

Every point is a bonus

Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
DE MARCHI Alessandro
GERRANS Simon
HAIG Jack

All three have a chance to score some points.

I really did not expected to have all 3 GC winners of the first 3 important races of the season. Al 3 are already in profit which is amazing! I also got points from Acevedo, Vuillermoz , Lopez, Gaviria and Wippert... I hope for a Top 10 in the next update!

Now I'm really excited for Sam Bennett participating in the Mallorca Challenge where a lot of points can be won by a fast guy like him...

I'm a little bit disappointed that Talansky DNSed away from a guaranteed 12 points before the last San Luis stage. Got fever overnight, apparently.

Petit and Dayer were two of the riders I considered most strongly among those I left out. I refuse to be bummed by that yet, though. I don't think either will end up being a must-have pick, although both can be very good ones, especially Petit.

The one I'm currently regretting the most is Westra. I think he can be good this year, promising signs already in TDU, and a very encouraging interview with him the day after the game deadline. Had it come a day earlier, he would've been in my team. I'm a bit worried my Farrar pick. He's overdoing the whole domestique thing. Hopefully he can survive the winds in Qatar and get a good result.

Farrar is finished imo. I highly doubt he'll ever be in the top 10 of a race.
