Update #2: Jakob747 just Strong enough to hold off Pithie performance on nbfc1962's team
Racing continued in Australia and kicked off fully in Europe this week, with the Cadel race the biggest point-getter on offer, but the Mallorca races offering a number of opportunities. That meant the best teams had to get support from a variety of riders.
This Week's Top Scorers
Jakob747 takes the week by a single point from game newbie nbfc1962, coming right down to the wire. Jakob747 eked out the victory due to strength in number; their team had no fewer than 7 riders clearing 35 points on the week. Leading the charge was Corbin Strong (118 points, 3 teams), who didn't get a victory but made a chunk of his 586 cost back early in the year. Lennert Van Eetvelt (105, 10) also got almost 25% of his value back with good performances in Mallorca, and the likes of Tobias Johannessen (56, 7), Kevin Vauquelin (40, 5), Luke Lamperti (40, 39), Egan Bernal (38, 43) and Pierre Gautherat (36, 4) pushed Jakob over the line.
nbfc1962 had a more top-heavy team contributing to their impressive week, with first-time winner Laurence Pithie (212, 2), Alexander Vlasov (136, 2) and Van Eetvelt making up the bulk of the 495 points. escartin lands in third a little ways back thanks to the likes of Girmay (89, 48), Magnier (80, 21) and Dainese (76, 3) leading the way.
Note: normally I have the High Movers ranking every week, but something is not working with the spreadsheet formulas. I'll have to tweak it when I have a second and update later, but I just didn't want to delay this update any more.
Green Jersey Competition
Last week's winner HoudiniCycling lands in 14th this week, which gives their team 4 points in this competition. Jakob's 45 points for the win are good for 2nd overall, while the two weekly runners-up tie for third.
Top 10 Overall
With a top 15 this week to add to the big win last week, HoudiniCycling remains in first place, with a 141 point lead over armchairclimber in 2nd, and 14 more to Jakob747 in third. Those three are the only teams with over 1000 points so far, which is a reminder that it's very early going!
This week, even more riders get their seasons underway, with three stage races happening in Saudi Arabia (2.1 Saudi Tour), France (2.1 Etoile de Besseges) and Spain (2.Pro Valenciana race).
