The 2025 CQ Ranking Manager Thread

Page 33 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
So anyone picking those who are now 2nd to 16th were overcharged?

Maybe, but that wouldn't be a problem, as that wouldn't mean being above budget.

That situation is completely irrelevant, because the rules say that the CQ scores on the 31st of December are the basis for the cost of the riders.

What about the other way around; regarding going into budget?

If only DCU had solved this issue earlier! Don't they know we are dealing with serious matters here?

How is there another way around? The scores at the 31st of December aren't one way or the other. They're exactly as they are.

What a rider will need to get to get into profit... (dunno why I wrote budget before)

I get that the cost remains the old one - because it would be a bit harsh otherwise - but what about profit? The riders are all listed with their new scores, so isn't that the system will use?

The riders are listed with their 2024 scores from the 31st of December update, as that is their cost in the game. The '2024 results' tab in the spreadsheet isn't being updated.

If you care about whether a rider exceeds his amended 2024 score on the CQ website rather than the score that was used as his price, then you're free to do so.

I underestimated effect of departure of 2k+ Hirschi's points from UAE. Nice Morgado pick for his owners. Also Covi's pick came year earlier for me it seems.
I didn’t feel confident enough in predicting who amongst their young talents would get the closest thing resembling the Hirschi points farming schedule hence why I picked none of them except Del Toro.

Even if he has raised level in harder terrain, which remains to be seen, 11th place was definitely not what he and his team were riding for today. He would of course have had to finish in the top 4 to get any points, and Groenewegen didn't achieve that either, so all hope is not lost yet, but it isn't exactly a great sign.
Well, he didn't really open up and sprint fully by the looks of it so I don't think 11th is a benchmark for his speed.

I tried saying this in the race thread, but apparently he should just retire. :D

Strange thing, though, is that Degenkolb offers no explanation for Jakobsen's non-sprint in his post-race interview with Wielerflits. He just says that overall it was a good start and that almost everything went according to plan. Sounds a bit like Monty saying Operation Market Garden was 90% successful.

Maybe he wasn't asked specifically about Jakobsen's sprint. It looked a bit strange.

I got a few intresting riders in Alula today.
Bregnhöj, Kulset (Johannes), Federov with a combine pick of 10 other teams.
Hoping they can be top 10 in GC in the end. Surprise they weren't more picked.

I believe in Kulset but I can imagine that since he was slightly more popular last season with 13 picks and he only broke even that there might be some skepticism and that there are other youngsters to take a similar punt on.

Bregnhöj is not really something I look at for a pick. A career conti rider, who is still riding at conti level does not give confidence that he'll suddenly get a large boost in points. Even if he got 200 points that would still be at the limit for someone riding for an obscure conti team that isn't a devo team for the big guys. I would at least want my picks in that range to have the chance of getting 5-10x on their points if the stars align and that requires more access to higher scoring races.

Fedorov is a bit of a gamble as well. He hasn't really shown any progression in points but at the same time with the way Astana is going at races so far this year with everyone trying to place in points then it might still end up being a decent pick. I picked Kajamini from Astana for this very reason and I also had Higuita in my draft for a long time but ended up dropping him.

he looked down on the bike a few times so i think mechanical rumors may be true. If not, it's first race of the season and weird things happen, so i wouldn't panic either way, but if it continues he would be replaced by Van Uden quickly in this train. So i guess he is on relatively short leash there.

Or is it like when a Tennis player looks at his racket after a bad shot?

I was pretty confident that Morgado wouldn't have had his calendar built about being a domestique in big races so he seemed a pretty good candidate to do a Hirshi like season.

Thanks Hatherly. Seems like I got one name right at least. Can't say I'm too please with the rest of my team at the moment (special mention for Christen managing to finish 5th out of the leading group of three riders in the last Mallorca race).

Ya, Hatherly is not a name I even heard of before. Maybe a good idea to have a look at MTB and riders crossing over for this game. Might be an expensive oversight.
Vader scored big from two races in 2023, in pretty weak fields. Who I have picked this season lol

Maybe this could be a similar one.

However, really hard to value this performance looking at the top 10 on this stage or project what he will be able to do for the rest of the season.

Could be in profit after this race and that is good start for his managers.

'Fulltime mountainbikers haven't had much success in their first seasons switching to the road for the past decade or so, what are the odds of not picking Hatherly backfiring?' - me, less than a month ago
Sounds familiar:
I did look at Hatherly when he was announced, but none of the big MTB names have made it in road cycling recently, so I didn't quite see what would be different about him.
We can cry together. :D

Already is a bigger success than Koretzky, Colombo, Schurter.

I only really considered Hatherly for my ERG team, but left him out in the end. Now he looks like the next Kim Le Court.

I did have Kepplinger on my list for this game though, but since he was up against Welsford for a spot, he didn't make the cut.
