I was going to say that him showing up guarantees the young riders of his team also get to ride the race but they would have probably been invited even without him.

Yep, it was still fine, he had to overtake either on the left or the right, and it was a natural move. That said, it did prevent Ewan from opening his sprint and possibly did have an effect on the final result unlike a certain Russian yesterday
