Nobody goes to the beach in the winter in France - I can guarantee you that. Even in Spain it's pretty cold.

Your technique keeps improving... pretty soon no one will even realize you are trolling.

The French have long had a self righteous and nationalistic attitude to the Tour de France, so it's not surprising that people take offense to that. Their training effort has also lacked the intensity of other teams, which must be a cultural thing. Sylvain Chavanel admitted that he only finally trained hard near the end of his time at AG2R-La Mondiale..

BanProCycling said:
He was offered a contract with AG2R-La Mondiale when he was at Cofidis, but knew another French team just wouldn't train hard enough, so went to Quick step instead. That's why AG2R was in my mind - thanks for highlighing that. ;)

BanProCycling said:
Stephen Roche was slagging him off about it last year in the Eurosport commentary after the Tour. After the stage he won. Maybe you can find it on google. ;)

See your problem here is that you started dismissing all French teams lacked the training intensity, you then say that is the reason Chavanel went to QS.

What has Roches comments about Chavenal got to do with the "lack of training intensity" within French teams?

i find this thread fascinating i am really enjoying it, :D
one side makes a stupid comment
the other side asks for a link or facts to back up said comment
it is of course rejected with a "you're not the boss of me:p"
So the other parties oblige by providing facts & links that are counter to the original comment
and it goes on & on & on
i finally figured why scribe is a clown he makes me laugh
and so does BPC
I feel like i am watching two 2nd graders arguing with a group of teachers on the playground, i mean this is crazy
"he said it just before he signed with AG2R"
"Ummm he never signed with AG2R"
well i am sure he said it whoever he signed with, thats when he said it, i dont have a link because i am not anal with things like facts like some people on this board, i just believe what i hear from people i like, i dont need to know the truth.LMAO!

It's not a problem for me. Is it a problem for you?
Roche was criticising Chavenal's attitude for saying he had not trained hard until recently and linked to the French work ethic sometimes. He might have criticised the French teams - I remember him criticising their general pompous attitude before. Everyone does that. Maybe you should write to him if you're interested in his views.

Thanks to Scribe backing me up with a link to another interview where Chavenal basically admits to it, but in more diplomatic terms.

Actually I was looking for the quote where S.Roche made a claim that Chavenal went to QS instead of AG2R because of their "work ethic".
Roches son appears to be doing well with their lazy attiude.

This is Chavanals quote - thanks Scribe: unfortunatley it doesnt say anything to back up your argument that he didnt go to AG2R because they lacked "training intensity"...

I had other options as well. Professionally, it's an experience that can only do me good. I had the chance to sign for three years with AG2R-La Mondiale but I had the feeling that I wasn't going to develop enough. I have always raced in France and, in my heart, some experience abroad has excited me for some time. I therefore decided to take the step and Patrick Lefévère's advances completely persuaded me.

We all KNOW the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plane - I think it's the Airbus that gets the most rain. I believe in certain parts of Detroit it 'rains men' - or so I have heard. Claude also Rains when he is not invisible of course. And Usain Bolt is the raining 100m and 200m World Champion - so he does a great deal of raining too. The longest raining monarch was actually Queen Victoria.

Although if you live in Deep Cove you know all about rain.

I hope that help clear things up ;) gosh I do believe the sun has just come out here well that does it for me.

Any other drivel anybody would like me to comment on? I am offering a free service for one evening only! :)

sure it was not Dr Van Mol and Eddy Viaene's magic potions, aka the elixer of the wondrous hypodermic

post hoc justification for results.

He should to it pre, like Garmin with Vande Velde and Wiggins.

No I am afraid it doesnt put me at ease at all.

I have above your original quote - I would appreciate some more information to back up your claim that Chavanal only trained hard near the end of his time with Cofidis - not AG2R.

Also Nicholas Roche was born in France and has lived and raced in France for most of his life - he has always been on French teams.
He is part of the Irish team as his Dad is from Ireland.

Yes - if you could help me make sense of BPC or TheArbiters argument that because one French rider goes to another team that it means that all French teams are lazy!!

.... Actually don't - your next post will be your 500th.... no point wasting it.

That's ok Susan won't mind. And while you are letting her know could you also tell her what the topic was as I was struggling to work it out ;) It seemed to go all meteorological at one point...

I am not trolling - you have made the claims and I have just asked you to back them up

Troll: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community.

You mentioned earlier that Chavanel had not trained until just before he left AG2R (sic). You have not backed that up.
The quote from Chavanel mentions develop - he may mean getting a better opportunity as a team leader - or dare I say it that the team has a better 'programme" in place.

Again you mention Stephan Roche - why would he allow his son live and ride in France and then join 3 Pro Tour teams unless he had some faith in their systems. As I said a link would clear up the issue.

Am, ya - it was Bassons said that Hinault shoud go to Girona and Lance said that he was wrong to say that and he should leave the Tour...
Hinault agreed and said "nice" and Lance took that as an insult as when he was there it rained on a Tuesday....

Its all on twitter.

It has been a fun one. I almost wish I had been here the whole time, but alas real life got in the way and I am only rejoining the discussion (if that is what it is) now and catching up with all these interesting posts.
Anyway while I have you on the line do you think that maybe we could petition for a kind of a non cycling related forum. A place where we could discuss whatever comes into our little heads, like music, movies, politics, the weather, whatever, without being interupted just for going off the cycling topic. It couldn't go any worse than this turkey here.

I'll have a word about he Cafe idea - not sure what the feeling is - but I can find out.

I was half thinking we could could just use the Cyclo-X forum as it doesn't seem to get much traffic  (that was a joke please don't inundate me with 'I am anti-cyclo-X posts)

I 'll get back to you...

I thought that was awesome how you were talking about what I was typing probably at the same time I was typing it.
Has anyone else noticed (those of you who don't have him on ignore) how when PBC really gets pinned down he just vanishes for a while. Later he kind of slinks back in and starts up again. It is almost like he has to go recharge his troll batteries.

BTW I happen to do alot of cyclocross course designing where I live so...watch it bub. :)

Being honest that is how I was treating this thread- the OP asked a question and a few people know the story answered the original question.

This thread should have died after a couple of pages. But then there is a claim made..... and hey let the fun begin.

We have the General Forum- which is under utilised imo.
But a place in the Clinic for OT points could be a good idea so that they dont disrupt the original topic of the thread.

It's a good job you're here. I think a few of the boys have been trolling me tonight. I don't know why I rise to it. They will scarper now a moderator has turned up. I better get some kip too.

Oh yeah thats believable:rolleyes:
I imagine you have memorized the old Monty Python Argument sketch
A=Arbiter/Ban Pro Cycling
M=Dr Maserati et al
a slice
M: Oh look, this isn't an argument.
A: Yes it is.
M: No it isn't. It's just contradiction.
A: No it isn't.
M: It is!
A: It is not.
M: Look, you just contradicted me.
A: I did not.
M: Oh you did!!
A: No, no, no.
M: You did just then.
A: Nonsense!
M: Oh, this is futile!
A: No it isn't.
M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!

A: Yes it is!
M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
(short pause)
A: No it isn't.
M: It is.
A: Not at all.
M: Now look.
A: (Rings bell) Good Morning.
M: What?
A: That's it. Good morning.
M: I was just getting interested.
A: Sorry, the five minutes is up.
M: That was never five minutes!
A: I'm afraid it was.
M: It wasn't.
Pause
A: I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to argue anymore.
M: What?!
A: If you want me to go on arguing, you'll have to pay for another five minutes.
M: Yes, but that was never five minutes, just now. Oh come on!
A: (Hums)
M: Look, this is ridiculous.
A: I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid!
M: Oh, all right.
(pays money)
A: Thank you.
short pause
M: Well?
A: Well what?
M: That wasn't really five minutes, just now.
A: I told you, I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid.
M: I just paid!
A: No you didn't.
M: I DID!
A: No you didn't.
M: Look, I don't want to argue about that.
A: Well, you didn't pay.
M: Aha. If I didn't pay, why are you arguing? I Got you!
A: No you haven't.
M: Yes I have. If you're arguing, I must have paid.
A: Not necessarily. I could be arguing in my spare time.
M: Oh I've had enough of this.
A: No you haven't.
M: Oh Shut up.
