Had to take Kitty to the vet Saturday a.m. because she was sneezing a lot, and upper respiratory infections are nothing to fool with. She got a shot.

Took her back this morning for a follow-up check and shot, and she got a clean bill of health. (Yeah!)

Brought her home and she promptly celebrated by bringing me another mouse. That makes 5 in eight days now!

Right now she is at the stage of, "this mouse isn't much fun any more, it only moves when I hit it" .... ugh.

Our lot did 8 birds (1 alive), and 2 mice (1 alive) over the course of the weekend. They went on a spree.

Not sure if that one is real, but pretty funny.

It sure is bird-hunting or watching season around here too!

The birds built a nest in our xmas wreath so I can't take it down, now. At least it is out of reach of Sweetpea but she loves to sleep in this pot and watch them.....

:) Cute.

Here's a fun little story. Our cats chased a bird into the house this morning through the cat door! That was quite the thrill! The poor little thing flew into the curtain at the front window, and the cats were going crazy with excitement. I was able to finally get them into rooms, took a soft blanket and caught the bird and took it out front to see if it was okay. It was and immediately flew away with no problem. What a morning!

wow Alpe, that is crazy, what a way to start your day! :)

I have a similar tale!..one morning last fall I went downstairs at 6a.m. and walked to the door to let our cat in, as she had refused to come in the night before. She ran in and as I bent down to say hello she dropped a live little mouse at my feet! The poor thing ran under the vacuum cleaner that was sitting out at the bottom of the stairs. A few minutes later my 16yr old came walking downstairs--- I had grabbed a colander and told him to lift up the vacuum as I would slap the colander over the mouse to trap him. It worked! I slid a flat cutting board underneath, lifted the mouse and started toward the door, but the mouse slipped out , jumped down and ran into our baseboard heater under our front window. I could hear him running up and down in his hiding place, but couldn't reach him. With no hope to get him I decided to open the front door and see if he was smart enough to smell the fresh air and make a break....as I sat on our couch across the room I watched his little head pop up a couple of times, just like in a cartoon--- he made his way toward the door finally and slipped out into safety! That is NOT how I like to wake up and start my day! :D

OK, here's one for you. New next-door neighbors moved in last weekend, with two cats, one who goes out and one who stays in.

Wed. evening 10 p.m., couple outside on front entry, outdoor cat on leash, indoor cat held in arms. Two dogs, unleashed but with walking with owner, came by, saw the cats and ran to them. (Young dogs, by the way.)

Leashed cat tore loose and disappeared. Indoor cat panicked and ripped up both of couple badly enough that they both had to go to hospital.

Indoor cat ran back into house. Leashed cat was discovered an hour later hiding in our garden. I actually had to getup out of bed and help rescue and return her.

Neighbors are considering legal action against dog owner, since we have leash laws.

I have an eldery cat, 20 years old, that was an outdoor cat until he found my gravy train. He was left behind when his owner sold their house and I rented it. That was 16 years ago.

I now own a house in a different area, near the coast. I noticed while on a ride that there is construction starting in the empty field in front of the house and seagulls and other birds were catching mice in the field that is being torn up. When I returned from the ride, took the bike to the backyard to clean it. I usually let the cat out on the grass. He followed me outside and was sitting on the grass ignoring me. A mouse ran under the gate and right in front of my cat. The cat watched the mouse. The mouse stopped about 2 inches from my cat front paws. It seemed to be 5 minutes before either of them moved, was really about a minute of them just staring at each other. My cat lost the staring contest. He screamed and then jumped over the mouse and ran inside, upstairs and under the bed....I feel so protected!

All of you, those are great cat stories. Susan's story reminds me of one cat we used to have (who's now in cat heaven), but in reverse dominance. My mom came to visit once with her German Sheppard. So Shepp comes into the back yard where our cat was sitting nearby watching this "intrusion" into his territory. Dog sees cat and takes off toward him. Cat hunches back and launches a full frontal assault on the dog when the dog got within reach. Dog turns tail to run, with cat cashing the dog around the back yard. Every time the dog tried to turn and face the cat, the cat got a piece of the dog's nose. This kept up for about a half-minute. Mom just said, "Oh, this isn't going to work". So she ended up with a hotel room for her and the dog.

When I was growing up, we had a mostly cocker spaniel dog and a cat, who tolerated the dog but not much more. Until one day.

A family down the street adopted a half-wild german shepherd mix. One day when I was walking our dog, the shepherd attacked him. The fight was quickly broken up, but our cat had seen it.

Our house had two large fir trees at the sidewalk which more or less formed an arch. The cat got in there and waited. The shepherd one day calmly walked through as if to say, I'm the boss here.

The cat dropped out of the tree on to his back and dug in with her claws. He took off screaming, cat on board. She rode him for about a block and then jumped off and calmly walked home.

That dog never walked on our side of the street again and ran away whenever he saw our cat.

VERY funny Susan!!

I love everyone's stories...
This is one of my favorite threads. Lots of great pix and personalities here

:)

Here's a not so happy story. One of our cats brought another bird into the house today. I rescued this one as well, but it was hurt and died a few minutes later. I felt pretty bad for the little guy. Maybe it's false solace, but Mrs. Alpe says at least he didn't get eaten, or die alone.

A couple of years ago we had a big Monarch butterfly migration come through.. At any given time there were 3 or 4 in the yard...My cat "toes" (pictured above) camped out under some bushes and was catching them.. I ignored him for a few hours and then checked on him and he was still under the same bush. He had about a dozen butterflies he was keeping herded under the bush. I picked each one up and made them fly away..All of them did except for one that flew in circles for a bit. He pretty well murders lizards though..Kind of hard on mice too..

That with the butterflies reminds me of thi story. Several years ago we were at a little zoo/nature park at Land Between the Lakes, Kentucky. My husband was looking at the wildcat in its cage, when the cat jumped up and grabbed a hummingbird out of the air and ate it!
