Good to hear otherwise you'd have to go out there with a broom, sweep away the snow and make a "poopy place"!
What we won't do for our dogs, right? lol! I'm glad she did eventually get used to the snow because there's still some on the ground today. Thank goodness for other wildlife in the backyard (squirrels!), otherwise I would have never convinced her to go out there.

On a different note Tandy appears to enjoy car rides, she always wants to go with me when I leave the house. She's been very good when sitting in the backseat, but being she's such a snuggler I haven't played around with having her sit in the front passenger seat. (Don't want us to get into an accident if she were to suddenly require a tummy rub.) Where do you guys keep your dogs when driving?

Depends on which the size of the dog, the vehicle, and number of people in the car.
-Buddy on my wife's lap in the passenger seat, or on longer trips in his bed on the passenger floor.
--My wife was travelling and it was 100 degrees all day so in the evening I would drive a few miles to a shady park so that Buddy could play in the grass. He was OK siting on the passenger seat for that short drive, but it still made me nervous.

-Labs in the extended cab of the PU (don't currently have either of those).

A burning question for fellow canine owners - seeing as most of us appear to be the proud owners of mutts have any of you had yours DNA tested to see what breeds s/he might be?

We just ordered a DNA test from Amazon for $63 (the cheapest one!!) for Tandy... that she is partly Chihuahua is pretty clear, but the rest is kind of a delightful mystery. I think she must have some kind of Terrier in her (maybe a Rat Terrier because she likes to hunt rats and mice in the backyard), who knows?

I don't know how accurate these DNA tests are and it's supposed to take three weeks to get the results once you mail the sample in... basically I'm just doing it for *** and giggles, and I will let you know how thing turn out! :)

If you get DNA testing for your dog law enforcement may get access to that data..and if a major crime is committed, by a 3 legged mutt, no way are we making it easier for Roubaix( Ruby) to be apprehended..

Understood. Buddy is in the Punk Rock category and that's all anyone needs to know! :)

Frankly I don't have much faith in these relatively cheap DNA tests you can buy online, I mean if it turns out Tandy is half Irish Setter or English Sheepdog I'll have some serious doubts. Greyhound I'd almost buy because she runs and moves like one, but any other hairy huge breed and I'll know the test is total b.s.

Buddy claims to be a Mongolian Mastiff of the Punk Rock variety!

This is a picture of a Tibetan Mastiff, which is evidently even bigger than a Mongolian Mastiff! (The Tibetan can reach up to 150 pounds, that is more than half the professional peloton. lol!) The little dog I imagine is more Buddy's size. 🤣

When I was a kid we had Newfoundlands. They were really amazing dogs, but that is a lot of dog...too much for me in my life now.

I had to google the Newfoundlands' weight, it said males can reach up to 180 pounds. Holy crap, that is not a dog, that is a pony or maybe an extra in a Star Wars movie. Just look at that face though, I just want to mush it! :D

Our biggest male was 140-145, and most of the females were 110-120. They were hiking or swimming most days so they were lean and ripped. Most of the 160 plus ones are pretty fat. My mom was a really picky breeder so our dogs were very sound (hips, hearts, eyes, mouths, coat...). I have so many great memories of them, but pretending like I was drowning in the Priest River in April, with ice chunks floating past while training for early summer water trials is not one of them! :)

Yes! I've been meaning to post the results but just haven't gotten around to it because life...

So evidently Tandy is 34% Chihuahua, no surprise there. But then she's also, and supposedly, 17% Lhasa Apso, 17% American Pit Bull Terrier, 17% Shih Tzu, and 15% Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

I'll take the American Pit Bull Terrier because she has the coloring and the thickish neck, and the Corgi because she has a long body. But the Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso I'm not really seeing, she's much too athletic to be a spoiled pillow dog!

I'm taking the results with a grain of salt, and because I have a different nickname for her practically every day for now I call her my broccoli-lovin' Pit Bull because she really likes cooked broccoli! 🤣

Thank you for asking, are you curious what mix Buddy might be?

Fair enough. It wasn't actually my idea to have Tandy DNA tested but I went along with it, I would have been happy just knowing she is part Chihuahua and part trash lady because she loves to rummage through trash! 🤣

On a more serious note she probably likes trash because coming from the streets it's probably the only thing she could find to eat. So I don't begrudge her having an affinity for garbage.

We refer to Buddy as Hoover because he will eat anything and everything, probably for the same reason you point out, he was on the streets for a fair bit of his life.

It's funny how, even though we feed our pups aplenty, they still go looking for more. They certainly have some battle scars from having lived on the streets...

I actually had to doggie-proof the cabinet doors under the kitchen sink where we keep our kitchen trash because Tandy learned right away how to open them and then she'd go foraging for leftovers. This was just too messy... if I leave the cabinet doors open now it's like opening the gates of heaven to her! 🤣

But seriously, I'm so glad and relieved to know all of us on this forum who own a rescue dog are able to provide our pups with a good home. It's heartbreaking to think there are just so many unwanted dogs out there who are not so lucky.
