Italy seems to love that type of fastman that can win those Po Valley one-day races and in flat stages in second tier and minor WT races, but is found out in more or less any race with genuine climbing. Quaranta, Furlan, Napolitano, Guardini, Pelucchi, Mareczko, just to name a few... I mean, people would mock Kenny van Hummel's climbing for his 2009 Tour exploits, but Furlan had long missed the time cut before Kenny was gone.

Quaranta was always more of a track guy and he's now also a track coach at Colpack (he worked with Ganna, Lamon and Consonni in the past), his Son is also a sprinter in the u23 ranks.
The big problem is that all the Italian u23 races for sprinter are pretty much flat crits, so the one dimensional specialists can pick up lots of wins without having to adapt/work on their weaknesses. The rude awakening comes once they have turned pro.

some teams signed bigger names than Ineos. check BORA: Bennett, Archbold, Hindley, Mullen, Higuita, Vlasov, Van Poppel.

You have to wonder if Bike Exchange has pivoted it's goals when you have climbers Chaves, Nieve and Zeits leaving the team because they were not offered contracts.

You have to wonder if Bike Exchange has pivoted it's goals when you have climbers Chaves, Nieve and Zeits leaving the team because they were not offered contracts.

Yet they didn't replace them with other climbers and kept Yates.

Seriously, they have let a lot of good riders go and haven't replaced them, especially on the women's team. They need to hit the ground running next year or it's going to be even worse than last year.

Probably the main problem for BikeExchange is budget? Especially compared to other teams.

I wouldnt be surprised if Simon goes to one of the bigger teams next year to have a real shot at glory once more.
