No idea on anything about the other two, but I think Nathan Smith is the brother of DSMs new rider, Abi Smith.

Yeah, I can see why you think so:

Maybe he‘s the Nathan Smith who won a silver medal in the Sprint at the 2015 Biathlon Worlds

Maybe 'Nathan Smith' is a rather common name. This Nathan Smith - the Novo Nordisk one - is from 2000. So, bit young to have participated in the 2015 Biathlon Worlds.

The men's team might be folding, but the women are still going strong:

Why is Romy Kasper pointing at people? I have no idea.

Well Grossetête is also proudly presenting a jersey she won't be wearing anymore.
Solid signings for HPH, but the big story is of course that mushroom lover Ruth Edwards (née Winder) will ride for the team as well.

Also the other Nathan Smith is Canadian, not British, but it was the first thing that came to my mind too, though after the Riley Sheehan thing that seemed to get ManicJack's back up despite it actually being something that made me predisposed to like the guy, that's probably no surprise - especially bearing in mind here we're talking about biathlon, which it may surprise you to learn that I like.

Colombians for next year in the WT. The only one that I am surprised about is Harold Tejada. I thought I heard a commentator in the past races say that He already has a new contract with Astana. He had a decent year.

"Making a joke that I didn't find funny and saying something that wasn't critical, but I perceived it was, of somebody who was born in the same country as me shows you're a terrible human being"

For somebody who says they lurked as long as they did, you should have been well aware that I will beat a dead horse of a joke way down to the bone.

Is that certain or are they only going by publicly confirmed contracts? I would find very surprising Astana let Tejada go and no one picks him up. He was one of the few decent riders in their 2023 team.

That really doesn't make it less tedious.

Just when RhD makes her this year/last year corrections.

Who is that quote attributed to? As far as the lurking goes, I generally skipped over all posts longer than a few paragraphs. 😉

I think they are more certain than anybody else. In fact, they might know that Tejada has a contract but do not publish until they make it official or there is an official source.

I guess the thing is, I don't really care if people don't like one of my joking comments, find them tedious, or tell me so. It was more the deliberate mischaracterising of the intention that stood out to m - MJ has a direct personal connection to Riley, so perhaps he saw it as an insult (certainly the way he responded gave that impression), but most of us don't have direct personal connections to people in the péloton in far flung parts of the world.

To me, the fact I did a double take when seeing his name when looking up results in the Joe Martin Stage Race, an event which gets zero coverage over here, because I knew that name from before (and after wracking my brain realised it was from his hockey namesake) was something that made him stand out, made him more memorable among that sea of names, and made me keener to keep an eye out for him.

I mean, hell, the first time around it wasn't even really much of a joke, it was no different to QueenStagiare's post about the biathlon Nathan Smith above; the second time I made any such comment (at the start of his own thread, the same as when the "Mauri Thread" was opened, my first post was about Melcior Mauri instead of the intended Mauri Vansevenant), MJ jumped at me about how this somehow showed I was a terrible person.

Again, call me unfunny, tedious, repetitive and a blowhard all you like, and half the time I'll probably even agree with you, but it wasn't even meant to be critical.

Astana seems to be playing the Ineos card of leaving it very late to announce their contract renewals. CQ and PCS both have them as 20 riders confirmed for next year, and 14 riders out of contract with no future plans public.

Regarding late announcements, what I find interesting that EF have signed 9 new riders but only 2 of their 2023 riders have already announced that they would either sign with another team (Cort) or retire (Keukeleire).

They have 11 riders remaining for 4 spots (or 10 riders for 3 spots if the info about Sean Quinn having signed an extension is true). It means at least 7 more riders are set to leave but none of them are announcing new teams or retirements.

Daniel Benson also said Owain Doull signed an extension so 9 riders for 2 spots.

Staying: Doull, Quinn

Probably: Shaw (should be pencilled in as well, unless he is heading to another team and has not been rumoured)

Out:
Van den Berg (has confirmed to have a new team, yet to make the announcement. He was excited about the change)
Amador (no team for now - a very long shot could be his return to Burgos, a team he rode for in his early days)
Eiking (no team for now - a return to Wanty? Uno-X?)
Kudus (no team for now)
Wisniowski (no news about him)

So we have Camargo, Caicedo and Scully left. I would say the spot goes to Caicedo which is well established within the team.

I'm surprised that J. Van den Berg is leaving. I kinda expected him to stay because EF's 2024 team is very climbing heavy and they have few riders who truly specialise in flatter races.

If your analysis is right, they would only have Bettiol, Bissegger, Honore, Powless, Rootkin-Gray, Rutsch, Shaw, Sweeny, Valgren, M. Van den Berg and Doull as riders that wouldn't feel out of place in a cobbled race, for example. But a lot of these are more hilly classics specialists that can race cobbles rather than cobbled classics specialists. When you think about Paris-Roubaix, for example: Bettiol and Valgren tended to stay away from it in the past, also Powless, Honore and Shaw seem more like riders that could use a few hills in the race rather than purely flat cobbles and Rootkin-Gray has raced and performed well in a lot of flat races in u-23 but even he said that he wanted to try if he can improve as a climber! Add one or two injuries among other riders I've mentioned (hopefully not) and their Paris-Roubaix team will have no other choice but to be pretty experimental. I don't quite understand why some WT teams don't create more versatile rosters. The season is long and you will inevitably need to race in various types of terrain and if you give up one or two out of 20 or so specialists in your prefered terrain, hiring one or two guys of similar class for your weaker terrain will strengthen you much more in your weaker terrain than weaken you in your preferred terrain. I'm also looking at you, Alpecin. Even Movistar has already invested in some decent sprinters and rouleurs.

An underwhelming team - I understand it is tough to get climber types with most under contract which is desperately needed, but they are short in this part of the team with only a fading Garcia, a developing Wylie, and an inconsistent Zigart - They have some talent for the sprints if there is no Kool or Wiebes, they have one or two options in the flatter classics, but they are limited in the Ardennes - I'll also add that except for two or three, they are hopeless descenders which affects hilly type races - The three things they must do is place their best riders in the best races, overall, run a weaker calendar to suit the capabilities of their riders and hope the development team can find one or two gems.
