Huge French lantern jaw just cruised to an easy 50m freestyle win.
So nice to have such conclusive evidence of the dark art.

what strikes me more about this foto is the tree-trunk neck (feel free to coin a different term), i.e. when there is no difference in width between neck and jawline, or sometimes the neck is even wider than the jaws. I've always found that suspect, and a lot of swimmers have it.

isn't the point here that it seems a statistically higher percentage of winners in swimming this year appear to have features typical of having used HgH at some point in their life, than of previous years winners AND finalists.

isn't the next point curious that world records, only recently thought to have been unbreakable, have been beaten. in some events by more than 1 person in a race?

we know the chinese have a proven history of state sponsored doping of swimmers

their girl winner demonstrates remarkable swimming times, unbelievable even!

Thing is noone's looking at the statistics, just posting random pictures. Everyone produces growth hormone, so it seems to me that the characteristics (those useful to performance and those visible in the face) caused by an excess of it are going to show up to different degrees in people, without artificial stimulation. Like your hemocrit, if you naturally have a high value, you'll have the same advantages as the athlete who uses EPO, unless they're e.g. Riis with his reputed supercharging. The signature facial features would have to be really, really common and pronounced to make it clear that HGH was in widespread use just by lookiing.

Well thats the point of the thread - someone remarked that a lot of the women swimmers all seemed to have a lantern jaw. And they do !

Look at the 3 swimmers of the USA Individual Medley team - theres only Coni who has a near normal jaw.

correlation=/=causation, because juveniles/adolscents, with genetic predisposed to producting higher hormone levels, may well have a greater talent for sports that require the gifts, hormones like testosterone avail(s)

This has always been my basline, you need to be aware of the endogenous bonestructure, of an athlete. Without reading pituitary tests and a bone X-Ray on skull or fingers/feet, this is nigh impossible.

Then there is a natural atrophy of intrafascial red and white tissue, creating sunken cheeks, especially in endurance sports like road cycling. 20 thousand miles a year as a pro cyclist are very catabolic.

But, there should be, a general positive correlation between carrying size/muscle/weight and having intrafacial tissue. positive correlation means the bone structure is hidden behind tissue.

But there has been an inverse relationship recently, and this exposes the bone structure, and can give a visual illusion when the bones become apparent.

As has been stated by a few people in this thread, the issue is that judging is being based on photos and photos alone. No further proof or evidence needed apparently. Not even so much as a quick look at some family pics to see if the chin comes from Mum or Dad (as is clearly the case with Federer). Perhaps if photos were being posted with comparison photos of the athlete at a younger age or even some sort of supporting facts and back up argument it would be less humourous. According to the logic of this thread, half the people I saw at the supermarket this morning are potential dopers because of how their chin looks.

Of course the likelihood is that at least some of the athletes posted in this thread are dopers, statistics tell us that. But to use one single photo as some kind of definitive proof is nothing short of laughable.

You seem to want this thread to be taken seriously, so try to make it less of a joke and use some facts....the very best threads in The Clinic do.

I didn't see where anyone spoke of the girl like she was ugly or anything. There was definitely a question as to whether PEDs made the speech thicker. No need to chastise everyone for their opinion of the "cute" factor!

If you post a facial change of an adult between several years (Pantani comes to mind), sure it's valid, but this thread is just bad.
