Definitely the most dominating (physically and mentally) and impressive Spring season I’ve ever seen.

But just to be slightly annoying, his palmares this Spring don’t (yet) top Cancellara’s from 2013:
3rd San Remo
1st E3
1st RvV
1st Roubaix

But I know MVDP could have easily podiumed MSR except he rode for a teammate instead, which is even more impressive. And of course there’s still more to come,
Sean Kelly's 1986 Spring:
1st MSR
1st PR
2nd RvV
1st PN (GC)
1st TOBC (GC)

I just came by to drop again for those who remember,. 3 weeks ago after my training ride with MVDP and we talked i came on here to say he would win flander by 50km attack and by a huge margin check my post 3-4 weeks ago if you want..

Anyway for those interested i can again say something else after talking to him again. Attack 100-80km to finish in robauix and if he dont crash noone will contest. He is in his Wc form. Do with that as you want. Have fun kids.
Just leave this too here ,in the right thread.

What a ride Mathieu. This was one for the history books, the way you did it is beyond remarkable.

Proud to know you.

Go easy on fredde tomorrow.

nice time to be a MvdP fan... what a monster:D
Yep, and it wasn't easy there for a while - waking up in the middle of the night only to watch him try roll a 6ft ledge or pull out after a few KM's at the road WC's. Awesome to see an athlete with once in a lifetime talent battle through adversity to realize his full potential. Whoever is responsible for helping him figure out the back thing deserves a big thanks from the cycling world. Funny thing is if you told someone back in 2019 where he would be today in terms of major wins they would have said that sounds about right - but it wasn't looking so great there for a while.

MvdP has now won 4 monuments out of the last 8. Has anyone ever been that dominant in monuments?

Sean Kelly
won 6 monuments out of 13 in 1983-1986. He almost won four in a row:
  • 1985 GdL: 1st
  • 1986 MS: 1st
  • 1986 RvV: 2nd
  • 1986 PR: 1st

Roger De Vlaeminck won 6 out of 15 in 1974-1977. He too almost won four in a row:
  • 1976 GdL: 1st
  • 1977 MS: 2nd
  • 1977 RvV: 1st
  • 1977 PR: 1st

Eddy Merckx won 12 out of 24 in 1969-1973. He too almost won four in a row:
  • 1969 MS: 1st
  • 1969 RvV: 1st
  • 1969 PR: 2nd
  • 1969 LBL: 1st

Rik van Looy won 4 out of 6:
  • 1961 PR
  • 1961 LBL
  • 1962 RvV
  • 1962 PR

Fausto Coppi won six in a row if you only count the ones where he participated. Otherwise his best streak is also 6 out of 13.
