No, that's not what you've been saying, or at least implying. You assume he is no longer suffering the consequences from his injuries. And the post you quoted says "his result in EGC does not warrant saying Bernal is back", which is basically what you have been claiming. I have never said he in his best form would be able to win the TDF again against current rivals. So that is not what this is about.
So a question, what will you do when, in the TDF, Bernal gets dropped by Gaudu, Pidcock, Almeida, Hart, Vlasov... will you try to tell us he is back to his old form but these guys have simply improved beyond his former level?
The post you mention says nothing about his injuries hampering him or not. Nor have I said "Bernal is back", if my words were read carefully. I'm saying his injuries now seem to not be a hindrance to him reaching his former level. The problem for him is that "Bernal is back", still won't be good enough with the current bar set.

The post i mentioned clearly was paraphrasing and "Bernal being back" was simply a reference to him not being held back by his injuries as you have been claiming, as it was a direct response to the discussion we were having.

As i already said in previous posts, this is not what i have been claiming or even been talking about.

I don't know what you've been claiming, other than I'm wrong, which, of course, I disagree with..

Why can't we just enjoy his presence in the peloton again, and his improvement race on race. The lad just needs time, and trying to suggest he's gonna be up there with the big boys come July, may be a bit premature. Who knows, come May/June time, his form could have sky rocketed, then we can maybe think he will do rather well in the Tour, if he goes.

i'm saying him finishing 2nd on a hill in a prep race proves diddly squat.
You can't say it means diddly squat after what he is coming back from. After all Bernal himself said he was just happy to be alive.

Plus, the fact there is discussion here after that encouraging result suggests it means a little more than diddly squat even if only an early season cat 2.1 race. I am interested to see where he progresses from here, there are plenty more tests before the TDF?

It's about resistance and then top-end performance. So come what may.

OMFG. Context.

Also, remember before his big crash he had problems with his lower back (cited for him dropping out of 2020 TdF) and it was subsequently revealed one leg was shorter causing problems late in grand tours. Do we know any more on that?
You only have to look at his position on the bike when he was breaking through to guess it was too extreme to sustain. The fact that all of the other injuries have recreated his posture through rehab should put that issue in perspective. The fractures of lower vertebrae and a femur tend to take precedence as they reset his whole damn body. It'd be interesting to know the dimensional differences in saddle to brake hoods and saddle height from then to now.

Besides Pog, Vingegaard and Roglic... he is as much as an outsider as anyone else for the win in a GT.

I rate his chances just the same as anyone else outside of the top 3, above, at this date.
I’m as excited as anyone to see Bernal on the upswing, but I’d rate his chances well below Remco, the Yates’, TGH, and Jai Hindley, all of whom (except Adam) have won a GT in their own right. I’d love to be wrong, but I agree there isn’t (yet) and indication he is back to his best or able to ever get there or that that would put him up there with the top 3.

You are overrating the others, if thats the case.

Whats yours?
  • Bernal has won nothing and produced no big numbers since his crash, so while I think he was better than some of these before his crash, he hasn’t yet proven that he is likely to be better than after the crash. And he’s had some time to do so at this point.
  • Remco won the Vuelta in 2022 and has repeatedly demonstrated that he is better than before his crash, is significantly better at ITTs than Bernal, has produced higher climbing numbers than Bernal (though hasn’t demonstrated that he is better at long high altitude multi-mountain days).
  • Adam Yates has produced multiple climbing performances superior to Bernal’s best over the last few years and rode to third while riding in support of Pogi.
  • Jai Hindley has won the Giro with a big climbing performance after Bernal last had a decent result and he’s had no major setbacks that would indicate he’s fallen off. He looked to be top 3 best climber before crashing in the Tour.
  • TGH is a bit unknown due to his crash, so I can be persuaded on this one, but while he hasn’t demonstrated he’s back, he at least hasn’t demonstrated that he’s worse than before, unlike Bernal.

Nope.
