Funny thing is that Daniel Martinez is the same age and was placed 2 positions down the GC and is not being hyped nearly as much.
Pointed this out also in the Trentino thread. Future is bright for the Escarabajos. Although Dani already had his part of the hype during the Tour of Utah last year! Looking forward to his Giro performance, though I think it's still too soon for him to be riding a GT.

Maybe it all has something to do with Bernal just getting on the road this year, its not always MTB and Cyclocross translates to the road, at least not early on. Ammiti also going with the hype:

Stage 4. Forcella di Brez (5.80 km, 10.43 %, 605 m)
Egan Bernal: 21:34, 16.14 Kph, VAM 1683 m/h, 329 W (power meter)

What a talent!

Well, this is the Bernal thread.

And Martinez already had some hype last year + he hasnt been nearly as impressive as Bernal this year. Even though they are almost the same in gc Bernal has been on the front of the race a lot, attacking and following the best on occasions. Martinez has been dropped on every stage but has ridden a consistent race

There are indeed some big differences between Bernal and Martinez but they both are great talents, Martinez started racing at a late age but he still is 1 racing year older (I like to look at the year they were born instead of how old they are as that says something about the time they spend in a higher level peloton). Bernal on the other hand just started proper road racing this year which make his results absolutely insane.
Besides that Bernal actually showed himself at the front and was making the race (at least in stage 2 + 3) and he was doing the same thing in the other races he rode this year, Martinez has been hanging on (which is fine for his age).

Talked with Egan today and he told me they will see during the stage how it goes and decide whether he or Pellizotti will be leading. He seems like a really nice guy.

Yeah he is really friendly! Pellizotti hasnt shown anything all year would be very surprised if he all of a sudden pulls can aim for the podium today. It could also be that Bernal was just being modest.
