Please win Avenir. Would be awesome winning at 19 years old, had this ever been done? Monster talent.

Nope, it hasn't. The best performence of a first year came from Robert Power in 2014. He came 2nd.

Confirmed as leader for l'Avenir per FCC. Which means he's scheduling will look like this:
06/07 - 10/07: Sibiu Tour
27/07 - 07/08: Volta a Portugal
20/08 - 27/08: Tour de l'Avenir

The most insane triple in cycling
Can he do it?

Nah I'm afraid he'll be dropped like a stone by the portuguese August motorbikes :D

So Sibiu is coming up and jugding from the startlist I think Bernal is the favourite for the GC + the queenstage. The queenstage is very long though (231 km) so that might be a bit of a disadvantage for Bernal.

Still crazy to think that a first year U23 is going into a pro race as a(/the) favourite (especially as it is his first real year on the road).

I had a quick chat with him in Sibiu, he didn't mention Portugal, he will go back to Colombia before l'Avenir

So after today we can surely say his WT debut is a succes! Finishing 13th on a big MTF at his age and with so little experience is pretty insane! Vamos Egan!

Well, today is the first time I actually saw him in a race (on TV), and I jumped out of my chair when I realized it was him attacking on the final climb :)

You missed Sundays race

He was great today, formidable performance. Here is a kid who just turned 20 two months ago, finishing 13th in his first ever World Tour race, just one minute behind the best climber in the world. Unfortunate this his attempt to an attack got shut down immediately by Yates.

With the Giro out of question, Bernal's main goal this year will be the l'Avenir. I expect him to make some noice Coppi e Bartali and Trentino along the way, too.

He might do the tour of the Alps instead of Trentino :D

I refuse to call it Tour of the Alps.

This, Giro dell' Euregio or Euregio Giro is fine, but the new name is just a desaster, even from a marketing perspective.
Back to Bernal, he was impessive, one hell of a climber.

- 11th in the stage
- 15th in the overall classification
- 1st white jersey classification

Another phenomenal ride. Jungels is only 16 seconds back for the white jersey, so he's got that in the bag, but a top 20 ranking is amongst the possibilities. Great World Tour debut!

If it wasnt for the TTT Bernal would now be at 10th overall in the GC (ahead of Scarponi, Caruso, Moreno, Pozzovivo and Castroviejo), ofc the TTT is also part of cycling but it just shows how good his individual performance is!

Really hope he is doing Coppi e Bartali next and gets his first pro win there.

Hope he doesn't shed bucket loads of time in the ITT.

I thought he was tall but is listed as only 174 CM. Is that right?
