Too funny - if he were contending, this criticism would take the form of "he won't let his stronger teammates go for GC." Or if he quit competing, it would take the form of "What a loser - he couldn't win, so he quit." Today he finished ahead of most of team Astana. Maybe Albert is being too hard on his guys.

...or it could be that Team Astana are actually competing while Armstrong is coasting, day dreaming of being at home with his kids, not that there's anything wrong with that, just watch out for road obstacles and stay upright.
Dude may have an inner ear infection considering how often he keeps hitting the pavement.

Classic!! The OGGC should be a regular in the list of race categories. A dull gray itchy wool jersey would be appropriate.

I am thinking a loose fitting motobecane cheap-retro polyester.

lance buying the tour de france / partners, investors

Can someone provide a link to the business venture into buying the tour de france that lance was trying to set up. Who the business partners were ?

i am also very curious to what they were buying, et al.

"People have been trying to put together a deal here for a long time. Lance has got to be in the middle of any of that or else it doesn't work. He is such a magnet," says Thomas Weisel, an investment banker who helped Mr. Armstrong round up potential investors. Mr. Weisel owned Mr. Armstrong's first professional cycling team as well as the team that Mr. Armstrong competed on when he won seven Tours de France."

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123811112300753043.html

this could buy a lot of backdata

"Afterward, Mr. Armstrong rounded up a number of wealthy cycling enthusiasts willing to help fund a potential acquisition of the Tour de France, say Messrs. Stapleton and Weisel. It would have cost about $1.5 billion at the time to buy the Tour, people familiar with the matter say."

what is a couple billion between friends, eh ?

Lance asking for a "GIFT"

This has got to be reverse psychology.

What a joke. Lance actually thinks about this stuff??? This must be the best card in his hand now.

"Back in our heyday, we didn’t give anything away, so I don’t want anybody to say 'Hey, let's let the old man have one,' That's not what this event is about. It's a hard sporting event and the strongest are supposed to win, on a daily basis and on a three-week basis."

"I've got 25 of them, I don't need someone handing me one. I'll do my best but as everyone knows, we're running out of chances."

The business partners were bankers/private equity firms/owners who LA has a relationship with. The story is about 98% beat-up however. I think I remember a quote from the matriarch of the French family which effectively controls ASO when quizzed about the story noted that no-one related to LA has ever spoken to them about buying the business, that they are growing well and have no interest in selling, and that it was worth way more than what was being quoted etc. etc.

Whilst that is the standard reply for anyone who's company is being discussed for a takeover, anyone who thinks a French old, old money family would even consider selling the Tour de France to an American, no matter how much money was thrown at them, frankly has no idea about the French psyche. The social embarrassment of selling a French institution to an American would outweigh any short term profit, the French have a very different take on money/social responsibility to that of Americans and the don't believe everything is for sale at the right price.

Just an accident.
I merged several threads with the main Armstrong thread and didnt notice that the first one was in the clinic - had assumed that the other threads would be brought to this one rather than the other way around

sorry!

Grace is gone ?

How comes the official Fanboy-Thread is moved to the clinic? LA must have fallen fast and deep... or is there another "official" LA-Thread?

P.S.: Good luck, all the best to Novitzky. I waited for this things to happen since 1999-Passage du Gois & Sestriere.

No, you're wrong, I'm fine and not in any way feeling the need to compare myself to a bug drunny. I'll be doing my thing(non comparative at 7:15p.m.)
