I didn't watch the race, I have zero information, he hasn't updated his Twitter in 4 days (since before AGR).

What's going on? Moreno was Italy's biggest hope for classics in years to come. I'm losing my faith :(

He'll be back sooner or later. A classy rider like him won't vanish like that. Something is wrong obviously, this isn't his level.

I'm on red alert already after AGR. Something's definitely wrong.

A couple of things bounced in my mind:

1- He's a fluke "Lovkvist-style". Well I really hope he's not (I don't believe he is but you never know).

2- He contracted something like mononucleosis, you know those latent viruses. That would really be a big big problem because he could end up wasting a couple of years...

There's still Ulissi; he's only 23. I may be in the minority, but I think his future is as bright as Moser's. While we're on the subject of young Italian talents, I wouldn't mind seeing Felline move to a bigger squad at some point. That kid has loads of potential as well.

Both scenarios are frightening.

I like Diego as a rider, he's a big talent. I used to question his attitude in the past, but he's made some big step forwards this year. Definately a good bet for the Ardennes.
The thing that made Moreno special in my eyes was his potential. He reminded me of Michele Bartoli, that type of complete rider we haven't seen in a long time in Italy.

Felline is good and improving. I'd also like to see him compete in bigger races at time. Can't fully evaluate his potential at the moment.

Moser is just a 2nd year pro, you can't expect him to be up there in the classics already.

Sagan's results in 2011 (2nd year as a pro):

M-SR: 17th
G-W: 49th
RVV: DNF
P-R: 86th
AGR: 98th

...yet I don't think there was any reason to hit a panic button ;)

I know I know I'm getting a bit over dramatic here, anyway I think I'm a bit justified considering all the hype surrounding him or no? :p

In any case it wouldn't be the first time one of those scenarios happened so let's keep the fingers crossed!

he hasnt performed in any race whatsoever apart from strade bianche. No results. He was dropping from 60 riders in freaking coppi e bartali.

And I'm not he should have won fleche or amstel. But you can't tell me you were expecting a dnf and a second to last placement either. He's obviously in terrible shape or something is wrong. A rider of his class can't be so far from the best group, no matter how important or competitive a race is.

While it is true people are overreacting a little too much to Moser not performing in the classics, SafeBet is right, there should be some cause for concern. A rider that can win Strade Bianche should be able to do better than 10 minutes back in 143rd place at FW.

Do not take me wrong. I do not want to downgrade Moser. I like him very much. After Strade Bianche I thought it would be fun to watch both Cannondale riders playing their own game in the front of the peloton. I do not mind the common leadership, or changing the roles according the race profile. I thought Moser would ride the most of the classics, at least to get some experience. It looks like Cannondale has the different plans.

As it was said here. Something must be wrong here. We are almost in the middle of season and he keeps being invisible since Strade.
I just wish he has the Kwiatkowski form this spring. :). Peloton would be in PANIC mode for whole time.

Oh boy. :(

He gave me some hope at one point (I believe he was among the best on La Redoute), only to completely let me down 10 minutes later. He is just a mediocre rider at the moment. Nothing else to say.

Wasnt that Ratto at La Redoute?

And that is exactly my point. Sagan had a bit of a bad period in the classics in 2011 (just like Moser now), but still had an awesome season. So can Moser have.

I hope you right. Cannondale needs him a lot.

Isn't Moreno Moser that Italian rider who never performed above 200kms anyways? Winning Strade Bianchi is very overrated tbh(expect it gives you nice photos), this year he has to peak with the big boys and he just misses the endurance. Let's wait for a few years to know if he'll fail altogether.

Sagan did not have a bad period, he simply was not good enough to win classics yet.
