He seems like a very nice guy but not particularly popular compared to some other riders

Lots of pros congratulate each other when they win

Well I don't think I saw any congratulations for Kwiatkowski other than from his own teammates.

I notice after today's win Poels was congratulated on Twitter by the SEG Racing team, Thomas Dekker, Laurens ten Dam, and Lieuwe Westra. Is the Dutch peloton particularly close-knit/friendly with each other?

On the other hand he was also congratulated by Nicolas Roche, Geraint Thomas, Tosh van der Sande, Carlos Verona, Beñat Intxausti, Ian Boswell and Ben Swift, so is he just especially popular?

He used to room a lot with Westra back at Vacansoleil, and he goes training with Ten Dam sometimes in the hills in the south of the Netherlands as they live relatively close. Dont know about him and Dekker though.

Poels is congratulated by the SEG racing team, because Poels is managed by SEG Cycling.

SEG Cycling is the management agency of many cyclists including Dan Martin, Bauke Mollema and also Wout Poels among many others.
SEG Racing is a project they started last year as a development plan for young cyclists for the World Tour, it's also in cooperation with some WT squads.

He seems like a nice, smiling guy too.

He has a good shot at doing something on Mur de Huy.

What's that something? Can he win? Finish on the podium? I don't think so...

Seems to me he is getting overhyped a fair bit for Mur de Huy. Sky would be better off thinking about Kwito and especially Henao for that race, but what the hell do I know!

He is an impressive rider tho. He will probably be Froome's best mountain domestique in July, I still have my doubts about Thomas

Yeah I thought we let the days of hyping Poels for the Ardennes well behind us. Lets just let that one go.

Decent in AGR, great today, although boxed in on the foot of the climb which might have cost a lot of energy. Looking forward to sunday. Although if LBL is really that cold he might suffer because he is so thin

Well he is probably the best dutchman on this type of course with Dumoulin (if in top shape). Gesink, Kelderman, Mollema, Slagter are good for top 20 at best.

Who would you leave out from those six?

Hard to say, much depends on form. For now I'd say Dumoulin, Poels, Gesink and Kelderman. But in form Mollema is better on this course than Kelderman and Gesink. (since being top 6 in 3 ardennes classics in his career)

What's wrong with Mollema and Kelderman lately?

Mollema started strong, but had an illness or something so he's a bit behind in form now.

Kelderman is actually doing ok, not great, but ok. Pais Vasco top 10 was his best result in such a strong field in 2 years time. But he still has ways to go.

Boom!

I thought a tall, thin rider would struggle in those conditions but obviously not for Poels.

At first I was like:

''Froome there in the final 4 to prove the haters wrong  ''

Then I was like:

''Poels there in the final 4 to prove the haters wrong  ''

Now send him to the Giro to help Landa cause mayhem.

No way.I read he was with Froome and Thomas in the last Tenerife journey. He's Froome main man considering that Thomas is a protected rider this TDF.

I just watched the last 40km back and Poels was always very well positioned. Sky had good numbers there at the end with Swift in particular doing great work for him before the climbs in the final.
