I was watching the Atletico game tonight on Sky and the commentator at the start of the game brought up the difference in budget between them and the big two. What I found staggering was when he said that Atletico have a smaller wage bill than the likes of QPR and Fulham in England.

That just shows the extent of the great job Simeone has done.

That is incredible, I have massive respect for Simeone and the job he's done. His budget is really lower than Fulhams?!

Benfica are champions after a 2-0 victory against Olhanense, with still two games to go. I was in the staium and it was something I had never seen before. Very emotive. Massive celebrations going on in the streets of Lisbon right now.

Some photos of today.

So who do we think will get the United job?

I don't think they will get Klopp so Van Gaal maybe the favourite. Ferguson gets on well with him too.

The club will be under pressure to get results very quickly next year. Don't think they will be looking for a long term plan, so somebody with a proven track record at this level will be required. No promising "youngsters" are in play at this time imo.

Van Gaal, Hiddink etc.

Hiddink has the Holland job after the World Cup. Just see now Van Gaal is the bookies fav.

Fantastic counter attacking goal. All to play for.

Ridgewell just ruined the game by not tracking Demichelis. They'll see this through quite easily. We're probably in for a boring 2nd half.

I'm not so sure he's right man either but I do think it could happen. The World Cup will disrupt things massively and especially if they get to the latter stages of the tournament. For me, it would be better to get a man who can come right in with no distractions after the last game of the season. There's going to be so much upheavel more than any other year that full focus will need to be on the ins and outs on the playing side for the entire summer. Klopp would fit perfectly here. He would get a huge increase in salary and a lorry load of money to invest. Would that be able to convince him?

It's a big decision and as has been said, it doesn't look like a massive choice to pick from.

Hiddink would be the right man to fix the problem short term, but hes got too much quality to default on a current job.

What has Klopp done outside of Dortmund?

He got Mainz promoted and into Europe. I think both was their first in the history of the club. They then got relegated.

Christian, good news for you and Dortmund fans. Klopp rules himself out of the United job.

That was never really a possibility to begin with. He is the hot "sh*t" right now in European football, so everytime a manager position opens up at a big club, his name gets thrown in. It's the same with Barça at the moment. But he has his contract until 2018 and I think there is very little chance that he will not fulfill it.

After that I could well see him move on to bigger things. But I think he will have his pick of teams, and will not only decide for the money. I could see him much better in England though than in Spain, that is for sure. The interesting thing will be to see whether he will be able to use his motivational skills in another language

Didn't mourinho go ape **** a few months ago about some team playing defensive at Chelsea?

[rant]

Yes he did. The man is delusional. He should just shut up most of the times because he always ends up looking like a hypocrite. He's quite probably the manager who values defence the most, and overall his team is more muscle than brains. Comparing, Chelsea's style of playing reminds me of the end table teams playing against the top table ones. Park the bus, counter attack. And that has been proven to not always be effective. Hazard is the only above average tehnician they have.

Now he will lose the next two games and Roman will kick his **** out of the fancy neighbourhood forever.

I so much enjoy watching RM play now that he left.

Haha. I'm am by no mean a Chelsea fan, but this is a very strange view to hold. Mourinho have done brilliant with this Chelsea team, in a season with no top class striker and a team needing rebuilding. He will not be sacked.

Chelsea now have a very good shot at going to the CL final, which will be Mourinhos third. ( he won twice already) So no his tactic is not always effective, with that many games played, you will lose from time to time. But it is very, very often effective. His results will tell you that very clearly.

Of course he speaks bull**** to the press and if you take it all serious you can call him a hypocrite. But that goes for a lot of top managers, even if mourinho speaks a bigger amount of bull**** than most.

The Champions League isn't really that much down to him. The team he has inherited is miles better than any team he has encountered in the tournament so far. Schalke, Basel, Galatasaray, PSG, Atletico, these are all teams chelsea would have been expected to beat regardless who the manager. Home field for second leg every time too.

Honestly if Manchester United had that draw people would be talking about how succesful his opening season was.

He did, indeed. It was after my Hammers came away with a 0-0 after parking a substantial bus. He accused us of playing "19th century football".:D Everybody laughed at the delusional hypocrite.

Henk ten Cate and Ronald de Boer in the studio tonight cried shame about the football Mourinho (spit) has Chav$ki playing. All fans of the game will have been equally disgusted. Ten Cate made the controversial prediction that whoever wins this semi, will win the big one. His reasoning was that neither Atletico nor Chav$ki give anything away, and both have mastered the art of letting the opposition feel that they are dominant, and then clinically striking on the counter. Real and Bayern both prefer to attack, and may well wind up dying by counter - was ten Cate's reasoning. I don't agree, and sincerely hope he winds up being wrong.

Hitch - I read your last piece re: Bertie in the Clinic, and found myself in complete agreement.

I know Ten Cate isn't the biggest fan of Mourinho's football when he was a guest a few times on Sky for their Spanish football coverage. You should have heard ITV tonight where it was a love in with Clive Tydlesley and Andy Townsend in commentary. Tydlesley coming out saying he tactically outwitted another big team was laughable. Atletico are a very good side but like I said above, they have a smaller wage bill than QPR and Fulham. Now imagine that in comparison to Chelsea's finances. If you listened to some people in the media tonight, you would think it was the opposite where Chelsea were the ones punching above their weight in financial terms and were forced to go down this tactical route due to it. All Mourinho did tonight was have his midfield on top of his defence giving Atletico no space to play behind the lines. As a result, there was too much of a gap to Torres. There was no onus and inclination giving by Mourinho to impose their game on Atletico with the ball. I know Cahill played well, but it must be a dream for a defender to play in this system, knowing too well the players in front of you don't wander too much and won't expose the defence as a result.

It was a stinker of a game and couldn't wait for it to end. You see Azpilicueta in the last few minutes taking an eternity to take a throw in. That was the message and mentality instilled.
