Thank God that's over. Now football coverage can return to normal until a month before the next meeting between the two.

So, did you watch? I'm sure that the build-up to, and coverage of, this game in Spain is pretty ott. We had 30 minutes in the studio before the game and another 15 minutes afterwards with the studio 'experts' Bert van Marwijk (current Dutch national manager) and Marco van Basten - that was it.

But, we're all very impressed by the unbelievable number of cameras that Spanish tv uses for a game like this! Replays of fouls from every angle. Ramos should have been sent off for that mad lunge.

Amster it's a wonder you can spell drunk. If not, it's a wonder you're not drunk.
Real Madrid Barcelona, what's that. It wasn't even the biggest game of the weekend.;) The biggest match is today

SAFF finals
India vs Afghanistan

Of course, we all enjoyed a few beers during the game, but not nearly enough to get me drunk.;)

You're either up very late, or very early!

I'm up early for the cricket, that's why I didn't watch the match yesterday. It's not very early now, 7am but I have been awake for a couple of hours.

Very happy that Inter got the win over Fiorentina today and Pazzini breaking his drought. They have a game mid-week away to Genoa as the game was postponed when flooding in the area forced the change of schedule. A win there, and Inter move up the table more.

No, I went out instead. I have no interest in the Clásico, and all that will happen is I will find myself changing allegiances every time a player or coach appears on screen as I realise I can't decide who I want to lose more.

After previous season I had no doubt Maurinho thought out how to beat Barcelona. Based on yesterday's game, it's still not the case. Real surprised with nothing, counting on crazy pressure, whereas the players are prepared to run in such tempo only for about 40 minutes. But the match was spectacular, regardless Barcelona's lapping up and absence of intrigue, anyway it's the classest possible game in terms of concentration of skills from both teams in world football.
I'm fan of Arsenal, always catch myself thinking that Barcelona combine twice as fast as Arsenal do. :)

That's really sad that you let your prejudices deny you the pleasure of watching the two best teams in world football. The hundreds of millions watching all around the world aren't all Barca or Real fans, they are football fans who want to see the best players in the world on the pitch at the same time. Last night's game was certainly not one of the best that we've seen in recent years between these two sides, though it had its moments, especially in the second half after the 2-1, when Real had no more ideas except to start kicking again. Ramos should have been sent off, so should Coentrao (sp?).

Ronaldo's total 'non-performance' last night will ensure that the Golden Ball once again, and deservedly, will go to Messi, who showed flashes of what he's capable of. Xavi by and large was disappointing. My man of the match, based only on his play in the second half, was Iniesta. Anonymous one half, phenomenal the other half.

Maybe I don't care about watching the best players in the world? I don't like many of their players, and I resent having the game shoved down my throat like they're the only two clubs in the world that matter. It's like we say about the Tour vs. the Giro, watching the best players ≠ watching the best match.

I don't enjoy watching either team, in fact quite often I find them very boring. I can't get emotionally invested in a game where I really don't care who wins. And the more people put into this game, the more it turns Spanish football into a joke like Scottish football, where only two teams ever can and ever do win.

After a fantastic European Tour ending Dubai World Championships which saw Donald make history and Quiros win the title, the time has come for the climax of the SAFF championships. The two teams, India and Afghanistan, are the only two teams of the tournament to have domestic coaches. Afghan fans are about the same in number as their Indian counterparts:confused:

Chettri, India's best player (who was signed by MLS team Kansas city wizards) and Arezou, of Afghanistan, have both equalled Indian legend I.M.Vijayan's record of 6 goals in the SAFF championships.

Strong start by Afghanistan, launching a couple of attacks down the right flank in the opening two minutes.

Yes, one's playing today. Jeje. None got signed though, hardly unexpected. Work permit issues, lack of stamina and lacking physical attributes. Tactically a bit off as well.

See, now that's what I don't understand about you. The way I see it, and the way almost all of my football loving friends see it (none of whom are true Barca or Real fans,) it is a treat to be able to watch the two best club teams and a whole bunch of the world's best players on one pitch at the same time. Why? Simply because we love the game. To me, it's a no brainer that if you love a particular sport, you're happy to watch the best at that sport no matter where they come from.

I understand what you're saying about the hegemony of two teams, like in Scotland, and agree that it would be better for football in general if more teams were involved in the race for the title. But, as the Americans like to say, 'it is what it is', and I will therefore continue to watch the Clasicos as well as other top Spanish (and other) games simply because I love to watch good football! Remember that I am a West Ham supporter (since 1968) so I know all about misery, frustration and disappointment.

More Dinamo Zagreb:D
Seriously, European football viewers would wince at the lack of comparative quality. Shows what football is like without depth of talent and money.

The Afghan goalkeeper Hameedullah Yousufzari is a Kabul bank employee.

India's adventurous left back Syed Nabi cut open (wounds, not positioning wise).

Goodness me, close. Arazou misses a great chance, one on one with Karanjit Singh and a good save.

India could be big business, well that is the only reason rangers were looking at these two(no offence to india :S), so I think it is possible to see more indians coming to europe with teams hoping to make money from india... It worked the japanese and koreans...

How many F1 fans turned off in frustration during the Michael Schumacher domination era? I know I did. Domination is boring. I don't care if these guys play really nice football, we don't need a month's buildup to something that happens at least twice a year, and we don't need it being treated as if no other match in the world is important. And if we treat it like it's the only important game it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, especially as the league turns more and more into a two-horse race.

You could argue that we were watching the best in the World Cup final, and that was boring as sin. In fact, the last entertaining World Cup final probably took place before I was born. But when it only happens once every four years, it's a big occasion. This happens twice a year, and I'm bored of it being given the same sense of occasion.

On the occasions when I actually watch these two teams playing, I almost invariably root against them. I'm fed up of them, bored of them being stuffed down my throat. And to be honest, often when I do watch them, I end up switching off before full time because it's boring. The best Barcelona games this season have been the one on the waterlogged pitch at Bilbao with the last minute equaliser, and them losing to Gijón and going ballistic hitting the woodwork in injury time. A close match between poor teams is always better than a walkover for a brilliant team, and it's always been better when they're out of their comfort zone that they've been entertaining.

El Clásico... It's hardly River Plate vs. Boca Juniors, is it?

None taken. Bayern do the same thing, they have even sent U-19 team to play the IFA shield (and won it:eek:). They've also taken one or two players on trials, nothing really materialises though and I've not really got much faith in Indians on trial at European clubs myself.

The SPL is also broadcast here, so there's another reason to cash in.

Zam, nice and where. The only Indian player I've met is Syed Nabi.
I forget, I met Subrata Paul as well, he plays for my club.

0-0 HT. Sunil Chettri has been double teamed without being man marked in the first half. No real flow in India's attacks though India have had more possession in the second half of the first half.

Damn Zam, nice friends.

Penalty for India, red card Afghanistan-Hameedullah Yousufzari. Goalkeeper's gone mental, the Afghanss are in serious protest. Seems the wrong man got a red.

Celtic, Rangers and Hearts matches.

Chettri scores the penalty, gets his record 7th goal of the SAFF championships and his 36th for India.

Gooall, Clifford Miranda. India lead 2-0.

Goal, Je Je scores. 3-0, Afghanistan struggling after the red card.

4-0 Sushil Kumar. India are the South Asian champions again.:D
