Okay, I'm going to look like a fool now, but I have to ask:

To the bolded, in blue:
When you say you "have" to ask, does that mean that someone else is making you ask? Or are you suggesting some long-term, negative effects if you don't receive an answer? I'm just trying to understand your question.

To the part in red:
Why didn't you just insert a profane remark yourself? Are you trying to bait one of us into inserting a profanity so that we will get banned?

I was simply querying her post. She could've asked it in a straightforward manner, but instead she chose a more convoluted road with the phrase, "insert profanity of your own choice." I'm just wondering why she did that and what her intentions were.

Once something is posted, I have every right to question the manner and tone in which it is presented to this forum.

If you have a problem with that, take it up with the mods. If they don't respond, then I suggest taking it up with Dan Benson.

I feel a need to join the discussion.
Are you implying that RHD isn't posting independently when you're asking her if someone else is making her to ask? To be more precise, are you saying she's a sockpuppet?
Or are you saying that she has some sort of disorder when you're mentioning the long-term effects?

Are you trying to lead her into accusation that would lead to banning by asking about profane remark?
You have to be clear if you want precise answers.

My response wasn't directed at you, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't attempt to derail this conversation. If you wish to debate the issue of your involvement in the discussion further, then I suggest you take it to the Sidebar thread.

To the part in blue:
You might want to work on your grammar.
You probably meant to say "an" accusation, or accusations.

I'm also assuming you meant to say, "a" profane remark, or profane remarks. Which is it?

If you're going to get pedantic with me, you might want to sharpen your game.

If you post your comment on a public forum, then you can expect a response not just from the poster to whom you've answered, but from every member of the board.
That's the point of a public forum and discussions.

Your insisting on the grammar unveils that you're not interested in the content of a post. Also, it unveils your cultural intolerance, 'cause being a member for such a long time should have tought you that forum membership is culturally and linguistically quite diverse, and that you have to be prepared for lingual flaws in posts.

goddamnit... vortexing is tiring.

I'm not insisting on anything, but if you can't be bothered to post with clarity and a simple grasp of the English language (since CN is a English language-based forum) then don't be surprised if I call you out on it. Again, if you have a problem with it, take it up with the mods.

BTW, I believe the word you're looking for is "taught."
past and past participle of TEACH

Answer to the blue:
I was telling myself that I felt the need to ask the question even if the rest of you probably thought I was being really dumb.

Answer to the red:
I was gonna just write f***, but then I figured that it was sorta unimaginary. What if some of you would rather use a... say... Chinese... profanity?

Repeatedly (and I mean repeatedly) prompting a poster to go around and around on a topic associated with (often peripherally) a post that the vortexer wants to challenge. Hallmarks of the Maserati Vortex are (a) concrete reasoning; (b) a constant demand for links; and (c) an explicit insistence that Maserati, not the poster, knows the point that the poster is trying to make. Anyone entering the Vortex should know that 'agreeing to disagree' is not an option. You've been invited to vortex when your post has been deconstructed into discrete smaller quotes, each with it's own rebuttal.

A character like Maserati belongs here.

Who coined the term "vortex"? Is it a CN-Forum invention, or is it a generally accepted term in internet lingo? A quick search on urbandictionary.com yielded many results - but none fit the definition by which it is used on our forum.

Is vortexing proper to CN-Forum, or is it something that with time occurs on any forum? Being a 309 member of this forum I must say this term has only become relevant rather recently. In the early days I do not recall any mentioning of it, though the practice may have already existed, and people may also already have talked about it. But it was certainly nowhere near as popular a phrase as it is now.

I remember one user posted the "circle of life" of a forum a while ago, which I thought was really interesting. I do not have a lot of experience with internet forums, but I am inclined to believe that vortexing is a natural process in any forum. Can't wait 'til "the good vortex" hits veloshrooms, if it hasn't already :D ;)

First I heard it was on the Howard Stern show. The Benji Vortex. It is usually used as an insult

Stay on topic, Flicker.

That goes for everyone else as well. We don't need this thread spiraling down the vortex like so many others.

after a quick search, this seems to be the first mention of the term "vortex" on this forum.

I think it was BroDeal or MarkvW that popularized it and made it mainstream, although that is just a guess.

Im sure all forums of the internet have vortexes, but usually they are just dumb people trying to win arguments, or trolling.

In dr Mas case, I dont think he was doing it on purpose, its just the kind of person he is. And you have to give him credit for being right and knowing what he is talking about more often that not. He even insisted that he had no idea what vortexing was.

Why exactly? What pleasure or benefit would you get from a totally separate forum being "vortexed"?

Maybe you should grow up, worry about your own vortex and stop worrying about other peoples ;)

Did I just cause a bout of vortexing by asking what vortexing means?
Yikes!

Define what the word "cause" means in this context. Do you mean to imply that you invoulentarily set of a sequence of events that eventually led to this undefined end result "vortexing"? If so, then I must query you on that. If a post appears on an internet forum, an observer has every right to query that post however they see fit. If you have a problem with this, you should take it up with the future shareholders.

If on the other hand you intentionally* "caused a bout of vortexing" I am afraid you are nothing but a troll, in which case you are not worthy of querying what the term "vortex" means in the first place.

*in·ten·tion·al (ĭn-tĕn′shə-nəl)
adj.
1. Done deliberately; intended: an intentional slight.

I didn't mean to do anything. But the next time I ask a question I'll remember to point out that the answer shouldn't be done by example.
