Big difference between U23 climbing and elite. Just ask Mohoric.

Yes, but Gesink also did well in the U23 RVV, Matthews did well in the GC of the Tour de l'Avenir and Kittel used to be a cyclist in the U23 ranks.

Ewan has been consistently terrible in difficult stages at a pro level.

Yes, but Gesink also did well in the U23 RVV, Matthews did well in the GC of the Tour de l'Avenir and Kittel used to be a cyclist in the U23 ranks.

Ewan has been consistently terrible in difficult stages at a pro level.

There was that one stage at Tour de Pologne.

He was 4th in Firenze, which was quite a hard race, and 2nd in Ponferrada, also not the easiest of courses. Won Palio del Recioto in 2013 also, which is a race mainly for climbers and puncheurs.

It's quite strange considering his build and characteristics. You don't think he's able to survive those races.
