Oh damn I really forgot about Sagan. I get that he has not raced in Giro but still would have favored Ackermann to start Giro with so good form.

the Bora way... you get a sprinter who is in the reckoning for fastest guy of the year and then you send him only to the Vuelta. They are making a tradition of it. Ackermann will get a chance to experience the joy of Vuelta “flat” stages.

I had the impression that it was due to this new calender that Ackermann's schedule had changed. And without the Budapest start, there are only 4 easy sprint stages and 1 single other chance (stage 4, which could go to the break). With the Vuelta, he's able to ride BinckBank Tour (and some classics).
