Pogačar is a beast. He attacked in the most difficult part of the climb, and climbed alone for most of the time, without any help. What an amazing kid.
Yates was good, but he climbed behind others for a lot of time (unlike Pog), he didn't have enough power in the end to win it

Races without a summit finish, maybe. You can't win week-long stage races losing 45 seconds on a summit finish...

This is an unusually stacked field tho. Pogacar is the best climber atm.

To be honest Wout didn't do as well as I thought he might, but he expended a lot of energy yesterday, too.

WVA going to need to pick up bonus seconds tomorrow which is pretty much guaranteed. How many he needs and how many he gets is the question.

Shocking stage: Pogacar looked tired, Landa finished 4th and Wout is not a gc rider.

Van Aert small boy climber confirmed
He was annoyed when they said he weighed 80kg, in his worst winter (2 years ago) when he was visually "less fit" and said he was 78kg at that moment. I think it's safe to assume he is quite some kgs removed from 80, now, in form, during road season. Nobody's saying he weighs 65. The difference between 75 or 80 is immense. I read a report from Sunweb back in the day, when they were doing tests for Dumoulin (who won the Giro with 71kg), that per kg on a 30 minute climb, you save 20 seconds. That would mean the difference between 75 and 80 would make a difference of 1m40s on a 30 minute climb.

So if I lose 180kg I can still fulfil my lifelong dream of winning a mountain stage?

They only have one fully functioning train.

Tbf guys they don't have racing in either race ATM are Kuss, Harper, Vingegaard and Tolhoek who would all be good climbers. But don't think they really thought WVA can really win this as they'd have given him more help if so.
