I generally like the guy but Alaphilippe really was awful in the finale.

His slow pedal tactic didn't work for Stybar.
He didn't get on VDP's wheel, instead slotting in after Higuita, causing Ballerini to lose 3 places.
He doesn't help Ballerini in the sprint, instead he DROPS the wheel in front of him (Higuita's) forcing the guy he should have been leading out to have to close an extra gap, completely ending his chances.

He's the king of the hill!
I love it, and I'm not a fan. It must be awesome to have this shape and put them all to the sword, seemingly with ease. You're only king of the hill for a short time in life, so you better enjoy it, and MvdP seems totally aware of that.
He's been king of the hill for a long time now - the road peloton is just lucky he's never really done more than dabble in it over his career.

I think Alaphilippe was having a brainfart. Obviously he should have followed Mathieu... but in the final, he was already pulling at the front, so maybe today he was working for Ballerini? The only logical explanation was that Alaphilippe was already cooked at that moment.
Yeah the goal was Ballerini. At one point with about 350 to go I think, JA was trying to back off and let Ballerini go in MVDP’s wheel. For some reason the Italian then seemed to let JA stay in front anyway, even letting Higuita getting in front of him because of it.
Lack of communication/understanding between the both of them I reckon.

Apologies if it has been asked, but when was the last time a team won both PN and TA in the same season? I feel like it is dreadfully common or absolutely rare but not in between...

We used to have a no spoiler rule, and spoilers were moderated. With a stickied no-spoiler thread, you’d think there’s a clear signal that it is asocial behaviour to spoil other races.

There’s a tag in the new software people can and should use

I strongly disagree.

I’ll admit that Covid has made me more intolerant of asocial behaviour - I hope I will be more lax and tolerant in a year.

Probably, but he has said he wants to at least test his capabilities there at some point and having to leave UAE Tour early messed up those plans.
He re-iterated before stage 2 that he isn't going to push himself. Like even the sprints for stage 2 and 3 were only planned if the stage was controlled. If he had to push himself to hard on any climb the advice is to let go. They don't want to over exert himself here before the coming classics.

I can see why it would be annoying to have the result of one race "spoilered" - though I do find it weird to use the tern "spoilered" about something happening in real life - in the race thread for another race; I suppose there are some people who tend to concentrate on one race at a time. However, I think we should be careful not to be too strict about it: Me literally telling who won "the other race" - sorry about that. Someone making a vague comment about DQ messing up the sprint twice in a day - how much of a spoiler is that, really? And what about other non-race threads? Should we have to wait with posting in the "Most Top-10s Without a Win" or the "Last WT Team to get a Win" threads, because someone might not have watched the specific race that took a rather/team out of those competitions?

BTW, I always thought the non-spoiler thread was speficially the one place we're not allowed to post spoilers.

Yeah, all this just backs up my point that you do not enter the forum if you still have some catching up to do.

You can still enter the forum, just make sure to not enter threads where race results might be "spoilered".
And I can see why someone who has decided to watch T-A live, and then watch a replay of P-N later, might get a little annoyed if someone just reveals who won the stage in P-N in the T-A thread.

Okay, it's "spoiled" and you never know where something might be spoiled.

The only safe place is you-know-which thread.

But why should someone be told not to read this thread, because someone might reveal who won over in P-N? Not just vague posts like "Quickstep, again.", but like I did; with specifically mentioning the names of who'd won.
However, if Movistar was to win a stage in either race today - you know... could happen... and someone went into the "Last WT Team to get a Win" thread, and complained about the inevitable "Movistar out!" post that would cause, then I might be a little "Oh, jeez..."

It's obviously about race threads. Don't spoil other (current or very recent) races in a race thread that is dedicated to a specific race. Now, how long it takes before a race is no longer recent enough that it is fair game to comment on depends on the norm of how long it reasonably takes somebody to watch the race that he (m/f/+) doesn't want spoiled. I'd say 24 hours as a rule of thumb.

This.

If you really, really, really don't want to find out the result of a cycling race, stay away from the cycling forum until you have watched it. Seems bloody obvious.

Or are we really that addictive?

P.S. Conversation should be allowed to be quite free imo. So you may want to compare one recent race result with another (the strength of a team, style of racing, etc etc etc).

You can still do that. But if you are spoiling another race, use the spoiler tags.

Debating the race as it goes on, is part of what makes race threads exiting.

If you are watching the race later, you can probably also wait to discuss the race till later ;)

We're not talking about Discussing Race [X] in the Race [X] thread, but Discussing/revealing the result of Race [Y] in the Race [X] thread.

Ah, my bad, thought it was spoilers on the particular race the thread was dedicated to, which I have no problem with.

I guess that makes sense then, if people want to watch both races separately, instead of switching back and forth, I am all for keeping spoilers from other televised or streamed races out of the thread, at least for a few hours.

Common courtesy
