I fear the Arezzo stage is underrated by most people. It could create gaps especially in case of bad weather (as it's currently forecasted). I have no idea on how Major Tom will deal with the sterrato though.

I Think he can put 3 to 4 minutos to landa in the time trial and 2 min. to valverde and nibali, so i think he believes he can win the giro, but we will see in the moutains...

He has another problem that is the fact that valverde and nibali can attack far away in a stage and in the descents win time... If he is at the level of the vuelta, with so many time trials he can do it.

Yes, the Sestola stage after the restday could also be very hard, if Astana starts going berserk it could be a long, hard day for Dumoulin.

Dumoulin is clearly heavier than in the Vuelta, against better competition on bigger climbs, he has about as much chance to win as I have to become Miss Universe.

I may become Miss Universe after all

Or I'd be wrong

One of the two

Don't get your hopes up, chaps, even if Tom is in great form, his team is still bottom-of-the-market crap.

Yea, though at least it's slightly better than the vuelta where Big John was his last man

I don't know why I feel he looked heavier in Vuelta, he looks good for mountains. I felt his talk about just stage wins etc was mind games he was playing. He has planned for a win. Clearly Landa and Nibs are off track gor now although the 3rd week is really the week for mountain climbing.

This was a good climb for Tom. I still think he will drop out of contention on a serious MTS.

Yes, good enough to follow wheels I thought. Now he drops almost everyone on a false flat gradient.

He always look to me as very intelligent and aware on the road, almost too much for most of his GC rivals, always know when to be offensive and get the most out of the situation around him. When he's bad, it's all about form, leg, and his limit.

Nibali was cooked after the attack and most of the other riders were looking at eachother but still, that was a monster attack.
Finishing the top 5 on gc will be really hard, but he has a small chance.

Great race awareness and timing. I know he said he's not here for the GC but it's getting hard to believe. Anyway, this was always gonna be a super good stage for him so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Already posted in race thread but,

Dumo:

"Now I’m riding for the GC but we’ll see what happens. I honestly didn’t really think to go so well.”

Now I'm just getting the feeling Dumoulin just fooled everyone and knows perfectly well what he is doing. Looks even stronger than Vuelta last year. What the hell.

He was studying medicine before seriously picking up the bike, so hes indeed a man with above average intelligence. ;) I like that he always wants to animate the race when he has the legs, no holding back.

he didn't fool anyone c'mon, he will have the pink jersey until cividale with ease. but a multi-mountain stage raced hard, i doubt that he will survive.
for top 10 maybe

i would be happy to prove me wrong, by the way.

yeah you're right, it's probably a great poll to what secret has been kept worse. Jon Snow being resurrected or Tom Dumoulin going for the GC anyway.

Today he convinced me that he's definitely a GC contender. Maybe he didn't prepare that for this Giro specifically, but in the future. The Vuelta wasn't just a one time thing.

For someone who did not intend to ride for GC he is looking pretty good. I am thinking more like top five but at this stage of the race it's hard to gauge his intentions. After a bad stage might be a better indication. Obviously he will bury many of the GC riders in the TT.

All you needed to use was your common sense...

The biggest problem with the common sense is that most of the people are below average in intelligence (morons) :p

Had he really been training, his performances in the ardennes would have been good. But looks like if he doesnt train specifically for it, the race rhythm gets him into form. Maybe he is not for one day races but for GTs
