I do also know the BBC doesn't report on cyclists moving to other teams, but they feel Pidcock, quoted at 200/1 to be BBC sports personality of the year,was worthy of an article.

Tom Pidcock: Ineos Grenadiers team to split with GB rider

Great Britain's Tom Pidcock is to leave the Ineos Grendiers team at the end of the season despite having three years left on his five-year contract.

I wonder what the metrics are for Tom during his stay at INEOS: wins/success versus Salary? Losing Steve Cummings seems even more of a waste now.

The GC thing always seemed like Ineos trying to force the issue and him just saying what he thought people wanted to hear, his heart never seemed into it. Good for him for doing what he enjoys probably at the expense of some money (though I doubt he's struggling).

Thomas retiring, Froome Froome-ing, Yateses getting older, Tao AWOL, GC Pidock seemingly not happening. A changing of the guard, I think Blackmore and Brennan in the classics have an air of greatness about them though, Israel might get him on the Derek Gee program. Onley and Poole are progressing really well too.

I think that's exactly right. The races Q36.5 won't be invited to are the races Pidcock doesn't want to ride. If he wanted to be a Grand Tour rider, leaving a very nice contract on a World Tour team would be madness. But I suspect Q36.5 will be able to secure an invite to support the program Pidcock appears to want to race.

As more details come out, I will be interested to learn what is different in December 2024 than earlier this fall when the transfer fell apart. Did Pidcock take a haircut to get this done, where in October INEOS was being asked to pay some of his salary? I never understood the advantage to INEOS of paying any salary to get Pidcock of its roster. From INEOS's perspective, this delay was a nice piece of business - unless it tied up a roster spot that could have been used to bring in a top World Tour rider where now they have an open spot (and perhaps some budget) but few riders worth signing. Max Van Gils have would been an exception, but it appears that Van Gils was not receptive to INEOS's overtures.

I am excited to see what Pidcock does in 2025, being untethered from the INEOS disfunction.

Unfortunately I agree. I'm astonished that he couldn't have found a WT team that would give him free rein or whatever it is he wants.
