I was at the Tour in 2004 when he held Yellow for 9 days. Every day he would fight on and lose a few more seconds to Armstrong.

After most stages Lance would go on the post Tour program and do an interview in surprisingly good French. One day the producers asked him if he would answer some questions from a variety of fans that they had taped on the side of the road throughout the day.

They went through 2-3 fans.....when they got to the 4th Fan question it was Voeckler on the TV! He asked

"How many more days does Thomas Voeckler have in Yellow?"

The place went crazy. One of the funniest things I have seen at the Tour.

Armstrong speaks French pretty good, I don't know why that's surprising :p

Funny story though.

This thread is useless because everyone likes Voeckler since at least 2004. :D
Ok, not really. I mean not really useless.

Hoping for a new badger was bit optimistic then, but he has very good results anyway and still some years to go.
Don't really know if he ever tried, but he should try to focus on something bigger in his last years, race calmer and save energy on way to big goal - as hard as it is for him and us.
Explosiveness is fading away daily in those years anyway, so he should save some last for something big and even bigger bang.

Ok, sounds armchairishly and he might even have tried this, but thats where I see him and where I would like to see him.

Thinking about something like full focus on LBL or an edition of P-N that suits him, where he should start on topform and then race relatively calm till the big bang bang starts, after some prolog not longer than 6-7 km.
Winning LBL will be even harder but potential is there. Quebec might not be really comparable, but in some way he showed it there too.

I like him very much, because he always brings so much pain to the people :) and himself, but I would make some sacrifices to see him winning something even bigger.

But if you wear yellow yersey or win TdF stage, you are the king anywhere.
Some people stop training after this, but Voeckler always continued to hurt people very much.

Voeckler really is a class rider and fun to watch. The guy really seems to ride with heart.

I do have to admit it took me awhile to warm to him as that spell in yellow didn't really do it for me nor did the hype following it.

He was top 10 last year in LBL.

And since LBL is from the ASO his team probably got a wildcard, so who knows.

The first time I ever watched cycling coverage was the stage he took the jersey. :) I really didn't appreciate it at the time since I didn't understand the sport but I remember the crowds supporting him that week. I should go back and watch that Tour now that I know a bit more about cycling.

I was so happy when he won in Quebec last year. He made for great pictures and interviews that really helped the success of those Canadian races last year and will help them grow.

Hard to criticise Voeckler.

His spell in yellow introduced him to the masses and we're still talking about him now which is to his credit.

He's a rider understands better than any other what he is in the sport to do - make a living and guarantee publicity - and does it in the best way possible: by getting out there and trying to win things.

So many more talented riders could follow his path yet so few do - hats off to him for that.

Tommy "Crazy" Voeckler! that's how I like to call him... well, now He is timing his attacks really well but in the past I can't say the same... but one thing is sure... He always bring tons of pain to the peloton ;)

I thought he had a great ride yesterday at RvV. I was amazed to see him towards the front of the elite group on the Koppenberg! Allez Thomas!

He's the pro rider with the most wins this season right now...and almost all the wins are from breakaways. That's just incredible.

Tied with Contador and Gilbert though.

Thomas Voeckler recognition thread

...the man is a total animal. This rhinoceros is 5 seconds from being swept up by a 150 man group and he pulls away yet again like a gosh-darn mongoose. He needs to get his *** off of Bbox after this season. Watching him today made me jump up off my couch for the first time all tour. He must get so much French tail...
