In much the same way as Hitch talked of dreaming of a Crostis-Zoncolan double the way his forebears dreamed of an independent Poland, I attach the same romantic notion to a Tour de France route without the freaking Tourmalet.

HAHAHAHA

I think Paris-Roubaix has a more varied route than does the TdF sometimes. ;)

AX3 Domaines and Hautacam is pretty good for the Pyrenees, especially since we know they are going to have typical mountains with it being the 100th edition. It means the first mountains will be pretty selective which isn't always the case, and the race won't be so back ended. Good news I believe. Will there be a hilly ITT between then and Venteoux?

May as well start calling it "2115".

tourmalet is almost like pau. difficult to avoid. though, absence of tourmalet is even less likely than repeat crostis-zoncolan. :)

I don't want Hautacam, I hate this climb since 2000. I was expecting Ullrich and Pantani to dominate and ok, Armstrong won in 1999 but I always thought "Ok, Armstrong won in 1999 but without Ullrich and Pantani, so they will destroy him in 2000". And then he destroyed them in first mountain stage in 2000. It was painful and I really don't want this climb anymore in TdF. I have never watched again this stage from 2000...

Weren't there rumours about a Mountain ITT up Alpe'd huez?

Hautacam would be ok, but there are better climbs than Ax3 Domaines in the Pyrenees for the 100th Edition.

Im very afraid that if you substitute Pantani and Ullrich for Schleck and Contador, and Lance for you know who, i might be experiencing those very painful emotions 10 months down the line

I'm really hoping that's not the case.

It would make me sick too:mad:

I don't no why you all excpected something special.
They didn't have anything special apart of the start in paris and the historic stage towns for the 100th birthday. So i can't see why there should be something special for the 100th edition.

Prudhomme said this was going to be a climbers' Tour. No one expects anything but the usual borefest but WITH a couple decent / good high mountain stages. You know, the ones we didn't get to see this year.

It looks like the 2 Pyrenees stages will be soft as ****.

The first one could be the rumored Ax-3 Domaines stage. I'm not even sure if Pailheres is a part of that. It could just be the one MTF and not much else, except a long run in from the North. Who knows anymore.

The 2nd Pyrenees stage is more certain and will go from Saint-Girons to Bagneres-de-Bigorre, according to a local newspaper. The only cols mentioned in the article are Portet d'Aspet, Peyresourde and Aspin, apparently. Sigh.

Thomas from Velowire speculates that it will only be about 145 kms. It could be followed by a 600 km transfer. The Tourmalet haters can be happy, I suppose.

2012 double two? :D or it reminds 2008 edition more.. well, ax-3 without pailheres is like planche des belles filles while no one can guarantee that someone will be able to provide the show as sky did. by all appereances, the rest 2 stages will be mont ventoux and alpe d'huez and that's it. though, joux plane was rumored on the last alpine day too. though with 150k stages, this won't be a surprise, if aso limit themselves to alpe d'huez solely. one the other hand, the tour parcours never looked 'delicious' so theres nothing new

A mix between 2011 and 2012 would be my guess. More backloaded than this year for sure. The 5th mountain stage may not have been determined yet, but will be somewhere in the northern Alps. Possibly Joux Plane, but it could be anything, really. It better be hard, though...

Good to see ASO honor Riccardo Ricco, though, with the stage to Bagneres over the Peyresourde and Aspin. :)

Bonascre, Ventoux, Alpe d'Huez.

On one hand it's 3 MTFs. On the other hand Bonascre first, Ventoux is a 1 climb stage and can be influenced by the wind and Alpe d'Huez coming from somewhere around Gap, so they better fix the Sarenne.

I think Tourmalet only is more likely. Although it'd probably be too long for a Tour mountain stage.

The best stage will probably be the 2nd day in the Alps. Too much flat between Sarenne and and Bourg d'Oisans.

You are correct.

I think that Sarenne is the closest big climb to Alpe d'Huez though. Still, I can't imagine how they will do the rumored double climb.

Not sure where they're going with the Grand Bornand stage.

Galibier - Iseran - Roselend - Saisies - Aravis would be the most likely option, I suppose.
