It looks as if the Alpe stage may be the finale. So no Champs Elysees.

That would be weird. It jives with having the ITT on the Wednesday, but I don't like it.
It is not going to happen.
But still, this route looks better than this year - it is about to have 3 GC stages in Alpes instead of one and 2 GC stages in Pyrenees like this year. And from two ITT one might flat, another hilly.

Thank God this won't happen. Of all the things they can change in the Tour, finishing at Champs-Élysées cannot be touched. It's a ritual and the best location to present the winners, and allows the winner to enjoy some champagne on the road. It's part of what makes the TdF special.

They can make the double L'Alpe d'Huez climbs happen in the second last stage though.

Yep, and that would make it a Triple ADH. Can't happen at all.

Anyway some rumors are talking about a stage between Annemasse and Dole on Saturday 20. Which would take away one mountain stage. But these are rumors, there are no hotels reserved on that date around Dole, while there still are some in Annecy.

wrong finishing at Champs-Élysées only started from 1975, so that is far away from being a ritual. But I do agree that is a nice place to present winners.

I'm hoping for a TT like in 1989.

I know that. I said it's a ritual, I didn't say it's been around forever. Calling something ritual can be a way of emphasizing the "specialness" of something.

One more Tour of renewal. Apparently all mountains stage won't be difficult without considering final ascents.

Ironic, the most difficult one could be stage 9, with a descent and some flat after aspin/ancizan.

The stage from Lyon to Mont Ventoux doesn't look plausible. According to nowadays standarts it should be a 100k one... :)

Indeed would be up to 250km at least.
Can't see that one.

It says: Lyon(Givors) - Mont Ventoux.
The shortest way from Givors to Malaucène (west side ventoux) is 200km, the shortest way between Givors to Bédoin (south side ventoux) is 212km. So that means 220 to 233 km for the stage. If the official start is some km's outside the town centre of Givors, it's about 225km. Nothing special. Prud'homme will probably call it a 'heroic stage': 200km of flat nothingness and one "mythical" climb.

You don't know it yet. They can make some kind of loop. The tt's Saint-Etienne - Saint-Etienne in 1997 or Annécy-Annécy in 2009 weren't exactly 0km either.

If it starts in Givors as indicated it could be 215 km if they do the Malucene ascent or 230 if they do the Bedoin ascent.

Embrun->Col de Pontins->Col Lebraut-> Chorges would be an awesome route for a TT. But rather unlikely since it's ~68 km.

Ok before responding me bear in mind that I did not follow this thread until now. :D

What's supposed to be in this stage?

1 TTT and 3 ITT is most unlikely, besides there's no CLM next to that stage.

Just noticed the arrival on the Champs Élysées would be at night (nocturne) !
