Sky were the anti-tacticans in the past years. But what AST & Saxo did in the Giro and to some extend in this TdF tops that easily... Actually Sky now looks like masters in comparison.
What did Tinkoff do wrong in the Giro, tactically?

Chasing own riders, chasing breaks in flat stages, and finally have nobody for AC in the 3rd week. They were all kaputt from the first week mishmash...
Lol, no. They were just in poor shape. On the flat they were strong, uphill not, because Basso and Kreuziger were poor.

Sagan was the fastest although he was in the break...How can he not win a stage? How?

Lack of team mates to help him. He was perfectly placed with about 600m to go on Kristoff's wheel, but Degenkolb pushed him off it and was then able to get onto Greipel after the last corner.

It's pretty hard to defend positions all the time for 4km without any team to support you. He was the fastest finisher as usual, would probably have won if he had got on Greipel's wheel.

Greipel is just a class above the rest of the sprinters right now. Sagan has no luck.

Dangerous sprint by Sagan there (looked like him), nearly took out Coquard.
Apparently Coquard's chain fell off.

I don't think it is bad luck for Sagan or that Greipel is so much better.

The most important factor is that Greipel has by far the best lead out train, which has put him in the perfect position almost every time. Giant are missing Veelers who is key for them. Kristoff is now missing Paolini and half the team were brought to support Rodriguez rather than him anyway, and Sagan has absolutely no-one.

If Sagan scores more than Greipel in tomorrow's intermediate sprint the green jersey competition will be practically over, as the sprints in the Alpine stages all come after multiple cat 1 and cat 2 climbs.

Re: Re:

Was Cav saving energy or just dropped like a bad habit? I hope the Alps are going to finish him off with no chance the day after Alpe d'huez.

Sagan will probably go in the break to sweep up those points if needed before proceeding to ride backwards on one wheel and then hopping onto Prudomme's car for the cameras
